If that were the case I'd forgive this being an add on Cloverfield sequel (if it's true).

Star Wars VIII: A court drama in Vespin.
Die Hard 6: a Rom-Com about Willis falling in love with the nurse healing his injuries.
The Incredibles 2: A day in the life of Edna Mode. (This one I would actually watch)

Oh God, I could actually see that becoming a thing. Parody Bad Robot produced posters. :funny:

Had no idea this was happening. Thought it was a joke or some parody at first. Damn.

I hope that the song is the main clue to what's outside the bunker: Giovanni Ribisi's character from Ted dancing the hell out of I think we're alone now.

I still don't know how to react to the fact that this is coming out they did an excellent job keeping it hush hush.

My thoughts exactly. I can't believe no one heard about this. Especially in the digital age...it's practically impossible to keep things a secret unless you're working with the right crew.

I commend them on that feat.

I'm skeptical about this. While I know not many people enjoyed it, I liked the first person view of it. It was kind of different in a way. Mainly because, aside from a few other films, no one really did it. Blair Witch tried to be more documentary...this one made you feel part of the experience/you were witnessing these events alongside the characters.

I'm hoping there is more to the film than just what is shown. (Taking place entirely in a bunker/fallout shelter). I have high hopes for this.

I'll be more impressed when we find out just how directly related to cloverfield it is.

If it was intended from the start, then yeah its quite an impressive feat.

Disappointing if true....kinda suspected it could be a ploy to get people in seats....does not say anything however about how good the film may be, the actors, and the story.

I distinctly remember Abrams wanting to expand on the Cloverfield world, but not necessarily with "Clover" the monster or anything else. Like, other weird goings-on in that world. And that's an exciting prospect. No secrets X-Files shiz, but worldly events that are crazy and constant. Giant monster mushes NYC, check. Zombies? Overdone...? Something viral? Radioactive fallout from nuking "Clover"? Aliens? Though I remember I originally thought "Clover" was an alien, but no, it was a satellite falling that awoke a baby or something. Which raises the question that he's a baby and so there's a mother, maybe a father, and possibly more babies? Rampage throughout the world? So many possibilities that I didn't even list.

Though I will admit that I thought Abrams wanted more found-footage type of world, I'm fine with that trailer. I don't want to know what's going on. I'm going in it Cabin in the Woods style. I don't want to know. But I'm seeing it.

Yep. Sounds about right. I think there will be a lot of backlash on JJ for this one. He will become the face of this, from a publicity perspective. He will do what he always does, play coy when asked about the connection to Cloverfield, refuse to confirm or deny anything while basically winking at the camera. Then when this movie has next to nothing to do with Cloverfield, fans will be pissed and it will fall on him. His over the top secrecy bit him in the ass with Into Darkness. It'll probably happen again.

The secret surrounding Into Darkness only bit Abrams in the ass when the twist that Cumberbatch was actually playing Khan was leaked very early on in production and he and everyone working on the move went well out of their way to DENY that he was. To the point where a later scene that takes place after the Khan revelation was shot twice with the fake "John Harrison" name instead of Khan's JUST so they could so the alternate cut at CinemaCon. It was ludicrous.

Precisely though. Abrams wants secrets but at the same time he loves attention. I've never seen a director who so badly wants to be in front of the camera. When the Khan identity leaked, he should've just avoided interviews and kept his mouth shut. But that meant not being in front of the media and cameras. So instead he went out of his way to deny it to a ridiculous degree.

He does the same thing with all of his movies. He wants to be the face of the movie but at the same time he does not want to say anything. He wants to be on camera, giving interviews, but he doesn't want to answer questions. It is bizarre.

He will undoubtedly put himself in front of the camera to promote this movie. Especially since he is the only member of the Cloverfield creative team to have any connection to this film. He will be asked about the connection to Cloverfield and he will say nothing, all while sort of winking at the camera, implying there is more. That's his schtick. It is playing with fire in a big way here though since the reports indicate that this was a completely separate movie that is being clumsily modified to be a Cloverfield sequel (sort of?) in post-production. This has all kinds of potential to bite Abrams square in the ass.

My point is this: if this is, in fact, an attempt to make Cloverfield an anthology series (for example, if it is a Halloween 3), Abrams needs to be upfront about it. Stop saying things like "it is a blood relative" and instead just directly say "this isn't a continuation of Cloverfield." But that doesn't attract attention, that doesn't build hype, so he won't do that. And it will backfire.

I don't think so. He doesn't owe stuff to people. Why do people NEED to know these things? Just go to the theater and enjoy the frickin' movie. I don't get all the hate for someone who's trying to keep some surprises. If you were a Star Trek fan and looking forward to Into Darkness, what the hell does it change wether or not he revealed that Cumberbatch was Khan!?!? It doesn't affect the final product in any way. It's as if fans want directors to seek approval pre-release. I don't really get that mindset.

And how did he get bit in the ass, exactly? By Star Trek Into Darkness outgrossing the first one worldwide? Or by getting the chance to direct the latest record-breaking blockbuster? Let him do his shtick. Dude's smart.

After reading the script, I can honestly say you can see where he probably went back and said "oh, lets just connect Cloverfield to it." I don't think this was something planned but rather he leapt at a good opportunity to get the film a little more cash when it hits theaters.

I think you're overreacting Matt, jeez. From your post it almost seems like you dislike Abrams and want to see this bite him in the ass for your enjoyment. Maybe not but it kind of comes off that way.

I did not like Cloverfield. Didn't hate it...I watched it, it ended, I shrugged, and didn't think about the movie again. I LOVE this trailer. It makes me really, REALLY excited about a pseudo-sequel to a movie I didn't like. This is now in my top 5 most anticipated movies of 2016.

My assumption about this is that it is taking place during and after the first Cloverfield. Maybe the "victims" get placed in the cellar during the monster's attack...and then the feds nuke the monster or whatever and it isn't safe to go outside. There is no need to ever show the monster.

Major props to them for keeping this a secret. I absolutely hate how we are fed so much info about movies that I feel like I've already seen it and gotten bored with it by the time it actually comes out. The 2 years of hype, set photos, clips etc are just overkill...if I care about the basic idea of a movie then they will get my money...no need to show me 20 minutes of the film. I don't want another trailer for this film. In one day, 2 months before release, they have already done what they need to do to get me in that theater.

Did you like the script?

Did you like the script?

Yeah. It was a really intense read. John Goodman's character was amazing. The whole back and forth of trying to figure out if he's a good guy or not is done well. I think it's an early copy of the script though. While there was a good number of scenes from the trailer, stuff like the jukebox, them playing Life, and the hazmat container wasn't put in.

Ppl are still arguing about whether this is tied to cloverfield or not?

The internet is funny. Guess what ppl no one cared that jj lied about khan like really only he internet cared.

No one knew this movie was happening so no one can get mad about it. It's like having an attractive person want to hook up with you but you didn't like the time in bed together so you hate that person rather than just be happy someone cared enough to sleep with you in the first place

Have there been any Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt parodies yet?

That is a good theory. I don't think it's right but it is a good fit to the trailer.

This theory equally makes a lot of sense and shows just how much story can be made from so little information.

If this does turn out to be Halloween 3 though then I agree this "blood relative," it's connected claim needs to be dropped and they just straight out tell us it is an anthology series and that Clover and/or the parasites will not feature prominently or at all in the movie.

There is building interest and suspense, avoiding spoilers then there is telling your audience nothing, or worse lying to them and giving them an apple when they wanted oranges.
