Stafford's contract was extended last July after having thrown for 10,000+ yds and 61 TD's the previous two seasons, and before last season's collapse. Not exactly "unproven."

I'll have a better outlook on him if & when he wins more playoff games & when his input is unnecessary when hiring coaches.

It really depends on your definition of success. Is it regular season or post season success? I don't think too many QBs have went on to win Super Bowls after a huge contract/extension. Eli, Roethlisberger?

I don't think anyone would argue with giving Peyton and Brady money and they've been a collective 0-4 in the Super Bowl since 2006 season. I'm aware that Brady took less money for probably his last contract.

I don't think Kaepernick necessarily earned a high contract after a year and a half showing. And while I'm not a big Alex Smith fan at least he didn't necessarily hurt his team in the Playoffs.

I think Kaepernick's salary for the last few seasons has been $875 000... he deserves to get some kind of increase... and while he still has much learning at this infancy point in his career, he has still taken the 49ers to two NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl... more so than most of those QB's making the big, big money...

Unlike Matt and a few others, I really believe in this kid, and I want my team to lock him down before he goes away... drafting a young QB might put a spark under his ass, and that's always a good thing... didn't hurt the Niners when they had Steve Young backing up Joe Montana... :word:

:yay:

I'll say this about Kaepernick. He's lucky that San Francisco signed Boldin, because that dude made Joe Flacco look like a star. However, Kaepernick still only has one season as a starter. I'd say give him some money, but not 20 million. He needs to show that he deserves 20 million as his success can be attributed to the fact that his team is the most balanced in the entire league. This season will be his make or break season as a competent QB.

This!! Yes give Kapernick an increase in pay & sign to new contract, BUT not the ludicrous amount of 20 million.

Jaguars send Blaine Gabbert to the 49ers for a 6th Round Draft pick.

Jags have sign Zane Beadles and we've offered a contract to Alex Mack. Don't have feelings on the Beadles signing either way. He's a good fit for our O-Line. I'm happy we're not afraid to go after Mack. Hopefully Cleveland doesn't match the offer.

And, the big news....WE GOT RID OF BLAINE GABBERT TO 49RS FOR A 6TH ROUNDER. DAVE IS GOD.

.....although, Harbaugh will probably turn him into a probowler. Because Jaguars.

We actually potentially get two picks.

@APMarkLong
Caldwell says Jaguars gets a 6th in this year's draft and a conditional pick next year for Blaine Gabbert

Ryan O'Halloran ‏@ryanohalloran 2m
Caldwell said he talked to 49ers GM Trent Baalke in London about Gabbert. ... LAST October.
Caldwell is a beast.

And Walter Thurmond and Willie Young visited Jax today. I doubt Seattle will match an offer, so I expect WT3 to be a Jag this season.

Kaepernick did not take The Niners to the Super Bowl and NFC Championship Game. Harbaugh and that defense did. If San Fran gives Colin 20+ million a year, then The 49ers front office has gone full ******. Kaepernick struggled with the best O-Line in the game, one of the freakiest/talented TEs in NFL history and a tough SOB in Boldin. No effing excuse. I'd offer Kaep 10 million a year -- that's the max. If he declines, let him walk and draft Bortles or Carr.

Bears release Julius Peppers.

So the Eagles, who are desperate to improve their secondary, sign Malcolm Jenkins who was the lowest ranked safety in the league last season.

OK then.

The Fins somehow managed to trade Jonathan Martin to the 49ers for a draft pick

Broncos sign Aqib Talib to 6 years $57 million with $26 million guaranteed. Elway is nuts.

That said, Broncos are in the lead for Demarcus Ware. Ware and Miller on the same D-Line? Imagine if they can keep DCR with Talib. smh.

MEDIOCRE????

When did Glabbert get better?

:csad:

I really don't know the heck Baalke & the 49ers brass were thinking when they decided to trade for Gabbert. They might have been high on something when they approved this trade. If it's an consolation to you, if anyone can improve a bad QB, it's Jim Harbaugh.
