Anyone who thinks people should bring guns to a theater are just as dumb as the shooter.

You need a concealed carry permit which requires a gun safety class , a medical and psychological background check, and a sherrifs approval to obtain in my state. Even with a permit you are not supppssed to carry in bars, on federal government property, and at public gatherings such as concerts and the like. You also cant carry when you are consuming alcohol. Under most circumstances i dont see the need to carry in a theater. But if a citizen who has done the safety class, passed the evaluation, and been approved by local law enforcenent to have the permit wants to carry a small handgun i see nothing wrong with it. Theyve followed the law and process so im going to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Once again, the more you know about guns and gun laws the less you need to fear.

I dont know if this has been said but an AR-15 is NOT an assault rifle. An assault rifle is defined as a selective fire weapon that is a weapon that has a mechanism built in for switching between semi and fully automatic. The AR-15 is a civillian model that does not have selective fire and is ONLY semi-automatic. They fire the .223 calibre bullet which is civillian legal and fired by many different rifles. The AR15 offers civilians an effective and multi-purpose round in an easier to maintain gun. They have very little recoil. They also have a versatile rail system. This all makes them extremely popular. They are great for hunting and can be used for self defense. Ill say again the AR-15 is NOT an assault rifle. It is a civillian model of the military's M4 and M16 and is only semi-automatic only. The military version is the assault rifle. If he was using the military version with selective fire the media and police need to use it proper name. If he was using the AR-15 then they need to stop calling it an assault rifle. The media and police are not helping with gun confusion.

So what's the difference, they still burst out a hell of an amount of bullets in a few seconds, thus making it a perfect killing tool for any deranged individual. That's my point,.

Anyone can be or become a murdering psychopath in a blink of an eye. The less people carrying arms (whatever gun it may be), the better.

I was not reading this discussion but... Why Americans love guns so much? S**** like 'I need them because I must protect myself' are so stupid. I don't live in the nicest city in the nicest country but I feel safe here and I don't have any guns. Almost nobody have guns here because people can't afford them. They have real problems and don't live in some paranoid atmosphere, to be honest. Sorry... but I just can't understand this.

The difference is they shoot one round per trigger pull same as a lever action and bolt action rifle whereas an assault rifle shoots a whole magazine in one trigger pull. Seriously how are people this clueless about gun mechanics?

Do you honestly think some thug criminal gives a **** about gun laws? You take guns away and the only ones besides law enforcement who have guns will be the criminals. So, your next statement will be to call 911. It can take two minutes or more for a police officer to show up. A lot can happen in two minutes.

So once again people want to blame the item used and not the person. If he would have went in with a chainsaw and started gutting people that way are we going to blame Black and Decker?

blaming guns is a cop out. You take guns away and people will just find the next thing to go on sprees with.

Especially with all the FPS out. I know way too much about guns for my liking.

Fear of guns comes from the majority of this countries ignorance about them. We are one of the few countries where we have the legal right to bear arms and yet nowhere in our public education system do we ever teach people how to responsibly or properly use them. It's like giving a child a pack of matches without explaining fire.

If we were more supportive of our constitutional right to bear arms and people weren't so afraid of them due to their ignorance the society we live in would be much MUCH different. Just because you are allowed to bear arms doesn't mean you have to, but just because you don't want to bear arms doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to.

Rights work both ways, as does freedom.

Tell that to this chick.

She (Suzanna Hupp) had left her gun in her car to comply with Texas state law at the time, which prohibited carrying a concealed weapon. When George Hennard drove his truck into the cafeteria and opened fire on the patrons, Hupp instinctively reached into her purse for her weapon, but it was in her vehicle.

So because the law said she couldn't carry a weapon, and she followed the law, one of those murdering psychopaths wound up killing a bunch of people, including her parents. Outlawing guns entirely or whatever other drastic gun control measures everybody has in mind aren't the solution to this issue.

Seriously tho you are right. If tomorrow they destroyed evey single gun on the planet someone would find another tool to kill people with. People bludgeon their wives with pans and household items but no one blames the frying pan.

How many people could a man with a frying pan in a theater of 100+ people kill? 70 casualties, 12 dead????

I've taken people out to the gun range who never fired a gun before. I explained everything I was ever taught. We went through dry fires and what to expect. Then when I felt they were ready, I would let them shoot. Every time they always said that it was nothing like they thought and they loved it. It gave them a different perspective and respect for guns.
The problem is most people just swallow whatever the media, movies, books and Dear Leader shovels down their throats about how dangerous guns are. A gun is only as dangerous as the person wielding it.

How about a man with homemade napalm and a super soaker?

I agree with this. Even with something like a machete, the death toll would have been much lower in my opinion.

Quite a bit of damage there...

Who knows what else could have happened if the guy in Colorado had put together something like that in those canisters....

Ok then a car when people are leaving the theater? Should I blame Ford because someone drove his car into a crowd of people. I'm sure cars cause more deaths in a year than guns do. yet no one cries, we need to ban cars.

With household chemicals and some scrap metal he could have made a bomb and killed everyone in the whole room. Should we outlaw basic chemicals and metal? He wouldnt even need a permit for that stuff. Hell an employee at a restaurant could poison an entire restaurant with items bought in walmart. Point is if a civillian really wants to kill a lot of people a gun is one of the least effective ways. Its noisy and has a finite amount of bullets. It draws immediate attention and requires multiple hits.

Nor have I said we need to ban guns.....I simply do not think that the average citizen should have access to things that were developed for our military to use...that's all. Which means, I do not think that it is ok for people to be able to drive around on our highways driving loaded M26 Pershings....

Let me be clear, I'm not trying to change your mind....nor do I care if you go to a gun range and shoot things to your heart's desire...I am simply stating my opinion....and its not going to change either. So, as not to beat this dead horse any longer.....go ahead and shoot your big guns...enjoy yourself.

I don't know, how many people could 4 guys with box cutters kill in a plane of 200+ people?

Every rifle round in the US was either designed for or used by the military throuout this countries history. The .30-06 is a common civillian round and it was used for years and still is used.

Fact is most guns and ammo on the civillian market was designed on the civillian market and later adopted by the military.

The thing is frying pans are not created with killing in mind. Guns are created with the sole intention to kill living things. There is no working around that fact.

We should just outlaw guns, then nobody would use them. I mean it worked for cocaine, prostitution, marijuana, crack, meth, murder, bank robberies, fraud, jaywalking, tax evasion, etc etc

All those are outlawed, and everybody stopped doing them. Flawless plan!

This debate is just going to be an endless cycle around the country and the world. Both sides will never fully agree or consent to the other's viewpoint.

Once again the civilian AR15 is not a military weapon. I think people are forgetting that.

Then stop using the internet, because that was initially developed for military use.

I disagree. I agree with you perfectly.

This has been my experience as well..probably 10-12 times.
