Great start to the year! Now let's hope the Bengals can capitalize on it.

My crazy prediction for the year: Browns win the AFC North.

The Browns are better than people give them credit for, but I don't think they're that good yet.

Ladies, Gentlemen, & whatever Steeler fans are,

I am disturbed. I am deeply distraught at the depths the National Football League has sunk to based on what was globally televised last night. I mean, I know they love ratings and being edgy but to televise a molestation during prime time is going a bit too far. I’m contacting my local Congressmen and I urge you to do the same. What Peyton Manning and Broncos did to the Baltimore Ravens clearly could not have been legal and caused season long trauma to millions. Let your voices be heard before you too, are violated.

Seriously though, last night was physically painful, not made any easier by the flood of text messages and emails I was receiving throughout the 2nd half. I’m keeping it in perspective, it’s just the 1st game of the season and I said they’d back into the playoffs but the rump they’re using to back in now needs a Band Aid.

I’m not saying, I’m just saying.

From what I saw last night and once they get some of their injured players back, they could conservatively still get to 10-11 wins. With split losses to the Steelers, Bengals, Patriots, and Packers? That should get them into the Playoffs again.

I agree, as my brother & I were saying last night, there were a lot of miscues and stupid penalties, typical of a team with new moving parts. There were also several key drops that were just horrendous. I'm also not that worried about Joe, almost 400 yards with 2 TDs but that 2nd INT was just sloppy.

Eh, as I said, 1st game of the season but physically painful to watch. Whenever the other squad is making history in spectacular fashion at your expense, it's never an encouraging sign.

they'll be better, but not that good

Their defense is looking very good and I think the North is in a downward slump this year. I don't think Dalton progressed as he needed to last year and I seeing him being an average QB this year. I think the Browns' defense gets them the win of a very weak division. I could see them being one of those 10-6 or 9-7 division champions, but champions none the less.

Absolutely not.

Meh. I could be wrong, but every year there is a surprising division winner. I think the aged mediocrity of the AFC North combined with the very underrated defense of the Browns, gives them a good season where they win the division.

The AFC North might be down, but not so bad that the Browns win it.

The Browns are pretty bad.

They have quietly put together one hell of a defense. If Weeden and the offense can simply not turn over the ball/sustain drives to let the D rest a bit, the defense will do the rest.

In other news....

The read option is one injury away from being as irrelevant as the Wild Cat. There is a reason that the average length of a halfback's relevance is about five years. Once Kaepernick, RG3 or Wilson go down from a big hit, you will see offensive coordinators back away from the read option and start drawing up their next gimmick.

The Onion names the top 10 coaches of the 2013 NFL season!

The Onion said:
With the NFL season finally underway, Onion Sports provides a helpful guide to the league’s best coaches.

10. Dennis Allen: With Allen, always expect the unexpected, be it losing a game by 21 points or squeaking out a close 3-point defeat

9. Jim Schwartz: No one has done less with more

8. Gary Kubiak: Has transformed the Texans from a total laughing stock to a perennial playoff disappointment

7. Marvin Lewis: Known around the league as the best at coaching players through their testimonies

6. Chip Kelly: His spread offense is so highly touted that all the Eagles’ opponents have already conceded defeat

5. John Fox: Coached no-name journeyman quarterback Peyton Manning into a star last year

4. Jeff Fisher: One year into his tenure with the Rams, appears poised to step out of Steve Spagnuolo’s shadow

3. John Harbaugh: Coming off a memorable Super Bowl run, there’s no reason why Harbaugh can’t guide the Ravens to another 10-6 season this year

2. Joe DeCamillis: A gifted special teams coordinator who somehow stays modest despite constant comparisons to all-time greats like Frank Grump and Boils Handeman

1. Bill Belichick: Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time. (Rev 12:12)

Well, if isn't the Bengals I'd be cool with it being the Browns. And to be honest, I'm not saying it isn't possible. I just don't see it happening. I remember watching them last season and thinking, "Wow, they are so much better than what their record is showing." I can see the Browns having a decent year. I just can't see them winning the division. Maybe fighting for 2nd place.

My favorite part of the game last night:

Ryan Secreast got booed.

Big surprise of the day....Jim Harbaugh is complaining and whining about a rule that doesn't benefit him.

I know the Ravens and the Steelers aren't the powerhouses they have been in years past, but are we just completely disregarding them as any sort of significant???

Bengals and Browns for #1 and #2 in that division???

Bengals perhaps, Ive not doubt that they can make the playoffs, their biggest issue has always been winning a playoff game.

As for the Browns, I think the only thing holding them back is Weedens play. He had a major stare down problem last season, and seemed to continued into this preseason. It looks like he makes up his mind pre snap where he's going and follows his guy until it's time to throw.

Is it me or does SD always seem to play on a Monday to open their season. It seems like they are always on MNF every year in Week 1.

I can get the Bengals winning that division.

But I don't see any possible way that the Ravens AND Steelers (oops on the original omission) end up any order of 3 AND 4 in that division.

It's because since they started doing a Monday Night double header, the 2nd game has to be on the west coast due to time zones. No way are they gonna START a game at like 10pm on the east coast.

The 1st year they did it, it was in San Francisco (I went to that game), the year after I think it was in Oakland, and yea, since then it seems like it's been in San Diego.

But they don't have too many choices - San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego, and Seattle are about their only choices to host that 2nd Monday Night opener.

AFC west teams are usually involved in the doubleheader MNF game, probably due to timing.
