Sequels X-Men: First Class vs. X-Men Origins: Magneto

Today, we got a chance to talk to David Goyer, who's executive producing ABC's upcoming "Flash Forward" and whose The Unborn hits DVD and Blu-ray on July 7. Goyer has been attached to write and direct Magneto, but he's not sure if that will move forward before X-Men: First Class.

"There have been some preliminary discussions," he told us about Magneto, adding, "I think, at Fox, they're trying to decide if making a young X-Men film makes the most sense next, does making a 'Magneto' make the most sense next. They're just trying to decide internally who's next up."

If they want to do it in order Magneto would come first as it features a young Xavier. Then we would see Xavier start up his school, setting up First Class.

Somehow it feels like by ‘sense’ Fox means which movie makes more financial sense, which would be First Class. They already set-up the scene for it in Wolverine’s movie by including Xavier, Cyclops and the other young mutants.

As for Magneto's movie, honestly, with the audience Fox is aiming for, it’s just hard to imagine it might happen. Wolverine was made into a Superman wannabe in his movie. How in the world are Fox going to make a movie about one of the greatest SUPERVILLIAN?

Chances are that Magneto’s origins would be merged with the X-men’s in First Class. The opening credits of First Class movie would show both Xavier and Magneto through the years and ending with them going their separate ways.

Id say First Class, and cancel the Magneto one, it could be a great movie, but it will have a worse impact in the boxoffice.

And I want a team movie, so First Class all the way!!

between those two choice (an assumeing both are definitely goning to be made) as much as I am interested in seeing, first class, I kinda think, Magneto, being done first might make more sense, timeline wise...

I'm guessing First Class is going to win out between the two. Magneto wouldn't bring in the money as well as a team movie would.

Being a team movie i think First Class makes the most sense and has the most chance if you're looking at the box office potential.And if they want to keep the same young actors from Wolverine they'll need to start sooner rather later.

Magneto is much further along than First Class and Deadpool though. They have a writer/director, script plus they were already in the process of storyboarding/designing/budgeting and location scouting when things were halted back in 2007.

I was thinking of the something similar.
Elements of the Magneto script would be carried over to First Class. It would give an extra dimension to the movie and at least then the development work that was done for the movie wouldn't have been in vein.
