…die?

What i loved about how that scene was done was that you really can't tell if it was the fact that her head touched theground, or the force of the web yanking on her torso that sealed her fate; i guess it's up to the viewer. So, what do you think killed Gwen?

I say it was the web yank.

I did an analysis, so in depth.

It was the THUD but the web yank broke her neck and back too so if the THUD was not fatal, she would've died anyway.

Both :)

THUD. Nose bleeds are a sign of head trauma.. Well, maybe it was a bit of both.

Whiplash. She wasn't quite as close to the ground as early descriptions of the scene had made it sound.

In fact, the only things that differentiated the scene from the way she died are the location and the fact that the scene in the movie happened in total silence absent any music or sound effects.

idk if she died cuz of whiplash or head trauma. I do know that her head hit the ground though. I have seen some people denying this. 100% her head hit the ground.

She definitely hit her head. There was a very audible THUD in my theater.

She hit her head on the ground really hard. I guess that's instant death. Her nose started bleeding and I think that was the indication of that.

I don't think neck snap is in play here. Peter should (and I think he does) still blame himself though. He didn't reach her in time.

Here is my in depth analysis on it.

Her head did hit the ground just to stop speculation there is a noise when it hits almost like a crack. So my view is since spider man grabs the pole it cause the web to jerk to a sudden stop. Just like in the comic. So the sudden stop not only breaks her neck, but it causes her head to fall back onto the concrete hitting her head. Now I researched this because people were saying why wasn't there any blood. There are various types of head trauma where if you hit your head it will just bleed internally. So what I figure happened is since the web did stop it caused her to fall a bit slower then originally, and caused her head not to hit the concrete as hard, as if she was falling at full speed. The main point is that no matter what she still would have died. I think a majority of people will agree with me when I say her neck snapped no matter what. The only way she could have survived is if spider man jumped the moment he saw her fall. He was busy with the goblin and was about 4 or 5 seconds behind.

That's what I saw and the research I have done.
I apologize for the terrible writing its very hard to put into words. Overall the more I think about it the more iconic and amazing the scene was. By far my favorite in the movie.

Her diagnosis of death is exactly the same.

There differences are FIRST: Obviously the Clocktower instead of the Bridge. Rather than Gobby dropping her from the air and Spiderman web shooting after her, the clock gears snapped the web that caused the fall. And the other is in the comic Peter caught her by the leg and she ended up snapping her neck that way, while in the film she's caught at the waist and her neck snaps from the whiplash before hitting the ground.

If she had perhaps hit the ground perhaps a mili second before the web caught her, perhaps that would have broken her fall enough to which should have very well survived. Otherwise, I really think it was done exceptionally well. I wept. :csad:

When her head hit the floor it was fast enough and sudden enough that her brain moved inside her skull = Insta-Death.
:'(

Everyone in my Showing walked out red-eyed and sniffling...

I thought it was the whiplash/yank as well..but i acknowledge that her head did hit the ground..but it was just so subtle. It was wasn't as if it smashed into the ground. It was like a subtle head butt..similar to the force Marty's head hits the ground in BTTF 1, where he's hit by his grandfathers car….

why not both? lol

it was done beautifully though. Its the appropriate question to be asked coming out of the theater. Just like reading the comics back then, it made you question who was at fault.

We should ask @MarcW

he webs her and, originally, she didn’t hit the ground. She just bounced and her neck was supposed to break. But, what was interesting was people, when they watched that, the web represents salvation to people. They did not understand or believe or were not willing to accept that she had died — which is how it was done in the comics. So, we had to add a moment where there’s an impact wound. And then people understood what it meant.

I guess it's both, then.

It was definitely a combo of both. Either one would have killed her, she just happened to experience both at the same time.

There was no chance of her surviving once that webline snapped.

Her head hit the ground... you could hear it. Second choice obviously.

She wasn't near enough to the floor to have hit her head.

Also, the scene was entirely silent from beginning to end, so there couldn't have been an audible thud (or snap, for that matter).

A little of both.
Agreed - she hit her head first I think, then the webbing would have snapped her back. It's up to debate whether what killed her first. I'm leaning on the impact at the moment.
