Ahura Mazda asks...
Do you truly believe closing down the borders would end immigration in all its forms?
No of course not. Maybe I was a little bit brash with my last answers. Not ALL immigrants are bad, legal immigrants. But the ones that are ruining this country IMO are the illegals, the ones who sneak in on the back of lorries coming over from France and what not. They come over here not looking for work, but because our benefit system is so lax. Someone could hop off a ferry or the back of a truck and just go into the local job centre and start claiming benefits! Can you believe that! But finally, the government is starting to do something about it. They are thinking of changing it so you have to have lived in this country and paid national insurance and taxes for 10 years before you can claim benefits. But that's how it should of been all along, I fear it may be too late to change anything drastically.
And if they did close down the borders, don't you think the economy would take a further plunge as certain companies take their personnel elsewhere?
Hmmmm...it could do in the short term. But in the long term I think it will see more British nationals getting jobs. As I've said, I have no problem with legal immigrants coming over here to work hard, pay taxes and contribute to the country. But a lot of them either don't work at all and just sponge off the benefit system or they work for cash in hand, not paying taxes or national insurance. That is what is damaging this country. Too many hand outs and not enough money coming in.
And do you think that you are willing to do many of the tasks that many of the immigrants do such as being a maid, nanny or sweeping the floor?
Yea I see what you are saying. There is a attitude over here by some people that all the crap jobs should be done by the immigrants. Which is wrong and right in a way. If someone wants to move to another country, with no qualifications or no trade under their belt, they should have to the crap jobs and work their way up the ladder, just like all of us natives have.
I like Australia's immigration system. You can't come into the country unless you have something to offer. Like a qualification or a trade.
Would you rather that hiring of illegal immigrants be less easy to do then it is now, especially in construction? How would you enforce the laws already in place to prevent it?
That's a very hard thing to do. The problem with these illegals is that they are willing to work for far less money than a native British man. So say I want £80 a day, but a illegal would be willing to do it for £40 a day. Who is the boss gonna hire? And because the illegal is off the books, doesn't pay tax or whatever, the person who hires him hasn't gotta worry about paperwork and all that. He can just give him some cash at the end of the day. That's wrong, but it is the easy way out for a lot of these construction firms and untill they realize that doing that is detrimental to the economy in the long run, nothing will change. I don't think it can be enforced really, it's all up to the people doing the hiring. Untill their attitudes change, it will be nigh on impossible to stop illegals working in construction.
Do you think those hiring would hire more 'legal' people of the costs were lower to make them competitive with 'illegal' people?
Yes I think they would. But as I explained, I think that's wrong. Yea I might charge higher than a illegal person, but that's because I have proper qualifications and training. And more importantly, I will be paying taxes and national insurance, contributing to the country. These illegals don't contribute, yea they might work their arses off, which I admit they do. But if they ain't paying tax or nothing then they shouldn't be in this country.
Are you very worried about the next 18 months given the construction market is hit especially hard as investments in developments are largely limited by the non existant financing due to the banks inability to refinance their debt?
Yes, very worried. I'm short of work now. I work mainly in residential construction. Like building extensions, laying patios, etc. But when money is this tight the last thing someone is going to be thinking about is a new extension or whatever. That's my biggest problem, not many people are thinking about that sort of stuff, the housing market is also in a mess so I doubt many people want to improve their home if they are not going to be able to sell it off at a profit. But I definitely don't blame them or have any resentment towards them. I would be exactly the same.
Do you think Deadpool which actually be portrayed correctly by Fox given its past history with comic book characters?
I haven't got my hopes up too high. But Ryan Reynolds is a massive fan of the character, I don't think he would get involved if Fox was going to take a massive dump on him. I'm open to some creative differences, but the key traits should definitely be the same.
