Zelda

My new mission is to defeat the awesome temple of ordeals and figure out a way to get Link into the pants of the Fairy Goddess... those are my criteria for this game to be a true 10/10!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO EXCEPTIONS! :cmad:

:cmad:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What am I ignoring?

I did the Cave of Ordeals. I couldn't believe how utterly pointless it was. What was the point of it? Regardless, the challenge itself was fun... I always like those kind of things in Zelda games... and it was a chance for some REAL combat and protective skills... even though I beat it in my first attempt. :o I was fortunate to be fully equipped before I entered though.

Anyway, 68 hours later, and I can put this one to rest. I did a LOT of side missions, and I think played and won every game. I explored quite a bit, and got all but two complete hearts (or 10 heart pieces). I managed to find all the bugs sans a guide, and I found 41/60 poes... so the game has a solid 65+ hours of gameplay for anyone who is playing as an explorer.

The final boss battle was really nice. The final part of it is something I always wanted to see in a Zelda game... and finally it came to fruition (kinda). All the Boss battles were really well done... if I had a problem with any I think it was the Water temple one... coulda done without it... yet, it still provided variety.

The game is just stunning. It did what it set out to do: surpass Ocarina of Time in every aspect. Unfortunately, it did EXACTLY that and left itself still vunerable to attack. Why? Because Ocarina followed no other pattern, maybe with the exception of LttP (which is why there's sometimes a battle as to which was better).

Twilight Princess was indeed better in every specific aspect. The side missions were bigger, better and bolder. The story was bigger, better and bolder. The music was bigger, better and bolder. The non-playable characters were bigger, better and bolder. The field; the towns; the visuals; the gameplay... everything by itself was bigger, better and bolder... yet magic isn't something you can either replicate or outdo... it just happens. So for those who will and always proclaim LttP as being the game that had the "magic", that will not change here. Same with OoT... it will not change here. And to those playing Zelda for the first time, they will not be able to look back 8 years or 15 years to see either of those games as being the best, but Twilight Princess will be the one that had the magic.

Don't get me wrong, this is just a fantastic game... but it'd be better if it didn't try to compete with past titles and stuck with its' own mission. But I have to say, I was really anticipating a great title and I was STILL impressed. This is without a doubt Aunoma's best entry... and I adored WW, and thought MM was pretty good.

A few things I think work in his favor as a director: he's extremely innovative... he's always looking for new ways to recreate something. He loves darker stories... and he tells them well. He LOVES non-playable characters, which to me has been one of the biggest staples in any Zelda game... and he understands the series well enough to take it in new directions without betraying the feel of Zelda... despite this being the first game that's stuck so closely to 'old Hyrule'.

If he has a flaw though (that I've noticed all three times now), it's that he seems to love giving you things that really go nowhere. (Did anybody else use the psychic?) Or underusing dungeon treasure items/weapons. We got so many, and underused most of them... some of them only had a one time purpose, and absolutely no use outside of the dungeon. Regardless, the whole thing was impressive, and I love the scale of this Hyrule. I hope it only increases... but with purpose.

Great, great game! On a scale of 1 - 10, I'd say 9.8

Like I said, a few minor flaws that keep it being perfection, but in the end, it's Zelda. The end credits actually had me smiling... especially the build up towards the last moments when they start to focus back on Ordon villiage, and the music strums up right on cue. Link felt so iconic at that point. You really bought him as a hero like no other.

But for now I'm gonna put this one to rest. I'll probably pick it back up in a few months so I'll be desperate to play it again by that point.

I completed Ocarina of Time again tonight. Excellent game. I have some questions about continuity.

At the end of the game, we can see Link go to the place where he first met Zelda. Zelda turns around and seems sorta surprised. Did Link go back to their first meeting?!?? I assumed he was gonna stay out of the way for 7 years, then come back once peace was returned to Hyrule. So what happened there between him and Zelda? And Majoras Mask, Link goes off to look for Navi, right? I never beat Majoras Mask. I assume Link at the end of that game finds Navi... does he then return to Hyrule? Is Majoras Mask the last adventure of the hero of time? Do we know what became of him?

It's always assumed Link is looking for Navi, but never confirmed. You don't see who his search was after, and you merely see Link leave on his journey after MM. Great game though, you should finish it.

They really don't explain on that. It's really up to speculation. Personally I think that Link popped up slightly before Ganondorf went into a chase frenzy with Zelda and Impa, developed a full friendship with Zelda and Malon, received the Ocarina of Time...somehow, and convince Malon to let him use Epona (but return her in time so that his adult version can use her). Doing his own thing, staying behind the scenes for 7 or even more years.

In the Majora's Mask manga it states that Link was looking for Navi. He returns to Hyrule after his adventure in Termina continuing his search for Navi. He never finds her in the game and we don't know if he ever did find her because Majora's Mask was the last game of the Hero of Time.

The old post count was deleted. How have you not figured that out? Canadians...... :o

I picked up the Wii at the launch last night at 12... I have finally had a chance to play Zelda properly (not just fishing... even though I love it :( ).

Its great so far... I am glad I dont have to struggle with the controls at the start since I have been playing the Wii a few times a week for a month now anyway.

Oh and all games should let you save whenever you want, like ZELDA.

Saving whenever you like makes a game too easy. But the system suits Zelda.

So I'm at the mansion right now and I gotta say, this game has passed my expectations by a huge margin.

The Sky Temple is awesome...the double hookshot makes me seem like spidey. lol. One thing that I get dissappointed in though...now that I can teleport ...I hardly ever use Epona. oh well

The Sky Temple Boss is soooooo fun. The temples in this game have had some fantastic puzzles.

I just beat the Forrest Temple... Damn I love this game.

Would you like a game continuing the adventures of the Hero of Time?

Yes I would, they really didn't get to finish his story IMO. Like did Link ever find Navi? What has his grown up self done after the events of Ocarina of Time have ended? We got to see how his Young Link dealt with the 7 year gap (adventures in Termina and looking for Navi) but whaat about Adult Link?

Though I'd rather see a game featuring the flooding of Hyrule and a game set after the events of the Adventure of Link more. I think the DS would be perfect for an adult Hero of Time game.

The Bosses are real fun...but so short and a tad too easy. I like the Sand temple boss the most....because of that whole suprise aspect to it.

I didn't like the Ice Temple boss much...That one was the least appealing.

Anyway...I'd like to see a Zelda game....where you get to play as Link...AND Zelda for a change. Maybe even some co-op action like in Resident Evil 0. And after playing as Zelda in Smash Bros...I wanna play as her in a real game.

I was a bit dissappointed with the lack of Zelda in this game

I beat the game about an hour ago. It's freaking sweet. Ending is amazing.

It's not only dissapointing, it hurts the game. A big part of Zelda is about exploring the world to increase your health and capacity for items. However, the game telling you where to go the moment you finish something, the ability to warp, and Castle Town being very annoying to navigate mean that you end up ignoring a lot of the side-quests. Wind Waker had the same problem, but Wind Waker was short and dispite the fact that a lot of the map was just ocean it still gave you an incentive to explore the entire world with the search for the Triforce. TP has a much more detailed and varied map, is much longer than WW and yet there is much less incentive to explore. Furthermore, the horseback combat was amazing and seperated this game from other games in the series, but it ends by the third temple and the game starts to feel a bit too close to an OoT clone. The game is a great game, the best thing I've played since RE4, but I can't help but feel the narrative structure and the level of dificullty are holding it back from being as good as it could have been.

I think it's because of the fountain in the center, but it was harder to find shops since you can't look around in first person view. I didn't find the the look out tower or the bug girl until after the sixth temple. In fact, for most of the game, the only place I really knew existed was the bar. Somehow OoT's Castle Town was easier to navigate.

Okay, big question for those who beat the game:

I am in Kakariko Village getting ready to head to Death Mountain. So far, I have not heard the "traditional" Zelda theme...the one that his heard in most of the games usually the Overworld theme.

Is that theme in the game? They tend to update it as each game goes through but ultimately, it is always recognizable as the main theme for Zelda.

Thanks for your help in this matter...

I never paid attention but when you roam around Hyrule Field, I think you'll hear it.
