20 Films "on the docket" for Phase 4. What are they?

I said this also somethread else: Marvel Studios could expand out of the MCU.
2099, Crossgen, as others said, westerns...
Or the long awaited Stan Lee biopic featuring SpaceyCranston as the titular hero

Dick Rider is not really the greatest name ever. :o
I would prefer the OG Nova but one must admit that his name is cringey.

I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up with a composite of the two characters, Sam's name (and possibly ethnicity) on the Rider character. Sam's background wouldn't really really work as it is heavily reliant on their being a powered Nova Corp that has been around for a while. It would be a bit like doing Miles Morales before doing Peter Parker. They would be best to establish that the powered Nova Corp was created though Xandar's research on the Infinity Stone they had, much like Hydra did with the Teseract in Captain America. Then have the main character encounter a survivor of Thanos's attack on Xandar looking to get the Infinity Stone.

I would LOVE to see some 2099 stuff!!! If only we could do Doom 2099 :csad:

I'd love that. With a Stan Lee cameo to boot.

That would be a great way. My problem is that I really like the original, I'd ideally have both, with Sam further down the road.

My man!
Problem here is that both Moore's and Ellis' runs work only with an established Doom in present time for his characterization to be clear to the audience: let's hope in the future (eh eh), never say never...

Dick Rider
I... I can't believe that never occurred to me, but I stand by what I said. If anything, you might have just strengthened my argument. :o

Yeah but there's also the issue of Richard Rider being another white male hero and diversity issues. So that's why you would arguably lean to Sam Alexander instead as well.
That's a good point, but as Orba already said, nothing is stopping Marvel Studios from making our hypothetical Sam/Dick hybrid a Latino, if they want to.

Then why not just use Sam Alexander from the comics to avoid confusion? Adds another teen superhero to the mix as well.

A big part of Sam's backstory is that his father was a Nova. That causes problems since the audience has never been introduced to the superpowered Nova Corp and GOTG indicated that the Nova Corp didn't have the ability yet. If they used Sam they would have to not only explain the change but show that it happened long enough ago for Sam's father to have joined and left. since the first GOTG.

With Rider the story is easier, less things would need to be changed, Rhomann Dey (who appeared in GOTG) crashes on Earth and passes on the Nova Corp Helmet before dying, Rider then goes on to become the first Human member. Its basically the same story as Hal Jordan becoming the Green Lantern.

The main thing would be explaining them going from no powered Nova Corp to having it in the new film. For me the simplest would be that the technology was created through examination of the Power Stone although there plot hole in GOTG. Ronan's ship the Dark Aster was supposed to be a Kree warship, if Xandar had just ended a war they had fought with the Kree for centuries you would think that they would have plenty of experience fighting them yet they were struggling to deal with that a single warship. Did they have bigger and better weapons elsewhere?

I know CBM fans may not like him and his stock isnt so hot right now ...but Zack Snyder would be the perfect director for Silver Surfer. As long as he has nothing to do with the writing/casting. The way he frames a scene and the scenes he captures are second to none.

Maybe...so long as he is kept on a leash and not running amuck like he did with the DCEU films.

Denis Villeneuve for Silver Surfer.

Just say his father was a corpman and not like a centurion.

There’s a fantastic video, I’m not sure if anyone’s seen it, about the way Zack Snyder captures ideas in moments rather than scenes. I’d recommend watching it. https://youtu.be/38Cy_Qlh7VM

That’s what I think you’re getting at, that Snyder makes incredibly memorable moments. However, it scares me that Snyder’s direction might limit the natural feeling of the film and halt character development due to this style.

Doc Strange 2-3
Spider-Man 2-3
Guardians 3
Doom :o
Fantastic Four 1-2-3 :o
X-Men 1-2-3 :o
Thor 4-5-6 :o
Avengers 5-6
Ant-Man 3
Black Panther 2-3
Captain Marvel 2-3

I think their confidence will be higher this time around so that they may well be announcing films 2 and 3 for solo origins that go well.

...and Silver Surfer should never be uttered in the same post.

I would love to see Villeneuve in the MCU!!!

Ideally and partially what I think is likely

2020: Guardians 3, Nova and Doctor Strange 2

2021: Black Panther 2, Fantastic 4, Spider-Man 3

2022: Captain Marvel 2, Avengers 5, Ant-Man and the Wasp 3 (Move this up to 2021 assuming no Fantastic 4)

I'd love to see a Namor movie but it sounds like he's tied up similarly to Hulk.

Besides an Infinity Watch movie, I think an Eternals one (could replace planned Inhumans movie) would be interesting as well.

vol. 1: 19 Issues 1 Annual July 1976 – January 1978 (some lingering plot lines re-visited ending in Thor 301 by Roy Thomas and Mark Gruenwald)

Vol. 2: October 1985 – September 1986 12 Issue MiniSeries

Vol. 3 August 2006 – March 2007 7 Issues

Vol.4 August 2008 – March 2009 9 Issues 1 Annual

Subsequent Mentions (after Thor 301) in Marvel Comics: A retconned Explanation for how certain human's can develop superpowers based on Celestials' experiment on humanity. (Example according to wikipedia: "The Titanians (created by Jim Starlin) and Uranians (created by Stan Lee) were later retconned as being Eternals as well.")

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eternals_(comics)
Publication Origin:
In 1970, Jack Kirby left Marvel Comics to work at DC Comics, where he began the saga of the New Gods, an epic story involving mythological and science fiction concepts, and planned to have a definite ending. However, the saga was left incomplete after the cancellation of the titles involved. Kirby began The Eternals when he returned to Marvel. The Eternals' saga was thematically similar to the New Gods'...
The Eternals were created by Jack Kirby and made their first appearance in The Eternals #1 (July 1976).
Synopsis:
The Eternals are a fictional race of superhumans appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. They are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth. The original instigators of this process, the alien Celestials, intended the Eternals to be the defenders of Earth, which leads to the inevitability of war against their destructive counterparts, the Deviants.

History
(seen under "fictional group biography" heading can see at wikipedia link above; yes it's bit convuluted as people keep adding additional stuff from comics layering things in... This happens with any comics history so core essentials I think are more relevant). Overall, most relevant details can be found in relation to the Celestials who in Marvel lore return to Earth at intermittent times throughout history going back millions of years ago. Besides creation of Eternals and later Deviants, on a later visit they're even responsible for sinking of Mu and Atlantis in 1 of these visits. Another interesting detail woven into the Eternals history not related to the Celestials is the origin of the "Inhumans" as well.

Edit: The same info. as wikipedia link above with more readable area pertaining to history can be found here https://comicvine.gamespot.com/eternals/4060-13344/

Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Hawkeye and War Machine will likely be dead. Winter Soldier will take over as Captain America until Steve Rogers can be recast.

Likely Phase 4 films

Black Widow
Captain America: Fallen Son
Thor 4 (About the rebuilding of Asgard in Nornheim)
Doctor Doom (Noah Hawley's origin story)
Silver Surfer (origin story)
Captain Marvel 2 (vs the Brood)
Black Panther: Doomwar
Fantastic Four (origin story with Annihilus)
Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth (vs Doc Ock)
Doctor Strange: Triump and Torment (with Doctor Doom and Mephisto)
Guardians 3 (vs the Magus. New members include Moondragon, Martyr, Nova and Adam Warlock)
Ravagers (sent into the future. Nikki Gold appears)

X-Men in their own universe for the time being. New films would be
X-Force
X-Men: Messiah Complex
Deadpool 3
New Mutants 2
New Mutants 3
X-Men: Mutant Genesis

And finally an even film to merge universes. Either Secret Wars, Age of Apocalypse or House of M. Time and space collide as universes end. Dead characters return across time and space and a new universe forms... but the Green Goblin is now the Director of SHIELD.

Well, since it looks like the sale to Fox is going to go through the 20 film docket is going to change drastically.

Here's my thoughts on incorporating X-men into MCU weeks back (bit critical I know but have current proposal after):
http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=516765&page=4
I agree with those wanting to keep it separate. The characters work better on their own.

If must go this route: I liked the Terrigan Mist infiltrating earth idea activating dormant inhumans better than mutants cause that gives a basis for how the gene is present in the first place rather than some evolutionary thing that happens all at once in a world already full of superheros.

If still have to go this route... To put them into the MCU, the whole premise of the X-team would have to be back to basics and reinvented in key areas (mutant gene dormant alien DNA triggered by event somehow as opposed to just random sudden evolutionary advance in human DNA as 1 example)to make exploring them feel fresh and perhaps a slower paced movie focusing on characterization to make the characters appear more well rounded to not make people feel superhero fatigue by this point with too much meshing together with superheroes already all over the place winning battles all the time...

Original core team from the 60's; characters still teenagers and hidden from the world until the events of movie unfold... At least that explains why they have no jobs and are all just hanging around the mansion all the time. The concept of them suddenly becoming a superhero team could perhaps be re-examined as well as is a sudden leap for sure.

Edit: The more I think about this the less interesting it becomes. Approach above would be more interesting in a TV style format... I think Fox is exploring other angles already. It would just be alternate realities colliding getting a battle royale type movie similar to Godzilla vs. Kong or Freddie vs. Jason now have MCU vs. X-Men coordinated by Dr. Strange and Grandmaster from Thor Ragnarok! A B-Level movie that gives the fans what they want once all regular films on these characters has become exhausted.

Now that sale seems imminent, will propose something along the line of "Contest of Champions", the first Marvel limited series ever originally printed in 1982 written by Mark Gruenwald with art by John Romita Jr. and Bob Layton. Synopsis Can be read about here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Super_Hero_Contest_of_Champions

While of course the story would have to be re-worked the basic premise kind of gives audience's the sort of event movie this sale seems to necessitate.

I wonder how many of those 20 potential projects will be discarded now that Disney are about to get the X-Men and F4 back. We will probably never even know what some of them were.

I do wonder if they'll cancel a full-on Captain Marvel film including the FF into it then make a FF styled movie that'll bomb (or get themselves back into popularity by utilizing other character films as a vehicle of sorts). I remember back when Incredibles 1 came out and Avi Arad seemed think that stole the FF's thunder. Perhaps a cpu animated FF movie for immediate future could work? (People who worked on Incredibles working on this be interesting)

Anyway, Sony I think has a lot of potential franchises on hand not just Marvel related and maybe Paramount (haven't really done much comic related stuff since Marvel ended their partnership with them in 2012 due to Disney buying Marvel of course) and Universal will get into the mix with something. I am looking forward to the Venom movie and hope Silver and Black can be re-worked into something good. Nightwatch (short lived Spawn knockoff it seems but interesting power set) and Morbius could be something good but really cinematic version would have to stand on it's own to make anything good of it.
