⚾ The MLB Thread

I'll say it again.....I'm sick of major league umpires being unable to accurately call balls and strikes. Take that part of the game away from them. Let the players decide the game and give the pitchers and hitters a break.

Dude. I love Clase (and Evil Empire fan that I am, I've been hoping Yankees sign him one day) but my goodness he's had a terrible postseason. How many blown saves or late runs has he given up at this point? Is he just fatigued from overuse at this point?
3 postseason blown saves and 8 runs

But then, all of the MLB umpires would be out of a job. :o

To quote William Shakespeare, "Fair is foul and foul is fair" (The three witches in "Macbeth").

Safe.....out......fair.....foul......replay booth.....(Bill said it better, but I try).

Your empire isn't as evil as the one in Dallas....I don't think....well, maybe..... :funny:

I really enjoyed going to the stadium when I was in NY. Y'know, I think people in the city get a bad rap. People talk about rude NY'ers, but when I was there, people were super helpful when I had questions and took a lot of time to help me out.....of course, they'll talk your ear off too.....LOL

I almost always root for the underdog.....even to the extent that I'm cool with the Mets winning their series against the Dodgers, but after seeing Cleveland giving up a 2 run blast to Stanton, I'm kinda feeling like they don't really deserve to win this series. That was one of the stupidest pitches I've seen thrown in a very, very long time.

That home run was a kick to the balls. He was pitching such a great game up to that point too. Essentially perfect. I cannot be too mad at him really. But the fact it's tied now sucks

It was either a stupid pitch or a mistake. You don't throw that 3-2 to Stanton when you can essentially get by him and dig down in the order.

Either way, he overall pitched a great game. Just sucks he couldn't get that last out and it ended up tied. Not much ya can do but hope they can shut em down the rest of the game

That's the series

Took us 15 years but yet again THE YANKS ARE GOING TO THE FRIGGIN WORLD SERIES!!

I’m so going to a damn game.

Awesome! Hope you get to see a win in the game you go to.

Stanton getting ALCS MVP is well deserved. And dude I'm just glad Judge gets to play in a World Series.

I didn't think the Guardians would make it. Congrats to the Yankees.

Giancarlo Stanton has the best at-bats to home run ratio of anyone in MLB playoff history.

I don't like the pitching matchup for the Dodgers today....of course, I didn't like it for the Mets on Friday......so there's that.....

Really admired what the Mets did this year and I couldn't bring myself to root against them, even though I grew up a Dodgers fan in LA. Bottom line is that the Mets didn't come up with many base hits in big situations with runners in scoring position. Way too many times they left people on when there were no, one, or two outs. A little credit to the Dodgers pitchers and maybe a little debit to clutch hitting.

I've been saying it, but I just don't like the Dodgers' chances with that bullpen game. They're going to need Buehler to step up and Flaherty looked like he had arm fatigue and lost his fastball in game 5. He was throwing under 92 and should have been in the mid 90s.

Dodgers offense scares me. No idea how this series is gonna go. On one hand I see the Dodgers offense killing the Yankees but on the other, the Yankees possibly capitalizing on Dodgers pitching. But Dodgers did shut out Padres and Mets 4 times sooo yeah.

Dodgers-Yankees gonna do big business though.

Yeah.....the MLB front office is loving this S***. If the Dodgers manage to win this without Glasnow, Stone, Gonsolin, May, Kershaw (who might be done), and Graterol, it'll be that bullpen, but then they lost Vesia. Basically, they've had to just overpower people with their offense, but the Yanks are pretty damn nasty themselves.

Both teams really grind on pitchers.....probably the Dodgers a little more than NY, but both force you.to make good pitches. If not for the pitching injuries, LA seems to be so much better than everyone else, but, hey, they have those injuries. With even one more solid starter, they would have to be a prohibitive favorite. To me, Buehler is the key. If he can have a solid start or two, it'll be tough to beat the Dodgers. The "if", however, is a big one.

So what you're saying is, the Yankees will win it in 4 or 5 games?

Not exactly but nice try. :funny: Both teams will have a chance to reset their pitching staff and you never know what you're going to get. After a really nice outing, Flaherty lost 3 or 4 mph off his fastball in his last start and gives up a lot of HRs anyway. Buehler has come around recently, but it far from a sure thing. The Dodgers are basically gong with their 2, 4, and 5 starters as their 1-3 (and that's even if you don't count Gonsolin and May). I don't know of any other team that could do that and have any hope of winning. I see it going 6 or 7 and kind of a toss up. They could probably play 7 10 times and pretty much split. The Yanks will kill you with the top of their order and the Dodgers are really tough 1-9.

Barring injuries, next year, the Dodgers will have Ohtani, Glasnow, and Yamamoto at the top of their rotation and will have Flaherty, Buehler, Kershaw, May, and Gonsolin to fill it out. It looks like their #3, Gavin Stone, who would have been their 4th starter, will be out for 2025.

I'm so proud of the Mets leading into the season hacks. Haters expressed that this team wouldn't contend, declaring we couldn't win with this core and that we should blow up the team after beginning 0-5 to start the year to falling short like my beloved NY Rangers this year in game 6 six and six wins away from winning it all our MVP and our gold glover Lindor needs to be anointed captain this team was so fun it's bittersweet were going to lose some pieces in free agency I wanted to beat LA because we got snubbed by Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Shohei Ohtani there's still time to do that because they signed their lives away to la and, we will get our payback we are going to get if we want them Juan Soto and Corbin Burnes boras clients Steve Cohen is the wealthiest owner in MLB he will spend this off-season we were in year four in the five-year championship window David Stern's kept his word and put a competitive team he deserves a lifetime contract!

Mets pending free agents this offseason:
- 1B Pete Alonso
- LHP Sean Manaea ($13.5M player option)
- RHP Luis Severino
- LHP Jose Quintana
- RHP Ryne Stanek
- OF Jesse Winker
- INF Jose Iglesias
- RHP Phil Maton ($7.75M club option)
- DH JD Martinez
- OF Harrison Bader
- RHP Adam Ottavino
- LHP Brooks Raley
- RHP Drew Smith
Starling Marte (1 yr/$20.75M) and Jeff McNeil (2 yrs/$33.5M) are two players who could be on the trade block.

I don't think it's a stretch to say there's going to be a lot of turnover in NY. Free agency is a part of building a championship ball club, but the farm system needs to be top notch. At some point, I think the Mets are going to have to pass on some of those big contracts. The Mets are a good drawing team and they certainly have the revenue.

Man, I had no idea they had that many free agents. Whew.....that's tough.

Imagine if the Mets trade us Lindor back lol! Guardians could use a few of them bats

The Mets have a top farm system! And hundreds of millions of dollars off the books to sign the following players! The Polar Bears' time with the Mets is likely over the slide mark to first base—Acuna at second. Ronnie Mauricio at third. Sterns needs some pieces in the bullpen, the rotation, and the lineup! I hope both teams lose the World Series, but I'd prefer to see the Yanks win over the Dodgers. I'm not going to tune in. Joe Davis had me feeling like I was watching a Dodger broadcast, not a playoff game in October. He is very condescending and irritating. He lacks the professionalism of Gary Cohen, Howie Rose, or even Vin Scully. God rest his soul.

Offseason-needs
Juan Soto
Sean Manaea
Luis Severino
Max Fried
Corbin Burnes
Tanner Scott
Chris Martin
Tyler O'Neill
