World Your favorite Superman: Which actor did it best?

Christopher Reeve will obviously be the one and only Superman to many of us. But to be honest, and not because it's 'new', I think Brandon Routh comes awfully close to being the perfect Superman in my book.

George Reeves in an episode of The Adventures of Superman delivered a line to a young boy that, ....only Superman can do these amazing things, especially flying......,this was in response to reports that children where jumping out their bedroom windows...in imitation of the classic Reeves take off.

i loved tom welling as clark kent he really matured and evolved and grew throughout smallville chris reeve is still my favorite but tom welling comes a close second followed by brandon routh and dean cain third.

Christopher Reeve without a doubt. He brought a sincerity to the role of Superman that has never been equalled, let alone surpassed.

Brandon Routh did a great job as Clark Kent. But I was not so engaged with his Superman.

Dean Cain, well although I watched and enjoyed "Lois and Clark" I felt that there was not enough distinction between Clark and Superman. Cain's Clark was a bit too confident to me.

He possessed charm, carisma, authority, character, raw emotion, and his acting was simply brilliant!


The worse for me was Routh.

It's ridiulously rare to find Superman fans who will openly admit they hate the Reeve movies.

Even I find myself putting him higher up the list than I'd like... mainly because I feel like I have to accept that he was a great Superman BECAUSE he's so popular... even if I just don't see it.

Even though I've already posted my opinion here I want to say how underrated Gerard Christopher is. He was fantastic as both Clark and Superboy in my opinion.

I didn't even know that was possible. I could see hating 3 & 4... but not the Dick Donner ones...

It's truly sad to watch Reeve in Superman IV, he himself knowing he is in an awful movie, an insult to a once-great franchise. On set, Reeve told Jon Cryer (Lenny Luthor) that the movie was going to be really bad. And yet Reeve and Gene Hackman, ever professional, give performances much better than the movie deserves.

Anyway, I'll attempt to rank the Superman actors....


1. Christopher Reeve - obviously.
2. Brandon Routh - a detatched alien messiah.
3. Kirk Alynn - Siegel and Schuster's character come to life.
4. George Reeves - charming performance, but a little too relaxed and 'uncle-y'.
5. Dean Cain - fantastic in every way except when he is in the super suit.
