2008 Prediction Thread

Blas HEARTS Spider-Vadar.

Predictions for this year? MGS4 owns so much Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher just cries all the way through Conviction.

I predict that this year will be big, better than last one (and 2007 is seen as one of the finest years in gaming), and 2009 will be even bigger.
Or this one will be mediocre....but 2009 will be gigantic.

I predict that most of Hippie's predictions will be wrong.
We'll see. That's the point of the thread. We'll laugh at the losers who say wrong things. :yay:

(Rare's games have gotten progressively better since the buy-out. Or do you not pay attention anymore?)
Yeah, Rare has gotten better, but that prediction comes from the basis that most of the Xbox 360's fanbase doesn't give a flying f**k about Rare.

I predict that the X360 will see another price drop, and as such, keep the PS3 in dead last for at least another year, probably two.
I'm basing my prediction on the Playstation 3 outselling the Xbox 360 because based on the first weeks of this year, the Playstation 3 has outsold the Xbox 360 by a rather decent margin. And this is pretty much with crap for games. Imagine how much the Playstation 3 will sell when it actually gets freaking games.

However it's still going to be dead last because of the Xbox 360's headstart, the Wii's popularity, and Sony's craptacular start.

DMC: I really don't think GTA will get game of the year. Its graphics look slightly above mediocre at best, embarrassing (for such a hyped title, at least) at worst... storytelling will remain horrid, etc. Personally, the GTA series is grossly overrated.
Grand Theft Auto is fun as hell but damn you hit the nail on the head.

I don't think it'll be mediocre due to games such as Grand Theft Auto IV, Halo Wars, Metal Gear Solid 4, and others but I don't think it'll surpass 2007.

What do you want to bet that none of us remember this thread is here by the end of the year?

True, but I still believe that Rare will develop a good game in BK3. At first I was thinking that you meant underperform quality-wise. Sales-wise, this might be true. We'll see if it sticks or doesn't.

Indeed. The game is fun, but it's not GOTY quality by any stretch.

$0.00 because that's what will most likely happen :csad:

Rare will probably develop a good game with Banjo-Kazooie 3, but in terms of fanbase it's as if Rare's developing for the wrong console.

I'll be pissed if Grand Theft Auto IV makes GOTY. There are so many games out there that look a lot more fun.

Fallout 3 is my vote for GOTY. MGS will be the frontrunner, but Fallout will amaze people.

Looks good, as long as Bethesda doesn't make it a FPS version of Oblivion. Ugh, would that be a terrible way to round off such a great series.

I think they are smarter than that...

I see MGS4 as strong GOTY contender. GTA4 will be up there but I dont see it being GOTY

I wouldn't know. They've been an on-and-off, hit-and-miss developer as of late. Hopefully their best team is grinding away on Fallout, otherwise there will be very many pissed fanboys.

You mean aside from the god awful Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel games?

Brotherhood of Steel wasn't Fallout like it should be, and Tactics I wouldn't consider one of the series either. More like spin-offs.

I predict that, at least, two more mergings will be announced, even if the lastest news tell that Eidos is no longer seeking for it.
It makes sense...

There were rumour back when Bioware was bought that EA might change to EA Bioware, or at least, open a new internal studio, giving Bioware all the independence in the world, but keep it in their "family" (i still think that it will happen, with or without a name change).
Activision is now Activision Blizzard.
Publishers will need to merge if they want to compete with them, because the only two with fame and fortune to do it is Ubisoft and Take 2, and even them...
I imagine a Ubisoft/Atari merge will happen eventually, the same with THQ/? (insert name).
The only that i can´t imagine not going for the merging angle is Take 2 (with their 2K brand, they don´t need it).

If mergings are not a go, there will be endings, and i predict either Midway (one of the worst, except Mortal Kombat, they have nothing do hold to) or Codemasters (they can´t live on Colin McRae alone) going down

Blas, I have always wanted to know this. What the hell do you search for to find asians in bikinis? I looked up Asian Bikini, and all I got was porn. Is there a national asian in bikini database I have no knowledge of?

Japan Gravure Idols

I predict that one more publisher is going to close doors, and i bet is.....MIDWAY.

Midway aren't doing so well right now. Their 2007 games lineup was 99% quality-free, and as we tread softly into 2008 we now learn two of their key executives have jumped ship. Thomas Powell, who was not only the company's Vice President but also Chief Financial Officer and treasurer has resigned, as has Senior marketing VP Steve Allison. The reasons behind the resignations weren't stated, but they do tie in neatly with something we heard last week: that last Thursday the axe was swung across the company, culminating in job losses at many of Midway's offices, including around 20 staff from their Austin studio.

As not happend yet, but things don´t look good...

I predict it will be a close race with 360 & Wii trying for the win, PS3 dead-last

Iron Man movie game might actually be great.

Will Metal Gear Solid 4 finally be announced for the Xbox 360?
always possible....highly doubtful

Will the Wii finally meet demand?
the Wii's doing well for itself considering the risk they took for going with such a drastic change. i think the Wii will do similar to how the Gamecube did.

Will Sony come out on top with the Playstation 3 or will Microsoft's Xbox 360 completely rape it in the ass?
this is PS3's year to shine. they've got their heavy hitters coming out this year along with blu-ray taking over the HD war. 07 was the year of the 360...08 is up for grabs, but it's in favor of the PS3 since the 360 used most of it's good cards last year.

Will one of us finally get laid?
lawfully and w/out the help of substances or money? not a chance...

Game of the year?
littlebigplanet......just a hunch

this year should be a much closer race than last year. MS got the jump start on the Wii and the PS3 but all systems have been out long enough to get good momentum....but like i said, the PS3 has a lot going for it heading into the new year and it's only January.

I thought '07 was for Wii? I think it will be the same, PS3 will do better but Wii & 360 will do better too. Unless PS3 does a huge price-drop, inwhich I'll pick one up. The chances of that are slim.

You do know that the Wii has already surpassed Gamecube as far as units sold, right?

nope...didn't know that, i haven't really been keeping track the Wii or it's numbers. thanx for the info though. lemme reiterate then....for 2008, i think the Wii will continue to perform as steadily as the Gamecube performed.
