28 Months Later

I'm sort of cynical. I have a feeling it's just fan art.

Still, I would love to see 28 Months Later!

Alex Garland Says 28 Months Later is Being Discussed

The screenwriter has started talking about the project with director Danny Boyle

By Chris Tilly
Alex Garland says there’s a possibility we’ll be getting a third movie in the 28 Days Later/28 Weeks Later series, with serious talks already under-way.

Directed by Danny Boyle and starring Cillian Murphy, the first film – which revolved around a deadly disease wiping out much of the human race – was a huge horror hit, while the sequel was equally well-received, leading to speculation about a third.
So when screenwriter Garland stopped by IGN’s London office to promote directorial debut Ex Machina we asked him if there has been any progress.

“We’ve just started talking about it seriously” he explained. “We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.”
As with 28 Weeks Later, Garland says he’ll more likely executive produce than write the script, and as for a title, it will somewhat predictably involve months…
“It’s more likely to be 28 Months than 28 Years” he revealed. “28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss.”
Ex Machina hits UK screens on January 21, while you can check out the full hour-long Alex Garland interview when the IGN UK podcast goes live this Friday.

Oh wow that's good news! I would definitely still see it!

A "28 Months Later" Is In The Works

By Garth Franklin Tuesday May 12th 2015 03:00PM
Writer/Director Alex Garland, coming off the success of "Ex Machina," is not a major fan of sequels. Yet one of his earliest writing efforts, Danny Boyle's acclaimed zombie drama "28 Days Later," may be getting another one it would seem.
Garland was not involved in the first sequel "28 Weeks Later" and had no interest in a third for several years. However, he now tells The Playlist that a third film is moving forward with producer Andrew McDonald and it came about due to a random idea:
"The rights to '28 Days' were frozen, effectively, because they were shared between Danny [Boyle], [producer] Andrew [McDonald], myself, and Fox. After the second one, none of us really wanted to do another. Fox may or may not have, I don't know.

[Then] about two years ago, Danny [Boyle] started collaborating on the potential to make 'Trainspotting 2,' another sequel. In that conversation, an idea for '28 Months' arrived. I had a funny idea. I had a sort of weird idea that popped into my head. Partly because of a trip I'd taken. I had this thought, and I suggested it to Andrew and Danny, but I also said I don't want to work on it. I don't really want to play a role, and Andrew said, 'Leave it to me.' So he's gone off and is working on it.

It's pretty simple [of a concept]. Don't you think those are, in a way, better? Because there is no momentum now, and you've had an organic, real spark about where I can take this. And it just popped into your head, kind of thing. Rather than, 'Okay, I'm going to make a sequel'."

Garland did not divulge details on what this original concept he came up with is. Considering his strong track record for scripts including "Ex Machina," "Dredd," "Sunshine," "Never Let Me Go" and the video game "Enslaved: Odyssey to the West," it should hopefully not disappoint.

Yaaaaaaay! It's about damn time! Wonder if they'll bring Selena back?

Boyle Open To Directing "28 Months Later"

By Garth Franklin Wednesday October 7th 2015 10:16AM
With his "Steve Jobs" film about to get released, filmmaker Danny Boyle continues doing press about the film. Though he's slated to direct the "Trainspotting" sequel next summer, he was recently asked about another sequel in development - "28 Months Later".
Boyle has previously said several times that he was essentially done with "28 Days Later" franchise, so a third film in the series would likely only involve him as an executive producer - much like with the Juan Carlos Fresnadillo-directed "28 Weeks Later".
In a new interview with The Playlist, he reveals that he could return to the series at the helm after all - but it will depend upon the script:
"I've got no problem [with that]. It's the usual thing: is it's not about whether people think it's a good idea that you're directing. It's whether you respond to the script or not. It's just like on [‘Steve Jobs']. I got the script and I went, 'That was amazing. I hope I can add to that somehow and it be even better than just the experience of reading it.'"
"28 Days Later" creator/screenwriter Alex Garland has already come up with a concept for "28 Months Later" and Boyle confirms development is underway with original producer Andrew Macdonald:
"It's not quite ready to go, but, there's been a bit of work done on that. It's in a process at the moment and I wouldn't have any inhibition about being involved in it at all. It's amazing what has happened to the zombie genre since we made it. There's 'Walking Dead.' I saw this very funny trailer the other day for the 'Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse.' A very funny trailer. It appears to be everywhere."
Boyle also has two period piece projects in the works - "Telemark" about British-trained resistance fighters who sabotaged Hitler's nuclear development program, another is an adaptation of Andrew Miller's debut novel "Ingenious Pain" about an 18th century surgeon incapable of feeling pain. His "127 Hours" and "Slumdog Millionaire" screenwriter Simon Beaufoy is also said to be working on a few projects.

Here is a quaint idea. How bout you get it ready to go instead of talking about it and doing absolutely jack ****. This film should have been out years ago.

Yeah it doesn't sound likely. It sounds like if it ever were to happen it would be done years after the momentum from the last one was gone like what happened with sin city

28 days and weeks are one of the few good horror movies in the last decade. Hopefully 28 months will be good. It would be interesting to see them make a prequel instead of a sequel.

Yes, an entire movie about how the scientists went about creating the virus which was unleashed for the very first time in the first movie.

No wait, that would be boring as hell. This isn't a movie franchise which lends itself to prequels. Jeepers Creepers? Yes. Dracula? Absolutely. But the 28 Days/Weeks movies? Nope, doesn't work.

28 Days Later was a surprising good "zombie" movie.

28 Weeks Later was a crappy sequel. There are so many things about that movie irks me( the imbecillic military e.g) .If it wasn't for me having a thing for stories with an older sister and a a younger brother ,I would've thrown this into the garbage bin.

I hope that if they really makes 28 Months , it won't like 28 Weeks.

They were a little busy making better movies.

I was confused at first but the poster does say it wouldn't lend it self to prequels..which in the case of zombie movies is kinda true, unless we want a movie about zombie monkeys in cages.

It can be done .

Just called the movie 28 Hours Later, the movie could be focussing on when the outbreak was quickly gathering steam and the chaos that ensues, imagine the first few minutes of World War Z.

I would be intrigued to find out more about how the world reacted when the uk became infected. Who came to help and who didn't and how they got as many people as possible out.

Yeah I would watch that. I kind of think 28 months would just be 28 weeks later but with a larger canvas (Europe and possibly Eurasia) instead of the UK. Still, I'm sure a great director like Danny Boyle could make it work even if he didn't do 28 weeks later

That's debatable. Trance wasn't anything to write home about, and Slumdog Millionaire is overrated. I'd much rather have had 28 Months later instead of those two. I would even trade 127 Hours for 28 Months Later.

But even with those films, Danny probably could have squeezed 28 Months Later into his schedule if he really wanted to do it. Danny's productions are tight and quick, and don't require extended post-productions. Unless he is wanting to make 28 Months Later into some big blockbuster type film he should be able to get it done in a year or less.

I suppose that could work. And that could certainly be classified as a prequel. But a movie set before the hippies released the chimps that were infected in the first place? Nope, that's a dumb idea.

Slumdog Millionaire was great, if Doyle's too busy making stuff like that, i don't mind.

They didn't even need to wait for Boyle to direct.

28 Weeks later wasn't directed by Danny Boyle because he was busy working on Sunshine, and 28 Weeks was as good as, if not better than, the first film. If he had just been executive producer of 28 Months Later and gotten a competent director for the film it wouldn't have interfered with his other films.

Yeh sure I think the idea would work if done well. Perhaps it could be done in an Alien kind of way but set in a lab and with a few zombies instead of aliens lurking around , come to think of it that's basically a diet version of the first Resident Evil film...but I think if it was slower and less matrix style fights it could be interesting perhaps *shrug*.

The problem is that Zombie films since the 28 series have been done to death. Where do you take it from here?

True, i actualy thought this film would be Directed by someone else too. But no, 28 Weeks was definitely not better than Days, the main characters were mostly unlikeable and the conclusion to nearly as interesting imao.

Didnt like Weeks all that much, but 28 Days Later has been my favorite movie in the genre since i was 15.

I'm ready for this.

Was it?My impression that it wasn't nearly half as good as 28 Days.

Alex Garland could direct 28 Months later if he wants. People loved Ex Machina
