Hi,

I thought it would be interesting to discuss what our preferred movie review/movie discussion shows are on Youtube. What we like about them, dislike, etc.

Allow me to start off in no particular order.

Collider Video - I've been a daily watcher since the AMC days, and still a fan despite some of the recent changes. At the moment the only specific show I watch is Movie Talk, occasionally TV Talk or The Jedi Council if time permits.

The John Campea Show - A daily listener since he left Collider to go solo and I thoroughly enjoy listening to his very articulate opinions, although his bias for Star Wars does get overwhleming at times.

What The Flick - I enjoy their refreshing, objective and honest opinions on movies. I think in many ways they're much more honest than the good folks at Collider.

Chris Stuckman - Nice, objective and simple movie reviews at reasonable lengths.

Beyond The Trailer - Honest and objective, and while I don't always agree with her, I do appreciate her analysis.

What about everyone else?

I want to like John Campea, but he spends so, so much time prefacing all of his comments.

Double Toasted

If you guys want true showmanship, check those guys out.

Double Toasted. They're funny a bit long winded but they're really cool. They used to be Spill.com

Screen Junkies. I do like they're take on things, but they're a bit too negative at times.

Collider Video. I used to watch religiously but it became boring when Movie Talk just became superhero/Star Wars hour so I stopped. Also they seem a bit too positive.

Interesting, what exactly do you mean by this?

"I didn't like such and such trailer, but before I tell you why, let me digress and explain in detail how I'm a huge fan of the director/franchise/actor etc.."

How many times do I have to hear before he talks about a DC property him explain that he loves MOS and thinks it's a masterpiece. We know John.

I never got into Screen Junkies to be honest.

Oh and I totally agree with you regarding the Collider crew's tendency to be overly positive (goes back to my earlier point of other channels being more honest in their content).

Also, as much as I respect Dennis Tzeng's knowledge and contributions off camera, the guy SHOULD not be in the front of the camera.

Haha! Agree.

I like Kristian Harloff, but Mark Ellis keeps trying to do his stand up routine during reviews and I find it annoying.

The one that employs fanboy creeps in front of and behind the camera.

I recently realized that there is a severe lack of these kinds of channels with a female host.

Not necessarily. If your looking for real film analysis, like really deep dive A+ film analysis, women are dominating. Chez Lindsey's doing top notch work. The more geeky crowd pleasing shows tend to be more brocentric.

Hi,

So are most of the Collider folks.

I like Collider and Schmoes Know.

They have this black lady on sometimes named Ti, who is a producer on Cinefix. She's no fan of the Superhero/Star Wars films as she favors more Indie films.

Collider - pretty informative and I like that there's lots of variety in their hosts, guests, and the different shows. Sometimes their hosts get a little too "jokey" for my tastes. Give me guys like Schnepp just delivering the goods with an occasional joke, I don't need the standup routines.
Campea - I like his enthusiasm more than anything else. I agree with others, I think he hedges a little too much, but he's knowledgeable and he does get pretty in depth with his opinions.
Half In The Bag - Entertaining and knowledgeable, the skits used to be funny, I've noticed this year they've ditched them mostly for just straight up reviews, but they've also done a lot less reviews than they've done in previous years. Still, they are pretty solid and I usually line up with them opinion wise.

I like Kristian Harloff, but Mark Ellis keeps trying to do his stand up routine during reviews and I find it annoying.

Ellis is somewhat funny from time to time, but he doesn't let the jokes get in the way of the show. The same with Ken Napzok, he controls the show when he hosts and doesn't let it fall off the rails. Macuga on the other hand....:cmad:

Well he kinda has to because every time you say something negative about ____ people assume it's you "hating"

He loved MoS and didnt he like BvS and Wonder Woman and still people think he's out to get the DCEU

Although at this point, just roll with it

Well I don't need someone who's not a fan of those things. Be a fan all you want but when it feels like the only thing that gets a host excited are superhero/Star Wars and it feels like it takes up most the show it gets tiresome

He actually liked both BvS and Wonder Woman. As for those people, they will ALWAYS think that way if you say something bad about something they like. It makes no difference what you said before. You could give glowing reviews to all the DC films, but the moment you say "Gee, things aren't looking so hot for "The Batman"", you'll be labeled a DC hater. Forget those *******s.

Most of the Collider crew are major Star Wars nerds: Ellis, Harloff, Napzok, Janhs, Reilly, Nemiroff, Rocha and Griffin. Also, Wendy Lee is one too. Campea was before he left. From watching Collider everyday, Jon Schnepp is more of a casual Star Wars fan although Schnepp is a big comic book nerd. In fact, back when Movie Talk was at AMC, they brought him on board when the first GOTG movie was announced. It seems like the only ones who are not a huge Superhero/Star Wars fan are Clarke Wolfe, Dennis Tzeng and Josh Macuga, but neither of them hate those movies.

Cinemassacre: AVGN, Board James, MF Mike.... they're fun whenever they talk about any kind of entertainment, including their movie reviews.
