XBL question

Ok so I canceled my XBL account when I got the Red Ring of Death. I sent my xbox in for repair and all that, but a day after my Xbox died my XBL account expired. Can I pick up where I left off with my gamertag just by renewing or did I lose everything (achievments, rankings and so on). I'll be pretty bummed having to start over on Halo. Is it conceivable to just pay for a new yearly membership with my old GT?

Your Gamertag just reverted to a Silver membership. All your achievements, downloaded games, etc.. are still in tact.

Just upgrade back to a Gold membership whenever your want to.

It's all about your Gamertag, not you paid subscription.
