🇷🇺🇺🇦 Discussion: Relations with Russia and the war in Ukraine

Soooooooo,,,,,,,Ukraine is responsible for this whole mess because they didn't negotiate with him? There's nothing wrong with negotiating trade and so forth, but if a neighbor is trying to take over your country, what's to negotiate? That's why I gave the examples I did......neighboring countries. Putin evidently has the right to tell another country what they can and can't do? Ukraine wasn't marching on Moscow.
No, Ukraine and Ukrainians are not responsible, they're just the latest in a long line of countries (Iraq, Vietnam, etc) that has suffered due to Western interference and regime change operations.

Ukraine's people voted for Zelensky, by a 72% margin, when he ran on a platform of peace. That's what the people of Ukraine wanted: peace and coexistence with both Russia and the West.

But because the country's government is run by the West, he was coopted, he did things like shell the civilian populations in Donetsk and Lugansk, and ban the Russian language.

So it's the West's fault Putin is invading Ukraine?
Evidently......Putin would have never attacked Crimea or the rest of Ukraine 2 years ago if only the US hadn't......uh.....

This is NOT your parents Vietnam or Iraq......they were attacked by the US. Talk about false equivalents.....

"We should concentrate on the more terrifying problem, a reality that exists independent of Trump’s imaginary ‘sir’ conversations: The leader of one of America’s two major political parties has just signaled to the Kremlin that if elected, he would not only refuse to defend Europe, but he would gladly support Vladimir Putin during World War III and even encourage him to do as he pleases to America’s allies,” Tom Nichols writes.

I'm not sure we can survive another term of Trump in office. :(

A second Trump term would be 40 times as scary and have much more dire consequences. Putin will have hit the jackpot if this happens.

He's going to win and we're all going to die. :waa:

The Western,-controlled Kiev regime was committing ethnic cleansing in the Donbass, and was preparing to invade Crimea. The US has also acknowledged that they were building bioweapons labs in the Ukraine.

Show a bit of empathy for the people who live in Crimea: they speak Russian, they're ethnically Russian, their faith is the Russian Orthodox Church, and they voted to remain part of Russia.

From a Western source:

A survey in May 2013, asked respondents what language they spoke at home:[30]
  • 82% Russian
  • 10% Crimean Tatar
  • 3% Russian and Ukrainian equally
  • 3% Russian and another language equally
  • 2% Ukrainian
Note that the proportion of people in the survey who gave their ethnicity as Ukrainian was 20%, Crimean Tatar 15%.[30]

Alternatively, listen to CNN ;-)

Well, Crimea certainly WAS invaded. I guess, given the circumstances, that was okay........

Hopefully he won't win. Hopefully there's still millions and millions of voters in this country that still like democracy and will vote for Biden.
I want to believe this, I do, but some days I get really scared.
