the 33 1/3 book series from continuum books was recently brought to my attention. it's a series of books, each by a different author, completely dedicated to breaking down, deconstructing, and analyzing a particular album. with over 40 installments in the continuing series, i was quite amazed and impressed by the gamut of albums covered. albums from every genre, of every generation, popular and underground. each book seems to average 150 pages, a rather quick but informative read for record geeks like myself.

a list of the books currently available can be found here

i recently purchased jimi hendrix- electric ladyland, beatles- let it be, bob dylan- highway 61 revisited, and led zeppelin- zeppelin 4. i purchased all 4 of these books of amazon for a total of 15 bucks. i look forward to picking up mc5- kick out the jams and velvet underground-...and nico.
