I'm a cop. Myself and 4 other officers are sitting at the Regal movie theater inside our city in our marked cruisers (one of the cops is inside the theater right now)... just to ease fears for anyone going to the movies. It's pretty packed. The parking lot is very full (I pass by this parking lot all the time at work so I know when a popular movie is out just by how full it is)... so I'm glad people are not afraid... because the suspect IS a terrorist, by definition, doesn't matter if he's foreign or not.

That said, though, I have to express my extreme annoyance at the overbearing coverage of this tragedy by the news networks. When something this horrible happens, it's not necessary to report on every....single.....new detail that emerges. "This just in, we wish to report that the suspect in the shooting is believed to have eaten a double cheeseburger at THIS McDonalds in the week prior to the shooting. More to come...."

The booby-trapped apartment of mass shooting suspect James Eagan Holmes was "designed to kill," officials said Saturday as they described a complex operation to disarm sophisticated explosives without destroying evidence.

"This was certainly challenging," said FBI agent Jim Yacone, detailingthe discovery of the explosive devices and the use of a robot to disarm a trip wire and a primary bomb.

"The threat has not been completely eliminated," Yacone said, while adding that enough progress had been made that "an extensive amount of evidence is in the process of being collected."

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oates told reporters that he believed the rigged apartment targeted the police. “We sure as hell are angry,” he said.

"This apartment was designed to kill whoever entered it," he said. "Make no mistake about it."

I found out today that two people in my area (Illinois, one from my town and another from a nearby town) were in the theater that was attacked. Both are servicemen and one is unaccounted for.

I hope they are found safe and accounted for.

i posted earlier that i found out one of the people shot was a friend of a good friend. I don't know him, but still. Fortunately he's alive, and seemingly doing well. I hope the same for these people you mentioned as well.

I hope the cops scour every single bit of that place twice over, from the alarm clock to the TV remote. And especially the computer case. This dude was calculated considering the amount of booby traps in his place, he could have wired the PC tower to blow since the hard drive is the first piece of evidence the cops go for.

Lock him away in solitary confinement with nothing but a **** pail for the rest of his miserable days. If not his own life, this future-patron-of-hell forfeit his right to see sunlight ever again.

All explosives have been eliminated in the booby-trapped apartment of the suspect in a deadly shooting spree at an Aurora, Colo., movie theater, and no authorities were injured in the process.

Holmes' apartment was loaded with explosives and authorities say they will not know for sure what is inside until they enter and test results come back from an FBI lab. A robot was sent in to disarm and diffuse the major threats as well as remove evidence.

"There are still unknowns, we're not exactly sure of everything that's in there" Sgt. Carlson said. The unknown includes jars that are believed to contain accelerates. Authorities say there are balloons filled with gun powder and bullets littered throughout the floor.

My theory is that the guy is a lonely idiot. Its possibly someone whose plan to be someone important did not work out and took his only chance to get attention/fame by doing something gruesome in front of the world. He feels he is extremely inteligent and shares that level of "hypersanity| that the joker had.

He is going to try and plead insanity but the press conference clarified that this was a premeditated scheme that took months to put together to get suplies, design the plan and engineer the booby traps so I dont think hes going to get away with that.

It seems as if the apartment bomb with the timer was a way to buy himself time. He was unrecognizable during the shooting and changed his appearance. It is very possible this idiot was thinking that he was going to get away with this and then continue in some sort of shooting spree. He was just moronic enough to let his whole plan rely on someone opening a door.

There's already the... I think Texas politician? who has been trying to use this as a pro-gun platform, and New York's mayor Bloomberg responded by using it as a pro-gun control platform.
