No deal is in place for 2014 in Russia. It all goes back to the NHL, IIHF and Russian Hockey Federation not having a transfer agreement. Each organization is trying to leverage the Games to get what they want.

Ovechkin said he will go play if there isn't deal and will accept any punishment. I say go to Russia but after that bring back the World Cup of Hockey and do it right and let the amateurs represent countries. There are pros and cons to being in the Olympics but overall I see too many cons for stopping midseason to cram in a two week tournament. The Canada Cups were a success and now with more countries able to skate competitive teams like Slovakia and Switzerland, a recurring event like the World Cup would be even better.
