Your Favorite Batman Comic/Graphic Novel?

Arkham Asylum
The Dark Knight Returns
Gothic
The Killing Joke

Year One: Batman Ra's Al Ghul. Hands down. ...Well out of all the ones I've read it's hands down the best. ^_^

I'll ask this here to avoid making unnecessary threads.
Any good Black Mask comics or graphic novels out there?

Read War Games. It's not only his reintroduction to the mythos but also the story of his taking control of the Gotham underworld... Murdering his way through supporting characters as he goes...

Under the Hood - halfway decent trades and definitely the only ones worth reading with Black Mask in a prominent role. You can make do with just Vol.2 if you don't want to buy both. Vol.2 has all the important Joker/Jason bits.

War Crimes is one the lowest points in Batman comics of this decade :o

wow you must have read some crap comics

The Dark Knight Returns
Nothing else comes close.

No Man's Land
The first couple of volumes, especially.

Gotham Central
Not sure if that counts but, as a glimpse into Batman's world, I thought it was in a class of its own.

doug moench and kelley jone's batmanrun in the 90's focused very much on black mask as batman's main villian and are by far the best black mask stories out there (his reintroduction in war games was imo HORRIBLE). too bad that moench's run isn't available in trade-form.

@topic
i've finally read batman r.i.p. and liked it very very much. it isn't my favourite graphic novel, but was still a very very interesting read and sadly underrated by so many fans.

I looooove that run. I particularly loved the Clayfaces arc, Penguin's arc, and Anarky's introduction.

Sheer gold.

They also did some great Joker stories, I wish those we' re reprinted in the Greatest Joker Stories, instead they keep reprinting the same old stories.

I'm not a hardcore fan but I'm still a fan. Batman is my favorite comic character. I'm not that picky. But I don't read much comics on him. So maybe I have read crappy ones but here's the ones I HAVE read.

Arkham Asylum
New Gotham Evolution
Deathblow
and obviously Year one: Ra's Al Ghul
I've read a few others but I don't remember which. Too long ago.

I didn't like Arkham Asylum. Reason being I didn't like the way they betrayed Batman. He was a total pansy! I mean come on. Batman being beat by some thug choking him to death?! Give me a break. Batman could at LEAST roll over or throw the thug off him. That lady had to KILL the guy to save Batman. That just killed it for me. And he was boo hoo throughout most of it. Overall the novel was good but it's just the way Batman's character was.

I liked the other two but I think the reason why I liked Ra's Al Ghul the most is cause he's my favorite vilian. Idk. Maybe it's time to read more comics! Lol.

The Dark Knight Returns

And as far as my favourite Batman comic book goes ... I cant say if it's my favourite, but I do remember enjoying the "Secret Origins Special". Featuring Two-Face, The Penguin, The Riddler, and a cameo from The Joker at the end (which was great).

Killing Joke
Preludes to Knock-Knock Jokes
....RAAWR. haha.

I would have said the Year One story by Frank Miller. I also have a special fondness for an early Batman Special issue who's title illudes me. Had something to do with this alternate Batman dressed in dark colours. More or less an Anti Batman who's parents were also murdered the same day Batman's were but he choose a darker path. Other then that I"d have to say my all time favourite is The Long Halloween. It had everything. All the villains, a great story and a mystery that had me wanting to turn each page but at the same time hating to complete the novel. I've always loved Batman because of his detective skills and this book clearly demonstrated that side of him. Second runner up with be Dark Victory.

Abit of topic here but i didnt want to create a new thread..people generally consider Dark knight returns, long halloween and year one to be the best batman stories,i just wondering if anyone felt that anything has come close to that standard since?

I would say in recent years nothing has come close to those standards. The only recent book that I go back to quite a bit is this one issue that came out in 2008 by Frank Morrison where almost the entire issue is text. I don't remember the issue number but it's mainly about the a disfigured Joker in arkham. I've read that quite a few times but the rest of the R.I.P arc and War Games and I'm betting Battle for the Cowl were average at best. I have yet to see any papers, cnn or anyone else for that matter covering Batman's fate in Final Crisis the way that Captain America's death was handled. I guess it speaks to the indifference most people feel to DC comics lately. I hope they turn things around.

I'm a huge fan of Arkham Asylum, the Killing Joke, the Long Halloween, and Year One to name a few.

Dark Knight Returns
Batman&Son Black Glove RIP
Dark Knight Strikes Again
Killing Joke
Blind Justice
All Star
Year One
Ego
Gothic
Year 100
The Cult
Collected LotDK
Son of the Demon
Strange Apparitions

roughly in that order

standout uncollected issues are
Gene Colan Doug Moench run
Peter Milligan run
Jones and Moench

I still haven't read much of the Grant Wagner Breyfogle issues

I did find the title for this one gem I read years ago as a kid. The issus is called Batman Special #1 and it features and Anti-Batman character named Wrath. I heard they recently brought him back into comics. I forgot to mention the Hush storyline was pretty good too for recent times. Still not sold on his 'back story' and only wished that Hush actually had been Jason Todd.

Just finished Batman and the Monster Men, I enjoyed it.

My favourites are:

The Long Halloween
Year One
The Dark Knight Returns
The Man Who Laughs
No Man's Land Vol 1-4
Batman vs Two-Face
Arkham Asylum
The Killing Joke
