An interesting listing at Production Weekly caught our eye - "X-Men: First Class." Could 20th Century Fox be developing a movie based on the series written by Jeff Parker and pencilled by Roger Cruz? Or are they using the title of that comic for their proposed Young X-Men spin-off?

What makes it even more interesting is that X-MenFirstClass.com redirects to FoxMovies.com.

The "X-Men: First Class" was an eight-issue mini-series published from September of 2006 through April of 2007. As Special was also released in May of 2007 followed by a monthly series that started in 2007 with the same creative team. The comic is described as follows:

For millions of years, mankind's place on Earth was unchallenged – until five young people paved the way for a new kind of human. While students at the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Beast and Iceman taught the world what it meant to be X-Men. These are the hidden stories of the team that laid the foundation of a mutant dynasty!

We'll have to wait and see if official news on this hits.

please let this be a reboot!! and a good one...

This sounds interesting, an X-men film without wolverine should be good because even though i really liked the other X films they were to focused on the guy, at least with this it would be something fresh.
plus does this mean that it will be a brand new cast?

Why would Fox reboot a still active and lucrative franchise? At best, I imagine that it'll be set to pre-Wolverine/X-Men 1, possibly featuring the original team in their younger years as they trained to become Prof. Xavier's first X-Men.

That's what I'm hoping.

In fact, I've been saying for awhile that if they are to continue the franchise, this is the way to do it.

Wolverine will have his own series, with his spinoff franchise, so they can afford to make Wolverine-less X-Men team movies.

Of course, due to how the movies played out, you wouldn't really be able to include Iceman, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Angel, Colossus, or a few others, since their first appearances with the X-Men happen AFTER these movies in the timeline.

But a set of movies based around younger versions of Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, and Beast? That'd be awesome. Plus, there are still tons of other characters that can be added as well. Havok, Emma Frost, possibly Gambit depending on how X-Men Origins: Wolverineplays out. Sentinels can play out as an enemy (could explain why they have Sentinels in the Danger Room). Also, since they are all younger versions, it's all a good excuse to recast most of the major players. You can get away without Halle, Grammer wouldn't be used as Beast since he is in his human form, wouldn't need Famke for Jean. Wouldn't mind James as Cyclops again, but I could easily see why he might not be used.

Although, I would like to see Stewart come back as Xavier. And I'd even still like to see McKellen come back as Magneto.

IF this is the direction they are going to take, then I am all for this. I just don't want to see it be the young X-Men spinoff. But it probably will be.

Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Beast, and any other character (Banshee? Gambit?) and I'd have 10 million joygasms.

This news made my day.

Banshee would be great. They could even leave it off with him leaving his daughter there as a baby or something, sometime.

I think this would be best for the franchise but I'm not keen on Magneto being in the first movie (eventhough I know he would have to show up eventually). Maybe if they can depict his falling out w/ Xavier and introduce some new villians like the Hellfire Club or Bastion/Sentinels and build Magneto's rise to power slow in this possibly new trilogy of prequels. But I am for Banshee being the 5th member

This would be pretty brilliant to actually see happen.

Anyone else think that this is the film Josh Schwartz mentioned much earlier in the year?

I saw this coming a mile away. X Men origins:wolverine, X Men origins: Magneto, X Men Origins: First Class. It would also fit with a young cyclops in wolverine to fit the movies together

I am so excited. I've been speculating that a lot of these strange character choices in Wolverine may be there to set up the characters for a future film, such as a young X-Men film. So, with that said, I'm kind of anticipating a good guy team of Cyclops (who is actually Cyclops), Jean, Beast, Storm (who is actually Storm) and possibly Emma Frost. As for the bad guy team, I'd like to see Magneto, Mystique, Toad, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Blob and Avalanche. And if this turns into a trilogy, well, damn!

Good ideas, Bamfer! Throw Gambit somewhere, and we are sold!

I hope and pray this is a reboot with an inspiring director

Maybe this X-Men prequel with young Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, and Storm could include hints about Apocalypse.

And then if the movie's super bad-ass, enough interest can lead to an all-out Apocalypse in X-Men 4!

Ah, that'd be awesome... But I'd settle for a great X-Men Origins: First Class movie. Show how they all ended up at Xavier's. That'd be awesome, too.

Okay, I don't care about Wolverine but this has potential to be an actual true to form X-Men movie if they can figure out how to incorporate Beast, Iceman and Angels origens.

AND I WANT SENTINELS!!

Magneto is overdone at this point, and it's too early in there career for Apocalypse, Sinister, ect...

This... is OLD news. Zack Penn was originally writing this, but then the got a different writer for it... They actually reported on this back then, I wonder why they're treating it as if it's new.

Yeah see, I even made a thread about it back when it was first reported. (Ignore the spelling mistake) http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=277672

I think the Magneto Origin movie is going to morph into this...

Gah I hope this X-Men: First Class gets looked into enough to be able to become a real movie. They could to the starting x-men but we've all seen them in action before. Maybe they could throw in Jubilee or something since she was barely seen.

If this movie is in continuity, Iceman and Angel can't be a part of it, period.

the sentinels would work, it explains why there in a hologram of one in the danger room

Some of you guys are getting ridiculous with your fanboy favorites. Here is a perfectly good opportunity for Fox to restart this franchise right, and here you are squabbling over selecting characters that come in years after the O5 have been established... Just stop it, because it's sickening.

Why do you think Marvel is taking charge of their properties. To make sure things are done right, not wrong. You start bringing in characters from different timelines then it screws up the entire franchise. Let the O5 establish themselves in the first reboot, and if that goes well and it's successful, then bring in the second wave of X-Men (Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, Thunderbird, Sunfire, Wolverine).

It really is pathetic to see people act like this...

Is this a reboot or prequel, then? I would have no interest in a prequel, it makes no sense really.

This , magneto , and wolverine will all lead up to one badass x4 , a least I'm hoping

How so? The X-men didn't exist before Wolverine?
