2015 was going to be one crowded year

As of right now Star Wars will not move as long as the shareholders are happy and Bob Iger being the big mouse with the tastiest cheese.

The problem is that Bob wants Star Wars in 2015. Period. JJ and LucasFilm have tried for a 2016 and they got a big fat 'no' with Dec 2015 is the great compromise.

JJ never tried for it, only Kathy did. JJ actually said he was fine with a Summer Release but they gave him more then he apparently needed. Which is more then enough time. He was picked up in late December (technically) in 2012, having 3 years to work on it is more than enough time.

So I guess we found our trade-off to the sheer awesomeness of 2015

Fifty Shades of Grey Pushed Back to Valentine's Day 2015

Universal Pictures and Focus Features have pushed back director Sam Taylor-Johnson's Fifty Shades of Grey from an August 1, 2014 release to February 13, 2015. In related news, EW is featuring stars Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson on the cover for its new issue, and you can check out the pics below. They play Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele in the adaptation of the best-selling book series. Joining them in the cast are Luke Grimes as Christian's brother, Elliot, Victor Rasuk as Anastasia's close friend, José, and Jennifer Ehle as Anastasia's mother, Carla.

Other films scheduled for February 13, 2015 are the Nicolas Sparks adaptation The Longest Ride and SpongeBob SquarePants 2.

Universal has also set new dates for two other films. Tate Taylor's Get On Up, featuring Chadwick Boseman as James Brown, has been moved up from October 17, 2014 to August 1, 2014. It will now face Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy. And Gary Shore's Dracula Untold, starring Luke Evans, will now be released on October 17, 2014. Also scheduled on that date are another Nicholas Sparks adaptation, The Best of Me, and the Guillermo del Toro-produced Book of Life.

So not just 50 shades but also Spongebob 2 uggh

The hell? Hollywood might as well just say "F**k it" and delay every movie next year until 2015.

I don't understand the six month delay to a degree, it's not like 50 Shades is a CGI heavy film. On the other hand, the Valentine's Day weekend move is brilliant. It'll easily be #1 for the 3-day and 4-day President's day weekend.

This means GOTG has practically zero competition again. Excellent...

I don't see how 50 Shades of Grey would be competition to Guardians of the Galaxy. They aren't exactly aimed at the same audience.

It's a big deal. Probably less so now that Charlie Hunnam has dropped out, but I think a lot of people would still see it either as a joke or just to see what it was like. Plus the book was extremely successful so there's that. Overall GOTG would have won but 50 Shades won't be some small indie movie from Sundance, it'll be big in some way.

50 Shades is basically looking for the same audience as Magic Mike...groups of women who went out together to watch the movie. I get the sense that the vast majority of the audience is unhappy about the choice of leads, which could be bad news at the box office.

Glad to see that Independence Day 2 has been scared off to July 1 2016. They likely knew that they were going to get stomped in 2015...which leads to the question...if you know that your movie can't capture enough attention to be the blockbuster it MUST be to be considered a success, why bother making it at all?

Or maybe he couldn't be ready by that date.

Possible...but a full year is quite a miscalculation, for a movie that is supposedly a tentpole fast-tracked film.

So, Mission Impossible 5 is opening December 25, 2015. I don't think that's the wisest choice. Going up against Episode 7, like that.

It really isn't wise. To be honest, I expect a delay to move it to 2016.

With most studios releasing 10-14 films a year now its good to see them taking their time and not rushing to hit a release date when more time either on the script or filming reshoots can save a film and make a profit.

Yeah at best you would want to open on Episode VI's 3rd weekend, not their 2nd on Christmas Day. Of course the bulk of MI Ghost Protocol's gross came from the international market, it could still do steady business in North America up against Star Wars.

Paramount could also be trying to scare off Warcraft, Inferno and Live By Night.

Sherlock Holmes did very well opposite Avatar back in 2009. So they're probably trying to replicate that.

I expect a delay to move it to 2016.

I see M:I5 being moved to Summer 2016.

The only December releases that I can see moving to 2016 are Warcraft and Inferno. They're the ones most affected by Star Wars.

You can see why some films have fled to 2016, one to re-write but just to stay out of the way. There are now 5-6 films that you don't want to launch up against as they will be securing IMAX & 3D screens and plenty of dollars from moviegoers. Either a week before a "billion dollar film" launches or the two weeks after it launches.

Maybe I'm wrong about Hunger Games, it will be the last one. See how Catching Fire does internationally.

Yeah I can see it being moved maybe to Spring 2016. I do love the Mission Impossible films. Ghost Protocol was the second best IMO after the first one.

Never saw the first Mad Max.
I have caught some footage on TV.

The third is the best IMO. Then the Fourth one. The first one is good but somewhat dated and cheesy. The second one is just plain goofy.

Anyways, Disney's 'Jungle's Book' is scheduled for October 9, 2015.
