Your top 5 Tim Burton movies

No love for Batman (89)?

It's not one of my favorites. I don't dislike it, I just find it to be one of Burton's least interesting movies. I prefer my Joker to not be wasting time stalking blonde photographers, or cutting a rug to Prince. I didn't find the Batman and Joker rivalry particularly compelling. The last minute twist of Joker being the killer of Batman's parents really cheapened it for me, too.

Batman Returns was much more interesting, even though it was more a Burton movie than a Batman movie, the new characters were fascinating, and I just love the wintery Christmas setting.

Oh, well those are valid reasons.

But I have to ask, were you a Joker fan before you saw B89?

For me, Nicholson was one the people who made me love the Joker.

No I wasn't. Nicholson's Joker was one of the first Jokers I'd seen, along with Cesar Romero's Joker in the 60's TV show. While I really enjoyed Cesar's Joker, it was all camp and silly (plus I was much more impressed by Burgess Meredith as The Penguin and Frank Gorshin as The Riddler in that show). Mark Hamill's Joker is the version that first got me interested in the character big time.

1. Batman

3. Beetlejuice
4. Edward Scissorhands

Hamil's Joker is indeed awesome.

No disagreement there. :cwink:

Edward Scissorhands
Big Fish
Ed Wood
Batman Returns
Nightmare Before Christmas

I don't know if I'd call Burton a great director. He's been far too uneven over the years, especially recently. But he has made some undeniable classics and he's carved out a niche and style of his own, a rare thing.

Sleepy Hollow

I haven't seen Big Eyes or Big Fish oddly enough. Burton has had some misses , but I still consider him a great director.

Since he didn't direct A Nightmare Before Christmas, I won't put it on the list.

Ok I just saw Big Eyes. Updated my list.

I honestly think Edward Scissorhands is as close to a perfect film as you can get. It delivers on all fronts, and I actually still view it as being Depp's best performance.

Beetlejuice
BATMAN
Pee Wee's Big Adventure
Edward Scissorhands
Ed Wood

Frankenweenie, despite some well done animation was a waste of time. It did little to justify being extended into a feature length movie, suffered from a rote Burton style and in a few moments was actually quite racist.
