you bastards are not allowed to fantasize about Jade anymore.

Work like this is protected by the First Amendment. Jerry Falwell tried to fight a drawing of him having sex with his mother, but it was protected.

If this goes to court, Ubisoft is losing.

Precedent FTW!!!

Unfortunately though, Ubisoft has far more legal resources and money at their disposal and can drag it out a lot longer. They can put quite the financial burden on Somethingawful simply by suing them regardless of the results.

it's not like this is the first time someone tried to sue SA though...although it looks like they did take down the images...but then again, they did send them that e-mail calling the lawyer a "***" (see how I quoted there, so you cant ban me...I'm a god damn genius) too...

oh yeah, if anyone wants to see what all the hubub is about, I dont have the pic saved anywhere ;)...you can still PM me though, and magically it might appear ;)

You need to be a little more subtle than that, mate. :ninja:

This is apparently what happens is a smart woman tries to make it in "a man's world" and happens to be attractive. :o

Sad but true. Ubisoft did use her beauty a little though, to promote the game, but the people who are cynics and say "it was all about Jade from day 1" made it about Jade Raymond of their own volition. It's not like they were ****ing her, or she was ****ing herself, she was doing what any producer would do in that situation promote their game.

Anyway, I doubt this stuff will phase her much.

No we didn't. Ubi Soft paraded her around because they knew she looked a hell of a lot better than Gabe Newell. That said, it's pretty low class to make a porno about her.

It was a comic strip first of all, and it was making fun of the way they paraded her around. It's no different than any other webcomic about any other game developer ever. I dont see anyone jumping to John Romero's defense over all the incredibly violent ways Penny Arcade used to torture him.

Well John whatshisname made outlandish comments in defense of his terrible game and released a terrible game.

A lot of times girls will do nothing to 'parade' around, but guys being guys, with guy brains, will view it as such. :oldrazz:

Eitherway, it was low of someone to make a porn comic of her, I don't really see her as having done anything wrong, but at the same time, it's wrong of Ubisoft to threaten a lawsuit (let's ignore for a moment that they can't win).

I mean lets be honest, the video game industry is predominantly male. So some good looking producer dude isn't exactly going to turn heads. But at the same time, you have known and outspoken producers like Cliff B, or David Jaffe. Now sure, relative to demographics, Jade Rymond is a lot more appealing then they are but she never shouted her mouth off or said controversial things to result in her attention. She's just charismatic and pretty, she really shouldn't have to dress herself down, and as long as she's not dressing herself up more than any other female professional would in a similar situation, than there should be no issue. But you guys look at her and thing 'ooo pretty' and then the cynics say it was all about her. Sure she got more photos taken, but she wasn't any more active than any other producer in doing their role, and if you read her interviews, she sounds like she's a very good producer. Not speaking to anyone in this thread, but just relative to some comments I've heard.

I don't know why Zenien is trying to defend her here, she's clearly in the wrong. If she didn't want photoshop porn to be made of her, she shouldn't have been such a sexually appealing "I won't have a problem with all your nerdy little hobbies" girl. She was practically begging for it.

So instead of having a Project Lead or a Studio Lead talk about the game (which is typically done and makes more sense) they have a producer who is barely in touch with the team presenting the game. Why? What makes her more qualified?

They used her "attractive female" image. Everybody knows it. Petri was barely interviewed on the game at all.

So now it's okay to attempt to humiliate her because of sexism within the studio, rather than the sexism from people who made the comic. Great. It's sexism towards a professional woman who was doing what her bosses instructed her to. Yeah, they probably did play up the fact that she was pretty, and maybe they would have had a more qualified member of the development out promoting the game if she wasn't. But IMO that is not an excuse to take her likeness and make a blatantly sexist and sexually degrading comic out of her. I obviously believe in freedom of speech, but I think that with it there needs to come some responsibility, just like the right to bear arms. Just because I should be allowed to own a gun doesn't mean I'm not a jerk if I go around shooting people with it.

1. It's a satire about how they're using her to sell the game.
2. If a person who makes web-comics wants to express his thoughts on it, he has that right.

BEHOLD! JADE RAYMOND!! ...and the rest of Ubisoft Montreal

She has her own stalker site now? :csad:

Ugh. I'd like to think that this is a "parody site," but somehow that doesn't seem to make it any less stupid.

I know some people believe she was chosen as the game's spokesperson for her looks, but she still did not conduct herself unprofessionally. She went out and talked about the game. It's not like they had her go do a photo shoot for Maxim or something. :o

I disagre with that. They used Patrice Desilets just as much, if not more, than Jade Raymond. Just about everything on the bonus disc of the Assassins Creed Limited Edition is lead by Desilets. I think there is one or two videos showcasing Raymond. I saw more of Desilets than i did of Raymond, at least towards the end of Creeds dev cycle.
