X2 voted best Marvel movie

Pleasant surprise I thought. It's still the best Superman movie, IMO.
Its amazing to me that the Donner films from the late 70's are still held in higher regard than the recent SR and MOS. I love Superman II by the way till this day.

Me too. There's somethin special about the original.

It's interesting with those two as it was the first major comic book movie and the first couple of scenes are for setting up the villains of the sequel. They were basically doing the same Nick Fury cameo thing Iron Man did except for a self contained movie series rather than a wider open-ended one

Well, I believe the original script when production started was meant for two movies so they knew what they were doing.

The Joker said:
Lex Luthor lets it down for me. Not a bad villain, but Stamp's Zod has it all over him. I also didn't care much for the spinning the world back in time bit either. I enjoy the Clark and Lois relationship a lot more in II. The action is generally better, too.

STM is still a classic though. It really started the CBM genre.

All valid points. Spinning the world back in time is problematic but it is also a classic movie moment. And you are aware that was supposed to be in the cimax of Superman II right? :woot:

I never had as much a problem with the whole spinning the Earth backwards bit as I simply took it for an easier way of showing him going back in time(still pretty much a cop out though whether here or at the end of Superman 2) but my big issue was how it causes the whole disobeying of the 'It is forbidden to interfere with human history' plot line to go absolutely nowhere. There's no consequences. He breaks the rule and nothing happens but him getting exactly what he wants. Maybe if doing this had resulted in Zod and the others being free and they wouldn't have been if he'd just let Lois die then it would work as it would basically be that Superman trades all the lives of the people that Zod & Co. kill just to get Lois back, however unintentionally on Superman's part.

Was some really good setting up.

Great scene to with the two hula hoops and their terror at the phantom zone shard

As someone who thinks X2 and Spider-man 2 are still the top Marvel movies, I'm happy to see X2 ranked so high.

Same here, both are still in my top 5. As a fan of Hulk and Superman Returns it was nice to see people voted them into the top 30 as well.

The nightcrawler white house scene and wolverine's berserker rage scene in the x mansion still holds up :D

I prefer the other X-Men movies to X-2. It just doesn't really hold up today. Aged badly.

Empire Magazine has also come up with a list for best sequels and had Aliens at #1. And why I love Aliens, Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back, even TDK I'd rank higher.

Maybe it's an English thing.

Readers of Empire also rated Benedict Cumberbatch the Sexiest Movie Star so I'd say they most definitely march to the beat of their own drummer and maybe a bit of it's an English thing. :woot:

What the hell makes X2 so good? Because everyone has a hard-on for Wolverine and he got even more screen time? Nightcrawler?

I thought X2 had a great story and it was based on God Loves Man Kills. Still my favorite X movie.

Well deserved. In a time where superhero movies weren't in, X-2 was a movie that really got people's attention. A good win for the leaders of the superhero genre

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight Rises should be a lot higher IMO. Maybe they do not want to seem biased towards any particular franchise

i think First Class is the best Marvel movie. X2, SM2 and The Avengers are arguably just as good tho

I don't agree with the list but its nice to see it so up there.

Truly a masterpiece!

X2 holds up wonderfully. It would deserve it's place in the top 3 of any list.

Not many marvel films have felt as sophisticated as X2. It's hard to think of one that tops it. If I had to pick I'd say Days of Future Past haha.

Say what you will about fox, but when they get it right, ITS RIGHT. Despite any fanboy complaints about this or that, Singer knows what works in order to make a great film, not just a great Comicbook movie (like the MCU) but a great film (like TDK).

I have much early '00s nostalgia (I can't believe that I just said that) for X2. It was the first superhero movie I've ever watched on the big screen. It's still a great movie. But I'm not sure if it's THE best marvel movie to date.

I think X2 is definitely better than most superhero movies so I'm glad to see it being rewarded as such.

The question is, under different circumstances like a movie from MS was named best Marvel movie in that highly dubious list, would CyclopsWasRight have felt the urge to make a thread about that too?

You see the agenda being pushed huh?

Who cares on who makes the thread?

X2 is a great film anyway!

I felt like X-Men: First Class, Batman Begins and Iron Man 1 were all ranked too low.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier didn't even make the top 10 and X-Men 1 and Blade 2 weren't even mentioned at all. This list sucks.
It's just someone's opinion :yay:
