I like JJ. I think he has the potential to be 'amazing'. As much as I liked 'Star Trek' and the rest of his small filmography, he has a lot to prove still. And he will.

The thing with JJ is that, I feel like 'directing' was more of an after-thought for him. I think he has the mindset that he's a producer and writer first, then (dabbling) director.

But he, like Joss, are cut from the same cloth. Both are writers, both became powerful through TV, both geek friendly, etc. Only that Joss has an 'Avengers' under his belt (along with geek friendly cult shows) while JJ has an entertaining but divided 'Star Trek' reboot and genre shows that cater to a broader audience.

It's not to say JJ isn't any less geeky than Joss, but he comes off as more studio-friendly and corporate.

So I think JJ doing Star Wars will help him establish himself even more as a filmmaker. Also, I think this is the best time to get away from Orci/Kurtzman, who I think hinders JJ's progression.

JJ has a great visual style. In fact, I think he's a better visualist than Joss, who tends to come off as 'TVish' with the look of his films, even with 'Much Ado About Nothing'. So here's hoping for the best!

I don't think Avengers: AoU will have a hard a time living up to expectations or being as good as the first one. People forget that the first film is a lot more like First Class in terms of production history than anything else. Whedon was effectively brought on board at short notice to completely re-write the script, of which he had many plot points that were dictated. Then he apparently had a 'gruelingly tight' shooting and editing time to the point where Whedon claimed to be writing/directing/editing everything simultaneously.

Moving into the sequel, he was able to negotiate a contract that presumably gives him infinitely more control over what actually happens in the film (given he has creative input in all of phase 2 and whatnot). Hell, he has around two years to hammer out a script he's happy with before he even steps on a set. Everything was going against the first one being as good as it was , while this one has everything going for it.

Star Wars VII is such an unknown entity at the moment I have no clue what to expect.

Everyone's talking about Avengers, Star Wars and Batman/Superman. While there's a strong possibility they will be the three biggest movies of the year I wouldn't bet any money on it. Finding Dory will probably be really huge also. After all, Finding Nemo grossed almost $900 million worldwide back in 2003.

I hope AOU doesn't have that "tv look" that TA had. If I know one thing, it's that Superman/Batman will be looking like a bonified film. Whedon needs to step up and do the same for the sequel.

I certainly agree. I don't have a single doubt in my mind that SW will not only have that big-budget look, but also have fantastic special effects and sound. I actually would say I have the most faith in that movie out of the big 3 when it comes to that. Snyder's MOS look was great, but it was still drab in some scenes and sometimes darker than I would've wanted. That's something I hope he improves on in WF.

I will not underestimate Mockingjay Part 2 either. It will be the last movie from the Hunger Games franchise. It's going to be HUGE.

While I see the argument I do have to wonder how many people actually want this sequel? Most of the kids that saw the original in theaters in 03 are 10 years older now and you might get some of them and potentially there children but really I can't see it outgrossing either of the other, those three are just too big.

Does anyone here think that the Big Bang Theory should do an episode where the gang decides which movie to see?

Personally I think Sheldon would create some complex algorithmic occasion to determine which movie would be best based on number of special effects, number of movies each actor has starred in, precise location of available seats in the theater related to the lighting, and amount of butter and salt on the popcorn.

Along with that, Penny & The Girls would choose on the basis of how attractive the male leads in all the movies are so that includes a detailed "stat analysis" of: Henry Cavill, new Batman, RDJ, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, etc as well as the "fit" Skywalker/Solo males. This is then coupled with the probability of barechested male scenes and likely duration. Leonard and Howard would reluctantly go along with the girls anyway, while Sheldon either defies and does his own thing or agrees to Amy while poor old Raj just follows the crowd(assuming he doesn't get a love interest).

Although someone should factor in Penny really wishing to see a movie with Henry Cavill in it haha.

It can seem like 2015 Will be crowded, but in reality, after a couple of these giants flop, it won't seem so bad. Like 2012. I was excited for Spidey, Rises, Prometheus, and Avengers. I thought my mind would be blown. In reality I only fully enjoyed Avengers. Even though I like the other three films to varying degrees, they have far too many problems for me as a fan to count them as successful. They were soon out of my head.
