Sequels X-Men Live-Action TV Show in Development at Fox

I just want my action figures :(

And not these questionable-looking ones Hasbro has been churning out. I want a return to form for the Marvel Legends line.

Hopefully this new deal, whatever it is, is a step in that direction.

There have actually been some positive developments on that front, too. Lady Deadpool and Magik are getting nice collector figures, for example.

F*** the MCU. I'm tired of MCU this, MCU that. I don't want this tangled in MCU s***. I don't want forced crossovers for the sake of post-credits scenes.

I know right, people are all like X-Men in the MCU! It cannot even work anymore! Find me a realistic story way that it could work now. It can't. Keeping X-Men separate and distinct is probably for the best. These shows are probably going to be great.

Worry about that when/if it happens. There's always gonna people who want X-Men there and those who don't. Fox ain't giving up X-Men regardless.

Beast, Cyc, Deadpool and Magik have some good looking kotobukiya artfx+ statues. Marvel's never held back on Deadpool though. His diamond figure was their highest selling last year.

Rogue also just had an action figure announced at NYCC.

There are about two pages of debate about Marvel, Fox and the deal. Cool.

But what about the actual shows? Any thoughts? I have no idea what to expect from both, but especially Legion. I have no idea what they can do with that.

Not too interested in Legion tbh but the Fargo creator is on it which is awesome :up:

Hopefully Emma and Selene have big roles on Hellfire.

I'm really intrigued by the Hellfire series, looks like they could go with a tone/vibe similar to The Americans (less violent obviously) and that's one of my favourite shows, especially with how the Fox cinematic universe have shown how they like to tie properties to real life events

Who is this woman they're talking about who is planning to take over the world, or whatever it said in the announcement? Is it Emma Frost they're referring to there?

That description could be Emma or Selene. They've both tried to take over the world at some point in their careers with the Hellfire Club.

Why less violent? Not sure if you watch AoS, but a dude got punched to death on last night's episode. The Netflix shows are also fairly action heavy. I'm not sure Marvel Television is overly concerned about that.

I hope Marvel didn't just gave Fox the rights to do TV shows without getting something in return *cough*Fantastic Four*cough*

Setting Hellfire in the 60s. Are we thinking January Jones will reprise her role since Mad Men is up?

Maybe even Banshee. And of course Cuckoos. With Selene as an antagonist.

Also, Patrick Stewart is all over TV nowadays. I could see him poppin up in Legion, especially since FX has been able to grab major talent in the past.

Man, sign on tonight and find not one, but two TV series officially announced. And by Marvel, as well.

It sounds like there is a lot of cooperation going on, looking at the shared executive producers (though, hopefully, some are less influencial). I suspect a deal has been reached, that, might not be like the Spider-man deal, but a bit more cooperative. And it looks like both companies are sharing production. I am willing to bet that Marvel is going to be allowed to at least share some of Fox's characters. Honestly, this is a better deal than merely rights reverting.

And the series sounds great. Legion I think is going to be great. Action heavy, probably not. But, FX has done some great, dark series, and Legion sounds perfect for that. Hellfire sounds like it will be a bit more traditional, but I think we will have to wait and see.

One interesting bit of trivia for the Hellfire Club is their name, look, etc. is based on the 1960s TV show the Avengers (of the non-Marvel variety), which had Emma Peel dressed up much like the Black Queen (Emma Peel, of course, being inspiration for the name Emma Frost).

all reports say Perlmutter was the roadblock.question is did disney go over his head.

If it was up to him i seriously doudt the tv shows would be happening.especilly Bryan Singer,Simon Kinberg, and Lauren SHueller Donnor as executive producers on the shows.

Most likely yes, Disney probably stepped in to make a deal.

Honestly, it is the smart deal. Disney should make all the money they can off the X-Men even if they don't have them in their shared universe. Why should they sit on millions? Especially if you don't have to put in the production money to create it. It is virtually free money for no work.

Exciting news. Glad Fox finally got their head on straight and began cooperating with Marvel. I could care less about an X-men show, but hopefully this means big things for Marvels first family.

If this deal involved Marvel getting their hands on the Fantastic Four, some mention of that would've been made in the two announcements that were made concerning the two shows, so I wouldn't hold my breath on the FF showing up in the MCU any time soon if I were you.

Awesome news. Legion is one of the more interesting, versatile X-Men characters in recent years, with immense potential, and its awesome to see the Hellfire Club getting some love. I hope Ellen Page makes appearances on one of the shows, and that January Jones isn't anywhere near the other one.

Honestly, they would announce any such deal till after the DVD of F4 has released. Fox would still like to make up as much money as possible. No reason to hurt the sales by essentially announcing a reboot. I mean, they waited to announce the Spider-man deal.

The fact that the two companies are working close together at least suggests some sort of working arrangement, even if no rights actually reverted.

I don't think they would have announced that in the same press release but even if it's just a money deal, it's still completely worth it. They ain't getting the rights back and both Fox's and Marvel's X-Men deal sucked.

Hopefully all the over exaggerated nonsense of Marvel trying to bury X-Men for good will die now that they are in the business of expanding their universe.

Fantastic Four rights would not be part of the TV announcement, because for all intents and purposes they are not part of the same package. Fox stillhas to promote the HV release of Fant4stic, and admitting the return of FF to Marvel at the same time as this release would make Fox look bad. Many things happen behind the scenes, and don't happen day and date they are announced. That Spidey deal for example didn't happen at the same time it was announced. Marvel and Sony patched things up weeks before.

And don't expect some Sony-esque deal either for FF, they aren't a strong enough brand to demand such co-operation.

And @def28, unless it was a substantial amount, Marvel ain't going to give away valuable TV rights just for money. Some of you are over-exaggerating the leverage Fox has over this deal. Marvel has no reason to help Fox by greenliting no less helping in the production of an Xmen TV show unless they got something big in return, and other than Xmen which Fox won't let go of, that's FF.

You were completely wrong about the success of the FF film and the terms of the Spidey deal, so forgive me if I don't take your word as gospel.

Reversion won't be announced until after FOX squeezes a few bucks from FFINO DVD and streaming sales. I'm not holding my breath, as an announcement may not happen until 2016.

Excited for Hellfire since Fox can't use Emma Frost in their new continuity without first introducing Weapon X and their clones of her (the Stepford Cukoos) since the original Emma is kind of... dead right now.

Legion doesn't really interest me. I have no idea what Fox and Marvel were even thinking with this series. I mean, Fox could have repurposed New Mutants into a TV show since a film sequel would lead to the cast aging up too much between installments. They could have done something with X-Factor. We could have gotten Alpha Flight some attention... but both studios somehow settle on the most obscure character they could find? Somebody whose main claim to fame was killing Mystique's lover and Charles Xavier in the past? Outside of killing major characters, what has Legion done that's all that special? I would much rather see something done along the lines of the X-Files with mutants with X-Factor, The Facts of Life with mutants with new Mutants and JAG with mutants with Alpha Flight.

It's not like Legion wouldn't fit into a New Mutants cast. I'm not entirely sure what's going to happen with Legion.

I mean, with X-Factor, Fox could have Havok, Mystique and Quicksilver form their own team in the early 90s. Something where they'd wind up being secret agents for the government examining the unexplained, like what exactly is the deal with Shatterstar and Layla Miller, a world where reality TV is the basis of society, a ghost of a long dead mutant living on and possessing people and potential demonic invasion from Limbo. (also starring Rictor, Wolfsbane, Multiple Man, Polaris, Val Cooper and Strong Guy)

New Mutants could be about growing up at a boarding school where every few episodes a villain will show up. Most of the arcs would be character driven and students would both graduate to become X-Men and new ones would show up as freshmen with each season. This would have to be initially set in the mid 90s so we can have the cast age along with the films and not cause continuity problems. (Starring Hellion, Cypher, Surge, M, Magik, Wind Dancer, Synch, Mirage, Chamber, Cannonball, Sunspot, Husk, Karma and Prodigy. Possibly also Colossus and Rogue.)

Alpha Flight would focus on the lives of Canada's answer to X-Factor. A period piece set in the late 1990s, we'd get to see much of the series take place in a top secret bunker in the arctic with 3-4 expeditions per season out into different parts of Canada when something endangers national security. By that I mean uncovering a man trapped deep within the ice who has awakened to declare himself the Master of the World or a secret project among all the Western Bloc countries back during the Cold War to breed super soldiers which may still be around and may have gone rogue. (Starring Madison Jeffries, Puck, Windshear, Guardian, Vindicator, Sasquatch, Marrina, Aurora, Northstar and Shaman.)

Instead we're getting a TV series based on Legion...

I think there's an understanding that both studios had a ****** deal and the reality of the situation is the X-Men movies and franchise make money. Both have more to gain when cooperating. Even without trading characters and such.

Trust me, I would love to hear a shared universe deal or that F4 is at Marvel. The X-Men going to Marvel would be huge and boost X-Mens popularity, sells and mercy regardless of if everyone wants to see that happen. But even if that never happens there is a successful well known franchise that both companies could be benefitting more from. It's hard to deny that.

I've heard an argument that Fox doesn't technically own the rights to the FF films. Instead, they're owned by Constantin Films and Fox has a contract with them to essentially sublease the rights. Given that, they may not be Fox's to sell back.

They could have said no. You speak about a rights reversion for TV greenliting deal being preposterous, yet your scenario has Marvel agreeing to help Fox for nothing in return..

Money is nothing?

Money isn't necessarily great unless it was a pretty significant amount. Marvel has a TON of television plans (possibly including Most Wanted and Damage Control) and a Fox show could slow down progress on something they 100% own.
