X3 Box Office Tracker

potc2....i never thought i would be a fan untill i watched the first movie on dvd just 3 weeks ago. i liked the previews of part 2 at x3 to want to buy it! ill be first in line for pirtates!

I'm not hating on any movie...not Superman and not X3...I saw X3 6times...and Superman I will see again as well...but Pirates is gonna rock...I'm wondering though...websites and fans alike are saying Superman dragged a little cuz of its long running time...but Pirates has almost the exact same length...and when POTC2 becomes the number one movie...it'll have nothing to do with its running time.

There has to be a good balance of story/drama and eye popping action. something engaging! some films dont have that balance despite being good with the critics.

I did think I would leave SR with a lesser opinion of X3, and that wasn't the case at all. I'm still bummed that Fox chased Singer away...but I'm still very satisfied with X3.

Overall, Superman Returns isn't the top of list quality. Face facts, X3 is the better film. SR is very action light (and that action being solely scenes of Superman flying around catching and lifting stuff) and it's a complete rehash of the original film (I mean a COMPLETE retread).

It looks like these numbers will balance themselves out. You can't fool the public for long and I seriously think word of mouth will hurt Superman.

Oh, I definitely thought SR was a quality film. I grew up with the original two Superman movies, was delighted to hear that this would be a continuation of the series rather than a restart, and when I saw it last night I just loved all the nods to the original series.

I think the #1 complaint will be that it's too long. I can't see most of my friends' kids sitting through it, especially that last 20 minutes or so.

SR was the better film. Face it. I enjoyed X3 very much, but Superman Returns had a better script, more depth and emotion, better editing, and clearer direction.

Don't count SR out just yet. BB started even slower than Superman, but had great legs.

I thought the good and not so good of both films balanced each other out nicely. Overall I was very satisfied with both.

I think it would ultimately hold up well too...although Pirates is going to be tough next weekend.

Me too, but I enjoyed SR much more than I did X3.

Well, he ain't the Man of Steel for nothing.

If he can stop bullets in mid-air, he can stop pirates too. ;)

Neither is The Last Stand . . . by a long shot. Thus far, the facts hold Returns as being the better film . . . in every ratings system to date.

Action doesn't equal quality . . . if it did, movies like The Fast and the Furious and XXX2 would rate higher than most films. Thank God, they don't.

On a side note, Superman tends to fly, catch, and lift stuff--thats likely to happen when two of your most recognized powers are flying and superhuman strength . . . kind of like the Phoenix's Firebird (or any trace of a power aura for that matter--we know how that turned out). I got to see Storm create fog . . . again . . . and watch Wolverine stab a couple of no-name mutants followed by exact knock-off shots of him sheething his claws . . . talk about a rehash of power usage clips.

Nor are box office numbers indicative of quality either . . . you would be incredibly hard pressed to find a large number of people who would rate The Last Stand as being a better quality picture than Batman Begins, yet it earned more money than Begins.

Rehashes or retreads don't seem to bother general audiences either. Case in point, all movies today--anymore, everything is either a remake, a reinterpretation, or a sequel using the same old boring formula as its predecessors.

If anything is going to hurt Returns it will be its runtime and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest . . . but thus far, it seems to be winning the quality race over The Last Stand, no matter what the box office says.

Superman Returns is the better film, but in terms of entertainment and overall value, it's pretty much on par with X3...I'm not sure if that makes sense... :D

SR had a crisp finished touch, look, and feel, and it had the length that I dont mind sitting through,(the longer the better imo) and while I thought it lacked a grand finale...it was just one of those films that I didn't want to end...and part of that was because I was also waiting for something even bigger to happen...or maybe a wildcard ending like in BB...something to look forward to....but it didn't and I still liked it, same with X3...where that one was too short and had several plotholes and weak endings for characters (rogue), I still enjoyed watching it and watching these characters spring to action once more...so my attachments to these great stories and heros from my childhood make me a little a biased...therefore with their many flaws and a few dissapointing twists (the kid...and for Xmen our beloved cykes) I enjoyed them equally...but SR will come out looking like the better more finalized looking movie because it is...but I found many things in X3 far more exciting and thrilling...if only it could have had the treatment SR had...it would have won all of us over, hands down. Both movies had thier share of let downs, but doesn't it feel like to anyone else except me that the simple fact that these movies are getting made finally is a dream come true. I'll always be happy with that much atleast.

I enjoyed both films, but from an overall film standpoint, Superman was the better film - I can't believe someone would actually think X3 was better from a story telling point of view even though X3 was enjoyable as well.

I guess I'm on par with TNC's confusing thoughts............

There were some things that I enjoyed alot in X3 (mainly Angel's flight scenes/Cyclops short but awesome scenes/Jean's neighborhood fight), but overall I enjoyed Superman more.

Holy ****

South Korea has made 9.5 mil while X2 overall made 7.3 mil and SK probably has another 2 mil left in it...thats awsome

and in tawain X3 has made 2.4 mil while X2 did 1.3 and tawain might have another good 1 mil in it.

Define quality though because most kids have low attention spans and love more action and that drives them to the theatres. Quality time spent in the theatre to alot of pepole (when talking about superhero movies) is seeing lots of eye candy and action). X3 had a massive opening day and opening weekend because of this and the action heavy trailers. Superman's original trailers lacked action. However...you'll notice now the new TV spots focus almost entirely on the action, and the promo clips on talk shows are now only action sequences when before everything was 75% drama and 25% action. WB woke up but did they miss it? The biggest audience for these films are people under 21 and most of them are even under 18 as far as those who go back to see films more than once and drive the box office.

X3 does 610,000 friday per BOM when actuals come in im guessing closer to 650,000. I wonder if doing 5 mil through Monday is possible?

Maybe not, probably depends on how SR holds up. But I think the $235 million total is very likely now. Good number.

Carp Man dont you love the drama in the Supes board. Looking at the numbers i really didnt expect DWP to be that good but looking back the marketing was awsome!! Do you think X3 can do another 4-5mil in the holiday weekend?

X3 was not good but it was better then SR, I mean SR was boring, even tho X3 had its flaws but it was more interesting then SR.

SR was boring because it had depth and more of a story?

^ Yes. That's why it was boring to the kids who go to see these superhero films over and over. To me it was a great film. Today's market demands high action, less thinking, and more fun. Hence MI:3 being the best of the bunch and dissapointing, batman begins dissapointing, superman returns, etc..Though there is a level of stupidity the public won't stand for which is why King didn't make the 1 billion analysts were expecting.

If I want to see long love story I would watch smallville. Superman Returns was boring in all levels, all the action scens were all in the trailers and that was IT. The stroy line was IN MY opinion just not good and boring.

If you mean up to the 7th, I would have to say yes. I think it can do 3 to 4 million this week. When POTC opens then no. But yes the conversations in the Sups. board is facinating.

Guys, anyone have a link to a particular website that predicted the hits for the summer, placing POTC,SR, and the Davinci code above X3 in terms of profit?

I just think it's great :D
