Since the first decade of the 21st Century is almost over, I thought this could be a good idea to talk about the last ten years; whether it's entertainment, world events, politics, or even our own lives. Like how all of our lives have changed since 2000 and where they are now.

With me, sometimes it's hard to believe that I graduated high school eight years ago.

It would be easy to get verbose in a thread like this but I'll try to keep my thoughts on various issues as short as possible.

World Events: 9/11 is still at the forefront of my mind. I went to Ground Zero in '02 and saw the effects of intolerance and fanaticism. That made me realize how dangerous the world can be.

Politics: I watched two Presidents who were popular at one time, leave office with major stains on their legacies. Now I'm seeing a Pres who was the toast of a town a year ago battling an increasing throng of doubt. Power is a fickle mistress.

Entertainment: A mixed bag here. There was a plethora of good movies this decade, especially comic book adaptations, but just about every TV show I liked has ended.

Personal: I started the decade single, ended it married with kids. I lost three of my four grandparents. I would have been shocked to have that knowledge in '99.

Entertainment: The evolution of music, for the most part. Metal got back and it's good. Electronic music got better, ...
As for movies, they have evolved quite a lot too. If you compare footage that was taken in 2000 with footage that was taken somewhere this year, it's a huge difference!
As for gaming, personaly I don't know about X-Box, so I'll keep it with Playstation.

We've seen two gens in this decade. The PS2 (2000) which was a lot more advanced than the PSX, and then we had the PS2 Slim in 2004. In 2006 we already got the PS3 and now we have the PS3 Slim. Don't forget about the pockets, PSP and PSPGo.

We even have the Wii which has stupid ass games, but how the controls work are rather awesome.

World events: WTC towers. I remember staying up all night to watch it.

Politics: The current crisis. How our goooood Belgian politics destroyed our economics.

Personal: I still remember when it was new year's week 1999-2000 as it was yesterday. I went to the city to pick up my mom from her work the 31st, and I remember the trainstation to have this special wallpaper with 2000 written all over it, and I think it's still there. I've also discovered Slipknot in 2000 and I'm still a very big fan.

I've come pretty far now from age 7 until age 16. I've grown, I've changed, lost and gained a lot of people, been through a lot, and I hope the next 10 years will be good!

What I'm planning to do in the next 10 years:

Graduate.
Get a decent job.
Get a wife.
Fulfill my mother's wish to become a grandmother.
Buy a house.
Live long and happy.

Considering the decade was mostly a clusterf**k of horrible leadership, bad uninspired entertainment. I would rather look forward than behind.

A decade already?....... And it seems like all the Y2K hype was only yesterday.....

Crybaby emo kids. Oh whoa is me. No one understands me. blah, blah, blah.

I was going to say something here..... but I'm not that mean..... I'm sure someone else will pick up on it and say it for me :oldrazz:

One of the greatest things to happen this decade though was Lord of the Rings :awesome: And I'm not just saying that because of Grima :csad: but there were a lot of messed up parts of those movies....... the battle of Pelennor Fields made me rage face...... still a great set of movies though

Two of the worst things to happen this decade...... Star Wars II and III :waa: Why George? Why? Why did you let that parasite on your neck named Spielberg eat you brain? Wwwhhhhhhhyyyyyyy?!

It's cool. I just think it's a cop out. An excuse. Probably because I am an adult, married and have kids. It's not like I was ever a teen or anything. Alot of kids today are handed whatever they feel like they are entitled to, instead of earning it. :whatever:

(and I did say alot, not all. some are good kids)

Most of my school years have happened in the last decade, so, in terms of my personal life A LOT has changed. In terms of everything else there has been a lot of stuff, 9/11, George W. Bush in office, the first black president, crappy remakes, Facebook, Twitter, the videogame industry (though gaming has been around since the Atari, they introduced the Wii, PS3, Xbox360), and other things of that nature.

Entertainment: Not into music but I am video games. Been through a lot there with N64, PS2, GC, 360, Wii. Picked up a NES and SNES too and play old games I missed out on. The advances from the N64 to now are really unbelievable at times.

Computers a decade ago are crap compared to now. I remember the first computer my dad bought (probably 15 years ago). I remember just playing games on that.

Personal: Start of 2000 I was in 4th grade. Now, I am a sophomore in college. This point in my life seemed like it was a lot further ahead of me than it really was.

I'll be 30 in 10 years. That's pretty crazy to think about. Probably have my own place and a job by then.

Wow, I was 6 in 2000 now i'm gonna be 16 in 2010 O_O

Hey, Spidey-Bat. I'm a freshman in college. go figure

Music: Let's start with music. I'm not an expert, but I think everyone can see the change. From 98' to 01' pop, ska, and punk rock became huge really fast. Boy bands like N'sync and Backstreet and all the knock offs were the epitome of what turn of the millenium music was. That quickly changed. Now you have really good alternative music and, as someone said before, Metal became cool again and more mainstream. Still ever since pop icons like brittney spears and others became unpopular, Disney channel attacked the pre-teen genertaion of the 2000s with their revival of "clean" pop: Miley Cyrus, Jonas Brothers, etc...

Television: By 2003, I witnessed the downfall of Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Favorite shows ran it's course and they had no good ideas left. Today, i don't even recognize these channels anymore. Spongebob is the only thing Nick has left. I'm so bitter about it...just don't get me started. In terms of primetime television, it seems that dramas have really taken the soap opera route, mixed with action in order to please the boys. Reality TV has to be the worst thing to come out of the 2000s. Let's hope it was just fad for the decade and it will eventually die out in the years to come.

Movies: Every decade has its fair share of winners and failures in the film industry. But for comic book fans, I think we really ruled the decade. X-men and Spider-man really boosted the craze for films adapted into comic books. Marvel has and still is on the band wagon, DC is catching up though. Personally for me, i was not of fan of comic books until i saw the first Spider-man movie. I fell in love with it and the entire genre. I am what you see before you because of it. So that's why May of 2002 holds quite a significance for me.

That's all i want to say for now

Let's see..

In '00 I was only ten years old! It's weird, it doesn't seem like all that long. When I was 10 I'm pretty sure 19 seemed forever away! Now that I'm 19 turning 30 doesn't even seem that far off.

Pretty much everything has done a complete 180 in the past few years though. I graduated from high school, got my first job, moved out of my parents house, started college, got fired from my first job...

Still a little nervous about the upcoming years!

Speaking purely from a personal level:

Graduated high school. Went to college. Got engaged. Graduated college. Struggled to find a job as a starving artist for 1.5 years. Last living grandparent died. Fiance left. Put dog I had for 17 years down. Got awesome job as an animator. "Second" mother died of cancer. Recently reunited with my old high school rock band and am in the middle of recording our first cd.

Most of that stuff happened in the past year (hell, some within weeks of each other); 2009 has been a LOOOOOOOOONG decade :/ Looking forward to the next 10 years. Hopefully what good stuff has started to happen will transition itself into a very happy and productive 2010-2020. (...that is sooooo weird to say)

I'll be 30 in less than 6 years. Not quite sure how I feel about that.

Yep, I remember when they announced the 2010 Olypmic games, back in 2002/2003 or whatever. I couldn't believe I would be 17 when it started. It seemed so far away.

in the last ten years...
I got divorced, got a new gf, got engaged, ended the engagement, fooled around, got into another relationship, got engaged and married again and not looking that bright into that right now, but things always change, for the better or the worse

music got very boring, then exciting again, then boring again

this was the decade I finally got around into cinema, and going to the movies at least once a month, whereas in the 90's I went like ten times to the movies at the most... but the movie industry is not that interesting, not as the indies

Not to poop on the party, but haven't we all realized that the 21st century didn't start until 2001?

I hereby declare that my 7,600 post shall be one big :oldrazz: to you.

Hard to believe we are almost at the end of a decade. There has been alot of turmoils and changes in the past 10 years. Here's some of my recollection:

Society: 9/11 has changed everything, because it was the first major attack on U.S. soil since WWII (Pearl Harbor), and it also got U.S. involved in two wars (although Iraq had more to do with Bush's claim of WMD, but I digress). We also witnessed the election of the first black President, something that was considered impossible not long ago. Oh, and the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.

Movies: I think this decade had given us alot of good movies, and especially the surge of superhero movies as a proven genre in Hollywood. X-Men 1 & 2, BB & TDK, and Iron Man were all terrific critically and financially. We also had Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy, which was geek-gasmic.

Technology: High-speed internet now gives us the option to stream movies online, and we are spending more times than ever before on the Internet thanks to MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter. iPhone's success has usher in the era of smart phones, with Google-powered Android technology phone poise to become a major challenger to Apple's iPhone.

Video Game: From PS2, GC, and Xbox to Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360, I think video games are better than ever before thanks to online play and contents that are instantly downloadable to your console. With Project Natal and PS3's own motion-capture technology, we may see the gamers becoming more integrate to the video games that we play.

This decade has sucked really, Kartina, 9/11, Tsunami, Earthquakes, Bush, Economic Collapse, Boy bands taking over the world.

:down

Which makes me laugh even harder at all the "2012" Chicken Littles who didn't learn their lesson then.
