It's not fair to judge "Bereft" before it actually airs, but it seems kind of early for an amnesia episode, and as Dread pointed out, those episodes tend to be lame. The whole "Jean Grey has amnesia" on W&TXM was dripping with lameness and felt forced as it served no real purpose other than to make her a damsel in distress for the sociopathic Cyclops to rescue later on, and the poor dumb schmuck didn't get so much as a handshake for his trouble (I'm still surprised they bothered to include her at all, considering that she's MIA in the comics these days & the current X-crew is all about Emma Frost).

What bothers me about this relationship, what little relationship is actually there, is that Megan seems to do all the heavy lifting while Superboy just sits there like a bump on a log, in this episode literally (I'm guessing him watching the snowy TV screen is supposed to be funny but it does come off as unintentionally creepy). I know he's an emotionally stunted clone, but would it kill him to make a gesture? He doesn't even get annoyed when Kid Flash randomly hits on Megan (then again, maybe it's better that he doesn't). About the most he's done so far to show any sign of reciprocating her feelings was to tell her she did alright with their Happy Harbor mission in "Dropzone", and managed to say it with an encouraging smile, though I guess reluctantly (and quietly) agreeing to help her prepare dinner counts (along with them being volley ball team one against Robin & Aqualad in Infiltrator). Considering how annoyed she looked when Red Tornado walked in, you have to wonder if something almost happened and then Superboy broke away not knowing what to do; and look at how violently she was chopping those veggies, probably thinking "So close... so damn close..."

Speaking of creepiness in general and in regards to this 'relationship', did anyone else find it creepy that Megan set her sights on Superboy so quickly from the end of Independence Day, part 2? There are times where it's hard not to think of her as being a little stalkerish towards the boy of steel. I was like "Geez, at least give her a few episodes to bond with the guys before setting her sights on someone."

Seeing the 3 generations of Flashes together was cool, but did anyone else notice that they got Iris West-Allen's hair wrong? Iris doesn't have red hair, she has brown hair (though sometimes it looks a tad auburn). I'm guessing they fudged it to make her look more related to Wally (without getting into some very complicated history).

I didn't notice Iris-West's hair color. I barely even noticed her. I'm not a major DC fan.

Megan doing the heavy lifting in her relationship is due entirely to this show deciding to make Superboy an angry, brooding, damaged goods loner type instead of the type of character he was for over half of his existence in the comics (and during the comic run of which this show gets its title). If Superboy was the funny, cocky, and naive sort he was until the last half decade, this relationship might have more life. Unfortunately, he might have then clashed more with Kid-Flash, the OTHER funny, cocky, naive sort. So when the writers were settling on character archetypes, Superboy fell into the angry loner muscle type.

In the show's defense, Megan is an empath. Since she is dealing with a guy who keeps his feelings to himself, which she knows, Megan may HAVE to do the heavy lifting if she wants ANY chance at a relationship with him. Just being Superboy's ALLY required a near death experience at his hands by half the team. If Megan wasn't the one doing the gestures, Superboy would not pursue. He IS becoming less like who he was in the pilot, although "BEREFT" will unfortunately get him back to screaming and hitting things, which is getting old. If I wanted that, I wouldn't watch Superboy - I'd watch the Hulk.

It does seem a little odd that Megan attached to him before she had much chance to know the others. It could be because of the Superman symbol, which she knows even with 6 month amnesia. Superman IS well respected a a hero across the universe, after all. Hell, his symbol is respected, or flaunted, in the street in tattoos and t-shirts. It could be because she "felt" his mental anguish and wants to nurture him. It could be because as a secret White Martian, he is the easiest to manipulate so she can control the team's muscle. Who knows right now.

I am still not convinced Megan is as "pure" as she seems, given her history in the comics. Greg Weisman IS a guy who managed to turn the identity of Green Goblin, despite 35 years of times, prior cartoons and three feature films, into a legitimate mystery. It may be possible that Megan is a deliberate mole for the White Martians, or is part of a plan that runs so deep, not even she is aware of it. What better way to infiltrate the League than having someone pretend to be the family of the home-sick Martian Manhunter, who HAS to be so convincing that she fools his telepathy - which means she has to believe it herself.

I doubt you'll see Iris enough for it to be a major issue. And with how their handling Megan's attraction to Superboy, keep in mind this is supposed to be a depiction of a teen with a crush. We were all there at one point, where you just go after someone you find attractive (and, since we're all nerds here, we were usually sheepish and nervous about it). It's just especially dragged out here because the writers think that somehow makes a better story (or are dragging it along until they can devote a whole episode to them getting together).

That is a good point.

"X-MEN EVOLUTION", amazingly, drug out Scott and Jean getting together for 3 seasons. However, while the show established the two as "long time friends", they allowed them both to date other people. Jean dated jock Duncan Matthews and Scott dated Taryn. Atop of that, Rogue genuinely pined for Scott, shared chemistry in every scene with him, and was part of a triangle with Jean. While even the characters in the show would go, "FINALLY!" when the pair finally hooked up, enough road blocks were set up that it was probably a surprise, or at least not as obvious, to longer term fans too. Heck, some fans STILL ship for Scott/Rogue for that show. I should know, because I did once.

On the other hand, this show quickly set up Megan as hot for Superboy, and then decided to have Wally flirt endlessly for her, as if he has a chance. If anything, the amnesia episode may serve as a deck clearing exercise to get the characters out of some dead-end personality paths. Get Superboy to appreciate Megan more, get Artemis and Kid-Flash to not hate each other, etc. The show was assembled in such a rush, that Wonder Girl wasn't approved until halfway through the writing process for the season, and I imagine things were changed on the fly to get her into scripts. WB approved the show very last minute, which was why we needed to wait 2 months for additional episodes after the pilot; they needed time to edit them for airing. So it is possible that some of the quirks and tropes I am harping on are the result of some very high pressure, very high speed writing with tight deadlines. If so, then the fact the show is STILL as good as it is despite all that is itself impressive.

That's actually what I was thinking. Maybe The Light was talking to him through the tv. Hopefully this comes up again later.

...God, that was creepy.

It was. Of course, in two films, Lex Luthor would utilize high frequency sonic signals to contact Superman, as does Jimmy Olson's signal watch. So how difficult would it be to transmit stuff over a digital TV signal that maybe only Superboy could sense...

Oh, and I am tired of endlessly calling him "Superboy". He needs to get the name Conner. Maybe the amnesia episode will provide that. He may take the name for some reason and then keep it after the experience is over, to represent moving on. That still makes the plot gimmick look like...well...a plot gimmick. But "YOUNG JUSTICE" would hardly be the first or last show to use one. "DALLAS" practically invented using the "it was all a dream" angle to wash away rubbish stories, didn't it?

Lol you guys are acting like naruto fans with the suberboy/ miss Martian thing. I'm glad to see them getting into a relationship it's something new.

I stopped watching Naruto pretty early on, but are you talking about how Sakura (Megan) really liked Sasuke (Superboy), who remained distant and acted like he didn't care at all?

Like Dread said, the next episode will probably provide an opportunity to set things right and create a spot for Wonder Girl.

Was I the only one more worried about WHY IS SUPERBOY STARING AT A STATIC TV than the romance. Seriously, there's adjusting to a human life...and then there's THAT. That was kinda creepy. Maybe there's more going on there than we think...
I think he was just too dumb to figure out how to change the channel. That's what I got from that scene for some reason...

Except for the fact that, in the first issue of the spin-off comic, Superboy has watched TV with Wally before when he stayed at his house for a few days after the Cadmus deal. Granted, all he did was watch TV for eight straight hours with Wally until Mrs. West kicked them out, but he'd know that the static in the TV is not right.

And again, he just kept staring at the screen like a zombie. That's just...weird.

Maybe he finds it soothing in a weird way. If you grew up in tube, you'd probably acquire some odd traits.

In the tie-in comic he sleeps stand up in Wally's closet.

That's certainly possible.

Never seen Naruto.

Megan doesn't make extreme chibi expressions or animation. That said, she is shipping for Superboy about as obviously as many anime heroines. A girl throwing herself at a completely oblivious, sack of turmoil/aggression of a guy is actually standard fare for anime.

I don't know about Wonder Girl exactly, although she should be coming around the middle or end of the season. But, I do see the amnesia episode being used as a hammer or path to get characters to certain routes.

Also possible, although my theory has more plot potential.

That is REALLY creepy.

Did he come out of the closet? (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

I'm a huge DC guy, but am I the only one who's bored to to tears by this show? It seems so bland to me.

Nope, you're not the only one. It's been fair to mediocre so far to me too.

You really are.

It's another home run in my book. I don't think DC has had a bad show. The closest ones were Static Shock and The Zeta Project, if it counts, and even those were pretty good.

Edit: I stand corrected.

I'm actually a big fan of the slower pace and character development on this one. I like getting to know the characters so their problems become a big deal. Plus the action is phenomenal and these are the best character models that DC has ever had imo.

The Batman is their worst to me. It got better over time, though, so I'm hoping the same happens for YJ.

See, regardless of the change in characters, I quite enjoyed The Batman. Maybe it's because I'm an Ultimates fan that changes on this and Smallville don't bug me and actually leave me curious to see the takes on these characters. I felt it was a good mystery show that still managed to keep things fun in an Adam West kind of way without getting campy.

Another thing to add to my crackpot theory: At the end of "Fireworks", the Light referred to Superboy's loss as "temporary". Not to mention they might take control of Cadmus again using "subtler" methods.

wow really ?

Yeah Aqua Lad is cool. but he seems to be the only one who seems like a real badass hero. He takes pride in his job, the others need to grow up if they want the older guys respect. Plus the teen romance crap is lame.

It is a show about teenagers who are learning to grow up.

Ironicly, Aqualad and Megan seem to be the only ones intrested in romance, Wally is just really horny,Artemis to a lesser extent, and Robin and Superboy almost look asexual.
