Deadpool 2 Zazie Beets officially cast as Domino in Deadpool 2

They're taking their time haha. Lady Deathstrike in Weapon X looks similar to Kelly Hu. Negasonic in Deadpool looks exactly like the movie version.

I don't think Zazie's Domino will have any effect on the current character though, maybe in another universe.

I REALLY like the look of the character and I actually really like the white/vitiligo spot. It keeps it from being too one color/note. The white patch helps breaks it all up a bit.

And I just noticed that the other side of her face, where the mark is, isn't all white and you can see her real skin color under her eyes. I mean yikes, they couldn't even get it right.

You do realize that's how vitiligo works. It's not going to create perfect shapes on the skin.

Curious about the source. Let us know.

And it seems like I was right regarding the vitiligo around her eye.

I love her look :ilv:

It's not just a look. It's a lewk. And it's amazing!

Two messages from Deadpool make-up artist Bill Corso himself:
So a friend posted this earlier and yes, lucky me, I've been spending time with this lucky lady at the office. I've loved every interpretation of this creature so I hope you don't mind our crack at doing something fun with her. #deadpool #deadpoolmovie Makeup by Monica Huppert ( with a little oversight by myself) and Hair by Anne Carroll. #killingit #makeup #makeupartist #hairstylist #movie #comicbooks #domino #luck #power #rug

Here's a better look #Domino Fascinating to see everyone's reactions to this gorgeous creature. This happens to be a case of casting the best person for the job. Someone who could bring something original to the table while still being strong, sexy and with enough personality to go head to head with the Merc with a mouth. Not an easy combination to find. And for those missing her signature look, trust me- the slightly talented Makeup Designer, I've done this stuff once or twice, we tried every look you could think of and went with the look that rocked the hardest! #Trust #the #specialists #makeup #beauty #makeupartist #deadpool #sexy #smart #luck #hero #comicbook #woman #fighter #nojoke #damn #marvel #fox #movie #vitaligo #beautiful

BTW got Domino her name from her look. She litterally lookes like a domino tile with the black spot on pale white/light grey skin. You would think that look is integral for the character then. This is just dissapointing. Same goes for the outfit.

Now that being said. Zazie is F'in hot. Good god, Lemon!

Complaining about people being disappointed it doesn't look like the comic character isn't any better, either you like it or you don't. Eventually it will die down and people will either like the character in the movie for the acting/characterization or they won't. It's all subjective, no point in bashing people for "overreacting" or "whining", they are just commenting on what they think about it, having an opinion on the look, that's all it is.

Thanks. I think the actress will be perfect acting wise. I don't care that she isn't Caucasian. Just get the look right ! Jeez Louise. Is it so hard to at least get her eye patch black at the very least? I don't even care about the hair as much. Just the eye patch mostly and secondly the skin needing to be white and thirdly the hair lol. Whatever. I'm watching it day one anyway. But still quite disappointed

^ That was my first thought. This is more accurate to dominoes.

Thing is fewer people would mind the sleeveless outfit and the sexualized image.... If only they got the skin/hair right.

You're right. I do think people would complain less about the costumes if they cast a white actress. But that's on those people.

Doing a google search i think black spots on white are the most common dominos, but there are white dots on black ones that exist too.

But Zazie's skin isn't literally black. You can see that, right? So to me it's not clever at all. That tile is literally black, that is different. Now, her comic counterpart does literally have that white skin. Then the name makes sense. Zazie is only half black too if im not mistaken.

if your skin isnt #000000, youre not black

if your skin isnt #ffffff, youre not white

Does it need to be? She's black and she has a white spot on her skin. The name still works

It doesn't have to be black for the point to (perfectly) come across. I could see mean kids calling an Afro-American girl "Domino" if she had a white spot over her eye. That's the whole point of the iconography. That the one spot makes her look like a Domino. And to me it makes more sense to have her spot being white (because she resembles a black domino tile).

I'm venturing into risky territory, but I'm convinced that if a white actress had gotten the role, and they simply had put black make-up around her eye, without her being even chalke-white in a joker-esque way, the same people who are complaing now wouldn't as much.

:hehe:

Don't know why I didn't just answer like that. Short, sweet, on point.

No it doesn't need to be because the character has white/ light grey skin. So you could get any actress from any race and give her that white/light grey skincolor. And i'm not saying you only count as black when your skin is really dark. I'm black myself, that has nothing to do with it. I just find it annoying that they changed one of the most recognizable aspects of her character.

But hey, you know what. Let's make Beast green, Nightcrawler pink and the Hulk black as night with purple dots. Who cares, right?

From the sound of it in those quotes from make-up artist Bill Corso they just wanted to make her look as good as possible rather than worrying too much about accuracy.

For all we know they probably tried the white skin colour and just didn't like it.

He pretty much confirms that they tried every possible variation and went with the best looking one.

Sometimes people forget that movies and directors have a certain visual style, and that choices are made within that context.

Well Im black as well and I grew up hearing names such as zebra, oreo to describe us and it was used in a figurative sense, not bc someone was literally black and white. The most recognizable aspect of the character is still there; its just tweaked. I wish they had gone with a more visually accurate portrayal but IMO, complaining about that in relation to her name, is silly bc it still fits. Domino is also a game of luck and her powers involve tweaking that in her favor, so it works on another level as well.

The minute she was cast as Domino, it wasnt likely they were going with white skin bc that would have been a mess for a variety of reasons

You people are really silly to think they were going to cast an African-American actress then cover her head to toe in white makeup. You know how much of a sh**storm that would have caused?

Just say you didn't want a black actress playing the role then **** and move on.

I just want to make one thing clear: I'm okay with people prefering a more literal translation of the comic book counterpart. If you don't like this version, that's fine.

What I'm not okay with is twisting things around to make a point.
Like her look in relation to her name... it still makes sense.
Or the fact that she doesn't wear a black catsuit... that's not the only look in the comics.

You can express your dislike for this look without overlooking the fact that some of the changes do make sense for the character, or that other aspects of the look ARE faithful to her long comic book history (such as the colors of the suit and the fact that it has no sleeves*).

And her hair? You may not like it, you may have prefered her short hair, but the character has had so many different hairstyles in the comics that adding an afro to that list sure won't betray her character.

And this is coming from someone who's still got original prints of the X-Force comics from the 1990s at home.

*BTW, here's another 'no sleeves' look from the comics (by Brian Steelfreeze):

It's 2017, if you still don't understand the problem with people doing Blackface than you just don't care at this point.

Heck, that cosplay wasn't even blackface. She was cosplaying a Mexican and basically gave herself a tan to faithfully portray the character.

At this point, I honestly wouldn't be surprised if people who got a tan at the beach, will be accused of being racist.

Eh, I don't see how it would've been a poopstorm. It's not the same as if they'd cast a black actress for say Captain Marvel and then covered her in caucasian make up. The character has chalk white skin. To me it would've been no different than Zoe Saldana being painted green.

Blackface involves darkening skin to an extreme degree for the sole purpose of mockery. I can understand folks being sensitive about cross race cosplay, but we're not talking about a minstrel show here.

Other than the eye patch (Which should be black!), I am totally fine with Ms. Beetz in the role. But the first movie got lots and lots of (deserved) praise for the comic book accurate appearances of Deadpool, Colossus and Negasonic Teenage New Mutant. It's entirely reasonable to criticize costumes that some feel fall short of the first film.
