🏈 NFL - Game On

Or conversely, we will have young weapons ready when the right QB is available. I would rather they have a bunch of weapons than be like Tim Couch where we went "You're our guy, but you have no line and your best weapons are William Green and Kevin Johnson. Enjoy!"
Bruce Arians still says that Tim Couch is among the best QBs he has ever coached. He places him among Brady, Manning, and Big Ben. He says that he had no line, no running game and no receivers, so he just got hit all the time and got hurt.

It makes you wonder what could have been for some of these guys who go to bad teams. I have heard similar things from a guy I know who was on the practice squad for the Texans in early 2000’s who swears that David Carr is an all time great QB who was ruined on an expansion team, much like Couch.

Oh, with Tim Couch I can absolutely see it. Dude took the Browns to the playoffs with absolute scrubs and no offensive line! He is a poster boy for have the right pieces in place before you get the QB

Generally speaking, most early round QBs come into the league on crappy teams the a team get built around them. That's why they have the high draft pick. It's a doable situation (Aikman, Elway, and a host of others). Of course, you can have a good team and get lucky with a later pick. Each has worked. I think the problem the Browns have is that they aren't really a great organization. They've gotten some really good players, but just can't seem to get over the hump. It's easier to get a great player early in the draft, but I think teams get built around later picks.

I'm not really a Ram fan, but, living in LA, I know a fair amount about them and they have built a pretty nice team around later picks (and not really missing on early ones). They put a lot of resources into building a good O and D line as well as picking up some fine receivers (Kupp and Nacua) in the later rounds (3 and 5 IIRC). They've been pretty textbook the last few years on how to draft well and build a good organization, but I never thought for a minute that they win their division this year. They had a lot of injuries early, but when they got healthy, they took off.

It makes me think McVay should at least be in the conversation when it comes to coach of the year.

How's that for meandering aimlessly.......

And they wouldn't have gotten him if they had even a decent team. They were just unable to build around him. Some teams have pulled it off and some haven't.

Broncos fans are going to be drinking a lot this weekend because they know the Broncos Bills are a colossal mismatch, much like the 2012 Second Round Playoffs Broncos Patriots. The Bills bulldozing an outmatched Broncos team that was lucky to reach the Playoffs is the most likely outcome.

Even though Lamar Jackson doesn't have a winning record in the Playoffs, the Ravens have been flying high in the final 5 weeks of the NFL regular season while the Steelers have been in a slump exposed as fool's gold since most of the teams they defeated were bad before the long slump.
Watt is going to be made just a nuisance because the Raven's Offensive line opens areas as a result Henry has a successful day rushing,
Jackson succeeds as a game manager, and Jackson has an easy day throwing the football because of great blocking.
I don't see a slumping Steelers team outplaying the Ravens in Baltimore even though realistically they can keep it close.

The Chargers are a solid team that has made the Playoffs so it's very unsurprising it really isn't surprising he signed with that team.

The Cowboys missed the Playoffs with a losing record. If Jones decides to be sensible, he will swallow his pride and improve the Cowboys in the offseason because Parsons, Lamb, and other talented players can't remove the flaws the Cowboys have, much like great actors are not going to remove the stench of a poorly written movie script.

No, but they may have gotten another QB in a future year after they had better support pieces in place that may have lasted longer. It's a fine line with rookie QBs and this year in particular, I don't think these QBs have the talent to overcome having limited weapons.

The way I see it, either approach, with a little bit of luck, "can" work. I think the X factor is the organization. The Jags, for example, have had consistently great draft position and the best they've been about to come up with is a mediocre playoff team. Then you have those that are pretty consistently competitive. The difference seems to be coaching and front office. Too often, the owners screw things up and they're the only ones who don't get fired. :funny:

I would trust Stefanski with developing a later round QB cause outside of he has been able to find ways to win with subpar QBs. So he knows how to maximize people in a system. Now if he gets fired after next year or something, who knows. But I do know that the 1st/high pick QB method hasn't worked for us lol

That's one way it could work. SF had a really strong team and did well with a decent QB (Purdy) that wasn't a game changer, but didn't make a whole lot of mistakes.

FYI, I've checked a few sites that have the Titans going Sanders and the Browns going Ward with NY taking Hunter. Not to say that will be the case, but some people who know more than I do obviously think it's a strong possibility.

It's a possibility, but not one I think is wisest move

I expect the Giants to try and make a move. The Raiders doing the same is another possibility.
Which if you're the Browns sitting at 2, assuming Titans take Sanders, and now Ward is the only QB there worth a 1st rounders by most, that's when you take bids and acquire picks lol. Try and make up for some of those lost 1st rounders in the Watson deal

So, with Pierce's firing, does that mean that dope Mark Davis is going to be paying up to 4 different head coaches until 2028 :lmao:

What a nightmare.

With how terrible the Raiders have been in the last several years, that will probably be what happens.

A year late and a season short. Had they been able to land Harbaugh, I think they would have been looking at an entirely different season. I'm sure Matt is a good guy, but he and his staff seemed unable to make adjustments as the games went on.

Ownership blaming the players is a cop out. Ownership/management picked those players and sets the tone with THEIR decisions. Sure, you might have a few problem players (but you still picked them), but these guys are by nature generally take a lot of pride in their performance and, given the right situation, will do everything they can to perform at a high level. The problem with teams starts at the top and flows down from there.

Seems that they want to have a more cohesive GM/HC next go around. So far the Raiders have requested interviews for: Ben Johnson (Lions OC), Pete Carrol, Todd Monken (Ravens OC), Steve Spagnuolo (Chiefs DC), Aaron Glenn (Lions DC)

Expected to have interest in Mike Vrabel.

-I like almost all these names, at least on paper lol.
