X2 voted best Marvel movie

The thing is that list screws over X-Men films as well. First Class especially. I've seen that ranked in the top 5 in polls a few times, same with Iron Man and Bat Begins. The ranking is just all over the place and not really representing the general consensus I've seen in the past for years. Obviously not every list will be the same, but there's more then few weird rankings. Superman 2 being #3 is just odd.

With these things it's always good to know things like how many fans voted.

Love X2 but no way is it the best Marvel film for me, can't remember anything else besides that awesome Nightcrawler opening.

Avengers for me is the top Super Hero movie, it was amazingly fun, colorful and was super. A little disappointed TWS is kinda low since it's right under Avengers for me and above GOTG.

I like Blade, but better than both DOFP and TWS? :loco:

That list is pretty questionable, to say the least.
I'm not even sure X2 would make my top ten. DOFP probably would, maybe first class, but X2 is pretty overrated.

Twenty years from now, the only recent superhero movies that will indisputably still be talked about on a regular basis by the general public are TDK and the Avengers. I guarantee you X2 will only be remembered by people like us, and even then it will still be in the shadow of those two films.

Well it can't be that overrated if its number 2 on this list. The people have spoken. There is no need to be ******** over it. I am sure Avengers will be number one in a future poll.

Personally, I'm happy Watchmen is so high up the list. Great film.

Empire Magazine has also come up with a list for best sequels and had Aliens at #1. And why I love Aliens, Godfather 2, Empire Strikes Back, even TDK I'd rank higher.

Maybe it's an English thing.

I'd say the contrary. If someone thinks something is overrated it means that the person thinks it's valued to highly compared to his own opinion. Since it's #2 it could only get one step more overrated according to that person.

Since taste in art is still subjective neither the list or the term "overrated" has any value for me though.

Who is "********" exactly? Where are you getting that from? And yeah, I'm calling it overrated. I don't feel it deserves the praise it gets, and the funny thing is that it only gets praise on websites like this. I can't even remember the last time I heard someone in a face to face conversation bring up X2, but I frequently hear people talk about Batman Begins and Spider-man 1, which are two films from that same time frame that regularly get praise from people I know.

Yep.

Same. Love that movie

Dude made the thread probably to start yet another stupid fanboys war.

This is a perfectly valid thread celebrating the best marvel movie per the results of the public readership of the magazine. There is nothing in my OP that starts any such war.

Well, certain people have spoken or some people have spoken. I don't see how that amounts to anything significant. All this shows is that Empire's readers prefer X2. And this matters...why? Since when do Empire readers constitute a balanced cross section/sampling of fandom? That's a rhetorical question, BTW. They obviously do not. There are loads of online polls and such for magazines and fan sites. Do we need a new thread when each one of them happens to come up with a different result than we're used to just so certain fans of one singular series can point to it and say 'See, there is some validation of our opinions"?

Ugh, :whatever: whatever. I'm sure the Marvel Studios is quaking in it's boots at the idea of competeing against Fox's X-Men series.:hehe:

Here! Here! We should be celebrating FOX reaching the pinnacle of the X Men Series with X2.

I think the prevailing opinion if you could take a true cross section/sample would likely reveal that X2 isn't even the most well thought of X-Men movie, let alone Marvel film. But cling to whatever you want if it makes you feel better. Just don't try and make the argument that it proves anything about it being the best...because it doesn't.

I'm actually surprised X2 ranked as the best Marvel movie

It's a great movie and amongst the best but with the current climate I expected something more trendy to take that spot.

Four of the top five being movies that are between seven and thirty-five years old adds some credibility to the poll in my opinion as I've seen a few polls adhere to the notion that "new is better" or the older movies being viewed as not as good anymore like when people say things like "it was good for its time".
The way I see it is if it was good then, then it's good now, nothing about the movie has changed just perspective.

That's not to be confused with finding a movie enjoyable. Often kids like movies then when they grow up they may still see them as being enjoyable but often not 'good'.

I enjoyed Batman & Robin when I was ten but now view it as quite poor where as ones like Superman I enjoyed then and view as being good quality now as well as enjoyable

Basically what I'm saying is some stand he test of time and others not so much and it's pleasing to see those that have standed the test of time being recognised.

I love it, but I still prefer STM.

Me too. There's somethin special about the original.

It's interesting with those two as it was the first major comic book movie and the first couple of scenes are for setting up the villains of the sequel. They were basically doing the same Nick Fury cameo thing Iron Man did except for a self contained movie series rather than a wider open-ended one

Lex Luthor lets it down for me. Not a bad villain, but Stamp's Zod has it all over him. I also didn't care much for the spinning the world back in time bit either. I enjoy the Clark and Lois relationship a lot more in II. The action is generally better, too.

STM is still a classic though. It really started the CBM genre.

Yes, for me until the MCU came along STM was THE gold standard in CB/SH movies(IMO none of the Sony/FOX films or Batman movies other than BB come close to it and I'd rank it better than half the MCU as well). I still consider it the pinnacle of DC on film. It's just so epic in scale and scope, it's so ambitious and largely hits what it's aiming at. Supes 2 for me is still good but all the dumb humor Lester put into it(loads during the Metropolis battle) makes me take it down a few notches. It also doesn't help that there's like a bajillion different cuts of the film so parts that I like in one are missing in another that has different parts I like or not...ugh! It gets annoying. But Zod is great and thanks to him the film is still good overall. Stamp did a great job.
