🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

Russia aren't going to want to invade Finland. The Finnish are very adept at guerrilla warfare in their local terrain.

Losing so many men would be a big deal in most countries but for Russia it is just more meat for the grinder. I'm always blown away by the complete disregard for the life of their own citizens in Russia.

I guess that disregard comes in handy when you are at war. Sick......

Meanwhile, in another corner of the Multiverse:

Its easy to forget about Dubya and Vova's bromance.

Certainly makes things for the rest of europe a bit safer considering both countries have a good military, which not everyone has...Looking at you Germany. XD

I wonder which story Russia will tell the people on that, how two for years neutral countries have been tricked by the Evil USA into bending their knee.

I definitly like this because i have a soft spot for Sweden for a long time, not just because of your Women...i like the country in general.
So it feels weirdly like we become closer.
I guess Finland is cool too, im more a sweden fan however. XD

As i said before, smaller countries rely to a great deal on Russias Ressources...on which you can blame countries like mine who were too lazy to invest in anything else and became a fine example on how to blindly rely on a country.
If we wouldnt have been so overly trustworthy in Russia, i think the smaller countries wouldnt have done the same.

Now we all scramble to get rid of a reliance we should never had have in the first place.
****ing clowns all over the world, relying on Oil and Gas instead of spending time and money to move on from that.

I'm not a military expert, but I don't see any reason to "bolster" Finland or Sweden militarily and don't think the senate should take the step of agreeing to defend either country if attacked before the ratification is complete. Russia is in no position to attack Finland at this point in time and won't be ready in the next year. Even if they tried to open another front (which would be incredibly stupid), I think they would get their asses handed to them. They're basically bogged down in Ukraine and, if reports are true, their military has been degraded.

I would prefer the US scale back military spending and use some of that to help bolster non-military sectors (and our own); which would have the net effect of allowing Sweden and Finland to upgrade their own defenses.

I think allowing the NATO membership process to run its course in a normal fashion is the most non-confrontational way of moving forward in this situation.

Like I said, I'm not a military expert. What do others think? Any pushback?

A bit more reasonable estimation of that river catastrophe from last week.

We've (Finland and Sweden) pretty much gotten promises of security from theUS and several other countries. At least from our Nordic neighbors:

Fælles udtalelse om sikkerhedsforsikringer til Finland og Sverige

Finland and Sweden’s security is a matter of common concern to us all. Should Finland or Sweden be victim of aggression on their territory before obtaining NATO membership, we will assist Finland and Sweden by all means necessary.
