the real meltdowns would only begin if WB pulls a 180 and wants Snyder to come back and direct movies for theatrical release. I doubt people will cause as big a fuss as they did with BvS. We have viewing options now, back then not so much.

i just don't see the SC being overwhelmingly popular and praised the way the mandalorian is.

snyder's sensibilities are always gonna be niche and divisive.
he does not direct for mainstream, populist tastes.
that's just how he operates.

but i do think streaming is a better usage of his talents.

Streaming is absolutely the best use of his talents.

Warner Media will be happy as long as people watch the film. WW84 may not be hitting the home run they hoped for but the massive engagement (good or bad) because of it has got to have them dancing in the streets. (if the streaming numbers are to be believed) They dont need to worry about legs or box office drop offs because people may be disappointed, but enough people are watching it that for Max it is a huge success. It is a perfect film for streaming...

ZSJL is the same thing. Jut get people to stream it...if they like it great! If they hate it, oh well they clicked! If they talk about it endlessly on Twitter that is even better! Howard Stern never complained because 1/3 of his audience only "hate listened" to him and neither did the stations themselves. When the ratings books came out they all looked the same.

Put it this way lets say 5 million people watch it. In the theater that is colossal failure. On Max that is a lot of engagement. (still low but the point is the metrics are different) And if the next week it is not close to nearly as much it doesn't have the same impact a 70% dropoff at the BO has. And no one cares what critics think about streaming stuff...it is like caring about what Siskel and Ebert would have said about a direct to video release.

Yep. It is much easier for people to avoid this if they don't want to watch it. If this was only a theatrical release then there would be more vitriol.

Happy New Year guys. This was without a doubt one of the most f***ed up years in recent history and during this year of struggle I always found solace coming here to chill with you guys and speculate. I’m so happy we kept this forum alive and it was so incredibly cathartic that we were rewarded earlier this year with the announcement of this thing finally coming. This thing we wanted so badly but deep sown probably knew was not going to happen anytime soon. It was a rare bright spot in such a dark depressing year.

In a few months we’re getting this movie and hopefully by the time this comes out, things around the world in general will start to get better and we will see some light and begin our march into normalcy again.

Jared Leto coming in with some intriguing stuff :

“I may or may not be in this; I’ve heard the rumors too,” he said coyly. “We’ll have to let Zack [Snyder] confirm or deny that one.” When pressed about whether he shot some scenes, he answered much the same, “I may or may not have shot something with Zack, but I love him, he’s just a maverick and an incredible filmmaker; we get along great and have great chemistry.”

Perhaps tellingly, he says, “I look forward to working with him again in the future. We have lots up our sleeves, Zack and I.” Again? Snyder’s technically never worked with Leto before (outside of the DC Films he’s listed as a producer on), so that might be the confirmation fans need. As for the “we have lots up our sleeves,” part, well, get to speculating, I guess.

I’m definitely curious to see just how willing the actors are to come back for Zack should they get the chance to. Feel like some would definitely be game while others might (just speculation on my part) need some convincing

That is hardly the same thing and you know it. How much is JL2 with this cast and with Snyder going to cost? There is no way they will make the investment back releasing it on Max and we know it wont set the world on fire in the theaters.

The only way Snyder is getting JL2 is if he can cut the budget to super manageable levels which will make the project impossible anyways.

Them allowing him to finish a project is a lot different from taking another stab at a fresh film. You dont take something like Justice League and release it on streaming. If it gets another film, itll be for theaters and they will want someone who can deliver instead of someone who helped tank their 2 biggest heroes and biggest team. BUT, he does fall upward so stranger things have happened.

There’s some evidence that Snyder originally had JL Part 1 and Part 2 set for 2017 and 2019. Did Kevin Smith and others get some information wrong (wouldn’t be the first time since he got the space travel wrong). Maybe Part 3 was only something Zack started thinking about because in 2015/2016 he knew he’d only be allowed to release a 2.5 hr movie, and no more than that for sequels. Now he has the opportunity to create longer movies.

On the subject of canon, that is a fluid thing. It really depends on the film. Snyder's JL will be canon within the trilogy of MoS, BvS, and it. That doesn't mean it will be for other DCEU projects, but who knows. We have seen reboots and reworking what is canon many times in various franchises. The Showalter Godzilla films are their own canon, and the Heidi films ignore them but recognize the original Gojira. The latest Halloween film ignores all films after the original Halloween. But that also doesn't mean those original sequel do not exist. They are canon within each other.

So, I am not overtly worried whether Snyder's JL is canon or not. It won't make much a difference in the end
