2014 NFL thread: The Final Battle

Best thing I can think of off hand about this Super Bowl match up, is how Patriots fans will now be judged on the remarks about how Brady would of put up more of a fight against the Seahawks then Manning in last year's SB.

I said that was a foolish notion for more than a one off already. You dont need to keep addressing it. Dallas and Green bay are on equal footing on the national level in terms of TV audience. It really didnt matter who got through to Seattle at that point. Are you going to argue that the NFL doesnt like seeing it's darling franchises in meaningful games?
Yes, I'm arguing that the NFL isn't fixed. And I'm certainly not in your position of trying to argue the NFL wants the Cowboys one week and then doesn't want them the next. (You may want to check TV ratings for Cowboys games throughout the year before you claim the Packers are on the same level)

You need to explain all the key calls that went against the Cowboys in the Lions game that contributed to them being behind in the first place. What is your theory on those?
ZOMG! You found an uncalled holding penalty on an NFL play! This is unprecedented! Someone alert the White House!
Well? Why wasn't it called if the officials were looking for ways to help the Cowboys? That would have taken points off the board. The perfect opportunity to help them.

And there was a call against the Cowboys that took points off the board for them....in that game which you are claiming was fixed in favor of the Cowboys.

Now I want you to imagine that the flag was thrown on this play and then picked up with the ref saying there was no holding. Then it might be similar.
Amazing how many fans don't know what happened there. The only unusual thing there was the ref announced the penalty before they finished conferring on the call. Usually they talk it over before it is announced. It was a mistake, just not the devious mistake that some fans are imagining. That was a product of an officiating crew that was not used to working together.
except the fact that one was actually called interference and then magically changed, and then had the NFL admit they blew the call, whereas the other was reviewed on video by the refs and overturned with an explanation and the NFL backing it up. Yup, samesies.
First, there was no "magic". It's a simple explanation that some fans don't want to hear.

Second, yes it's just fans disagreeing with how a play is interpreted. Two different ways to getting to the same complaint.
Pettigrew never grabbed a hold of the defender's facemask, you need to let go of that fallacy. And even if he did, then it's offsetting penalties and replay the down.
Eek...you shouldn't say things like that in the internet age.

Interesting that fans who claim they want fairness want the team that grabbed a facemask and underthrew a pass to be bailed out and get to run the play again. Sounds like a great deal for the Lions.

I still wonder exactly what the defender was supposed to do there. The receiver had to stop to try and catch that horrible pass...how is the defender supposed to avoid him after the facemask?

It was a great no-call if there ever was one.
No, as I mentioned at least the other 3 times you posted this link, you can review game tape and find a penalty and missed call on every play. The PI on Pettigrew wasnt missed, it was seen and called..and then uncalled..and then the league admitted the decision was wrong. The two dont equate. I'm growing tired of repeating this.
Got a link to the 3 other times I posted that link? ;)

I'm not surprised you don't have any problem with all the calls that went against Dallas or were not called. But you still gotta explain how they happened to support your idea that the NFL was trying to help the Cowboys win.

That theory is dead.

New England hasn't won the Super Bowl since 2004
and the last time they were AFC Champions was back in 2011
tonights blowout victory is indeed a worthy and joyous celebration IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!!!!

No other team in the NFL has had as much luck as The Seahawks this season. Wilson has fumbled 11x and recovered each one... somehow. He also throws lob after lob but they're are never picked off. They magically land into their receiver's hands every goddamn time.
On the first one, the good teams seem lucky because they are good. There is probably a reason why they keep beating the other team to fumbles. The more it happens, the more it probably isn't luck.

And if Wilson keeps throwing lob passes that always land on target...I'm going to say that's because he's really good at throwing lob passes. :word:

At the end of the day, at least your team still has a decent season to hang its hat on. Extending Cincy's playoff losses and upsetting Denver had to be nice.

With that being said, welcome to the offseason cemetery :woot:
It will be nice when Andrew isn't playing by himself.

The Colts have a bright future, amigo! Tonight def was hard for you guys, but you have a solid foundation. You will be back :word:

I see a Colts SB in the next couple years. Hopefully, my Browns decide to join the party someday.

We already know Brady will put up more fight than Manning. Brady's playoff stats s*** all over Manning's.

He threw two int (not counting it when the receiver causes it)...just like Rodgers. And then he came up huge when it really counted. I don't get why so many are reluctant to give him any credit while making excuses for guys like Luck and Manning.

This post was with 3 mins left in the game and a sure Seattle loss. Context, my man.

Dude, there's nothing good about 11 fumbles no matter how you try to spin it. To not lose one fumble IS good fortune. Scratch that, it is divine intervention.

Well, today his luck nearly ran out. He can't keep throwing lobs or he'll have another four interception day. Wilson is one slippery mofo but he's overdue for another horrific performance.

In the days ahead, as usual I will begin our annual Super Bowl thread, complete with a poll and such. Stay tuned.

I thought you were a Rams fan

I'm both, I was born in Mass and grew up in STL. My dad inundated me with Patriots love and I love the Cards, Rams and Blues. People In Saint Louis hate me.

I just have to say this years super bowl sucks! My packers with one of the biggest chock jobs in NFL playoff history and now I have to hear more about overrated brady so please seahawks beat them so they can shut up about brady and so I can say my team lost to the champs.

I was rooting for GB to win because I wasn't sure that Pats could beat them. Looking at the two games....Seattle played terrible. If they play like that in the Super Bowl they will lose.
On the flip side the Patriots are a complete team now...able to run and pass well. If they play like they did today they'll win.
I think GreenBay exposed Seattle and Belicheck will take advantage of it.

It should be a good game.

So which Packer player deserves the most hate?

Aaron Rodgers for not exploiting an injured Richard Sherman, Morgan Burnett for just laying down after intercepting Russell Wilson, or Brandon Bostick for botching the onside kick assignment?

I'd go with Aaron Rogers not exploiting a hurt Richard Sherman....they should have targeted his side and make them pull Sherman.

Oh I didn't even think of the morgan burnett play. I would say Brandon though because if he gets that kick off they at least take another minute off the clock and almost for sure get a fg. Like worst cause if they get that kick off they are up by 8 with like a minute left.

NE were AFC Champions in 2012 not 2011. The Steelers were AFC Champions in 2011.

New England won the the AFC Championship in the year 2012, so that's the last time they were known as AFC Champions regardless of whether it was the 2011-2012 season.

Reports are coming out that the Patriots may have used deflated footballs against the Colts tonight.

I don't buy it. Not until we see the logistics behind it.

I am honestly surprised Rodgers didn't even attempt to test him. Obviously, Sherman wasn't acting. Not for as long as he was wincing in pain. And if Sherman would have gotten hit hard by another player, he would have been dunzo.

The most painful part is that the ball was going right for Jordy Nelson. If Bostick wasn't there, Nelson would have caught it and we'd probably be having a different conversation right now.

Oh was he? I would have to see the replay to see that about nelson.

Wasn't Rodgers a genius last week? So how is he now a moron for not throwing at Sherman?

Sherman was probably covering his man well. I know people don't like him...but he is good.

So I can mark you down as believing a god is helping the Seahawks get to fumbles faster than the other team?

Well...ok. I'm going to go with a team that plays well together, is well coached and motivated, and has great athletes. Like I said, the more it happens, the LESS I believe it is just luck. One vulture circling in the sky is a coincidence, 10 vultures?....something is dead brother.

To those rooting against the Pats...it might help to remember most were saying similar things about the Broncos last year. Remember how the Seahawks had to squeak out a win against the 49ers? The mighty Peyton Manning was the media darling and was going to ride in and triumphantly walk away with the trophy.

Don't be surprised if defense wins a championship again.
