SUPERMAN 2 Release Date Speculation

If she gets an early March release that gives her 8 weeks to rack up the dough :yay: I think with a ~$150-180 million budget, WW could earn $450-500 million worldwide.

I also think it's harder to get a WW movie right so I'd prefer not to rush it. Flash I think is fairly simple, so I anticipate WB will move forward with him first.

Do you want any ole WW movie, or the one we deserve? :cwink:
Well, I would write and direct it, but some people here thought my ideas were clinging too much to the classic WW origin and not the new one (bastard child of Zeus). :argh:

:p

Of course I won't accept any less than 180 million budget. :jedi

Curious if Show or Jamie have an idea WHEN we will be finding out.

Haven't heard anything concrete just yet, and big vacation week coming.

I don't.

Not about who comes in #1 or #2, the total is all that matters. Pirates 5 will challenge $1 billion world wide. Superman 2 needs AT LEAST two weeks separation from it if MOS2 wants to maximize its potential. Though Superman would trump it domestically, it would likely lose anywhere from 30 to 60 million in possible domestic gross because it, very much like RETURNS missed out on a good 25 to 40 million (in 2006 dollars) due to being so damn close to pirates 2. Worldwide? That is suicide.

I would much rather quit the dick measuring contest and NOT go head to head with other big films, rather I would prefer Supes have a good 2 to 3 weeks of space away from any other major blockbusters so it can breathe on its own and actually have a chance at having good box office legs. Both in the US and overseas, MAN OF STEELs legs are being destroyed competition despite enormous openings. Had WB not been so damn foolish as to open it so close to the global behemoths that MONSTERS U and WWZ, Man of steel would be heading for the 350 domestic / 500 overas / 850m ish total. Now, it is heading for 300/400 type of max.

Forget about bragging rights and just focus on giving Superman SPACE like all of Nolan's Batman films got. Please make the 3rd time the charm. Don't completely cap Superman's box office potential by giving him a crap release date. July 24th is the only even remotely serviceable date I can see on that current schedule.

WB would have to be genuinely ******ed to schedule Superman within a week of pirates.
So it will likely happen.

This.

November 27, 2015 for some Oscar and Academy attention. :o

HA! I know what you mean, :funny:

I'd like that too.

You see, it's the slow knife... the knife that takes its time, the knife that waits years without forgetting, then slips quietly between the bones... that's the knife that cuts deepest.

how about Nov 2014? lol

btw, seem like all the movies jam into 2015 and nothing is out for 2014.

july 2015 is happening. accept it now so that it will be easier. writting a sequel to MOS will be very easy. its writting itself. 30-40 % of Metropolis is destroyed so writting a story for Lex Luthor is easy.you have to be a dumb writter to not writte the best Lex Luthor story. casting LL? enough good actors who are known to the public. you have the world reacting to Superman.....again easy. and you throw inside some comedy from the Daily Planet scenes.

filming? hahah its Snyder and tons of greenscreen. the only real location they need is for some Smallville scenes and for some street walking . everything can be on the set.

june will never happen again. Pacific Rim is out and they dont have batman and harry potter. its july. good night.

I'd like to see it released Christmas 2015 if that's do able but I think Summer 2016 is more likely. Summer 2015 would be too much of a rush.

As far as the script goes I really think there's most likely already a treatment or even a draft done by Goyer and Snyder.

I'm thinking in terms of budget can they not save money now that they already have CG renderings of Cavill flying etc?

If it's July 17 2015 like most people here think, then they'd start filming next year which would be cool.

I think 2016 is more realistic, and the extra time I think would lead to a better film. Would TDK have been as awesome as it was had they rushed it straight after BB?

Part of the decision may also revolve around what WB wants to do next with the rest of the DC universe. If they want to do MOS 2 before the others than they may be less likely to wait till summer 2016. If MOS is in 2015, it allows them to follow up with other DC films in 2016.

I prefer earlier than later.

You wouldn't get a perfect script. People who hate u will continue to hate you.

I get what you're saying but I'm convinced the wheels are already in motion and as I said above it wouldn't shock me if they already had a treatment or first draft of the script done.

To me December 2015 is the best of both worlds. You won't have the risk of being trapped in the summer bloodbath of 2015 and you don't have to wait till the summer of 2016 to push the DC universe forward.

Impossible, if you want a quality movie, and not a cheap, Twilight-style follow-up. Movies need thought. Writers and directors need time to breathe and let their creativity and ideas flow just for a while. After that there comes planning. Which must be well-done.

That's why I'm fine with it not being released sooner than winter 2015 or 2016.

P.S.: What DC Universe? Who cares... I just want to see a great follow-up to Man of Steel!

Why do you guys think that a summer 2015 release is "rushing it" for MOS 2? Goyer's been working on the script since February. WB announced development a few days before the film came out.

And I don't think December 2015 is doable. Disney already has Avengers 2 and POTC 5 on tap with set release dates for summer... I think Episode VII will be a December release.

I think July 17, 2015 will be the date WB picks, although I wouldn't be surprised if WB goes for a Memorial Day release (May 22, 2015). Avengers 2 will be slowing down in its fourth weekend, and MOS 2 could sweep it away with a big 4 day weekend.

2015 isn't rushing per se it's more 2015 is: Avengers 2, Star Wars 7, Jurassic Park 4, POTC 5 and i think there's a bunch i'm even forgetting? Most of those are probably gonna be released in the summer season alone.

We we're complaining about competition and release dates this year for MoS, try 2015?

tons of movies coming out these days. you gotta compete anyway.

can we have a schedule of all the big movies coming out in 2015?

WBs needs to forget about a DC Universe and by that I don't mean not do one but don't let it hold them back or force things into their solo movies just to make them tie-in to the bigger picture. But bottom line I want a MOS sequel.

Nothing beats having a Star Wars movie and a Superman movie in the same year!!

I remember 83 fondly.
Let's do it again in 2015!

While I'm okay with 2015, it's such a jam-packed year that I feel they should just release it in 2016.
I get that Goyer may have been working on the sequel's script months before Steel came out, the studio might be able to make a 2015 date. But, I feel 2016 is more of a safe bet. There is barley any breathing room in 2015. It's going to be a death match between movies each month next year.

Is anything big coming out at Christmas 2015?

 Of course there's never a perfect script. What's with the 'hate you' comment?

There was a solid 3-4 year period between Nolan's Bat films, which I think benefited those films. Just by allowing more time for thoughts/ideas to gestate in Nolan/Goyers minds on where to go.

That said if it's true Goyer has been working on the script already and they start shooting next year it'll be exciting. 2015 is gonna be nuts though.

Star Wars has always been a Summer thing. Plus Disney has confirmed it for Summer 2015.

December 2015 or Summer 2016.

If Star Wars IS released in the Summer, no studio is going to want to go anywhere near that date. Similar to how everyone steered clear of TDKR's date when WB announced it.

IMO, it's just a matter of time until the holiday season that year gets just as packed as the summer is (especially if James Cameron can get an Avatar sequel out by that time).

I think MOS2 has a better chance of success if it gets a 2016 date now so it won't have to compete with huge tentpoles like Avengers, Star Wars, POTC, Jurassic Park, Avatar, Terminator, The Hunger Games etc...

Guys, the thing is though, out of all the 15 big movies or whatever in 2015, none of them are WB properties. WB needs something in 2015 and thats probably going to be MOS2.

If it weren't for that my heart would be set on 2016. I'm thinking that WB will lock the film in for 2015 (even though a year later would be better) because some of their planned tentpoles e.g Pacific Rim sequel, Warcraft, that would likely be released in 2015 are leaving with Legendary. MOS2 is their safe bet. I'm not really sure what else they'll have
