With the recent release of X-men days of future past, fans seem to be pleased with how the X-men franchise is getting back on track... but can the X-men stand up against the box office record breaking team the Avengers? What side are you on? What team portrayed on film do you like better?

So what exactly is the poll asking? Which team do I like better, which movies are better, or which will make more money?

My answers to those would be Avengers, X-men, and Avengers respectively.

Ah, ok. That's what I figured. Personally, I prefer the Avengers.

Edit: Upon reflection.. Bad idea for a thread

Even up to now, the Avengers have been portrayed better. The only character who was shafted in any way was Hawkeye, but even for as good as DoFP was, the previous entries in the franchise dropped the ball with several fan favorites. So to answer that part of the question, Avengers by a fair bit. Who's side am I on? Whichever side delivers a high quality experience, so I'm pitching for both teams for the time being.

I like the X-Men more but this is personal preference, I feel like their stories are more interesting. Although Avengers thus far have perfected the team getting together dynamic.

This thread might get a little wild, so consider this the calm before the storm.

I recognized during X-men showings the audience reacts to more things than just the humor. During the Avengers showings all the audience reacted to was the humor.

If we're talking about a battle, the MCU Avengers would make the X-Men (based on the X2 team) look like children.

Cap himself would hold his own against most of the X-men. Add in Iron Man and it's not looking good at all for the mutants. If Thor joined the party, its over right there. And I won't even mention the Hulk.

If the X-men includes Magneto and Xavier, however, it's a whole different ballgame.

I wonder how long it will take until a mod closes this thread? :hmm

A battle between the X-men and the Avengers would be a very long battle. Lets see, how about these lineups. X-men: Wolverine, Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey, Beast, Colossus, Professor X. Avengers: Iron man, Captain America, Black widow, Thor, Hulk, Hawkeye.

Well, this thread was inevitable. lol

Honestly, without any bias, and purely from a standpoint of a person who loves film, X-Men wins. DOFP had way more gravitas with a cerebral plot, incredible performances, and overall emotional impact. Avengers was just a pure action/comic book film that also had great acting and character development. At the end of the day however, Avengers was a bit of a mindless, special effects heavy, summer blockbuster.

What I will say about Avengers is it was able to develop ALL its main characters and give them depth. Although DOFP did this with Logan/Xavier/Magneto/Mystique, and delivered solid characters in the form of Trask, Quicksilver, Beast and Kitty, it failed to really develop a majority of its crowded roster. They served their purpose though, as power pieces to show the struggle.

But overall, DOFP is superior as a film to Avengers.

In general, I think both X-Men and Batman will always stand out in the comic book film genre because they have more weight in the form of themes and seriousness. Just my opinion though.
