Rurouni Kenshin's live action series will be back in summer 2020 with two new films for its final chapter.

The two films will be based on the Jinchu arc, the conclusion to the original manga. The first will revolve around the "mystery of the cross-shaped scar" that Kenshin bears, while the second will follow his clash against the series' most terrifying enemy, Enishi.

Based on Watsuki Nobuhiro's manga, the Rurouni Kenshin live action film series began in 2012 and went on to produce two sequels. The new films will mark six years since the release of the last title, Rurouni Kenshin: The Legend Ends.

Series lead Satou Takeru will once again play legendary swordsman Himura Kenshin, with Otomo Keishi also back to direct the films.

The Final will premier on July 3rd, 2020.

The Beginning will premier on August 7th, 2020.

I personally looking forward most to The Beginning...setting at the end of Tokugawa Bakufu era where Kenshin still is a Choshu clan's assassin.

Along with Enishi arc, the last 2 of original manga plot (not including the new release Hokkaido arc), is personally my most favorite Kenshin arc in manga.

I am excited!

So far, the cast that has been confirmed is Kenshin, Kaoru, Sannosuke, Takani Megumi, and Yahiko. (All the same actress/actors from the previous movies)

Still no news regarding who will play the pivotal role of the villain, Yukishiro Enishi along with his sister, Tomoe.

Also, considering The Beginning is set during the historical era of Japan..., besides Saito Hajime, there will be a lot of Japanese real historical figure in this movie (who also appear in the original manga), mostly from Choshu clansmen like Kogoro Katsura, Takasugi Shinsaku, Yamagata Aritomo, etc).

Excited to hear to will play those historical figure.

Between these and the Gintama ones we sure had some great manga movies with fabulous samurai fights. My problem with Gintama movies is that the anime voices are too ingrained in my mind I can't feel right when someone else voices any of the characters.

I'm excited to see news of more Kenshin movies, and am glad to receive news about upcoming comic book movies to be excited for that are not Batman.

I loved Gintama but story wise, that was more a comedy action than what RK has to offer here, so I am more excited for RK.

Yes, there are a lot of comic book movies that aren't Marvel or DC which I am excited for in the coming years.
In manga adaptation particular, it has been hit and miss lately also (I still cannot believe how Full Metal Alchemist and Attack of Titans is among the worst adaptation considering how superior their source material is). Thankfully though, RK is put into more care and more serious in its filmmaking process.

First image of Yukishiro Enishi.
The visual is very much 99% comes from a manga page. I am hyped!

As turn out, Enishi is played by Arata Mackenyu (one of my favorite actor).

I don't know how popular the last "Jinchu" arc is among the outside fans (considering this is the only arc that does not get an anime adaptation).

But for me personally, this is my favorite Kenshin story and Yukishiro Enishi is very good villain. More so than Shishio ever is. He pushed Kenshin both mentally and physically to the limit.

I really hope this one of strongest moment in manga will be featured in the movie. This scene explains why this character and whole story is very personal for Kenshin. Hopefully the movie will captures the moment, right.

Speaking of Kenshin manga, there are new Kenshin sequel story manga sets 5 years after the original manga. (There are already 3 books released here in Japan).

It is drawn and told by Nobuhiro-sensei himself, it is set 5 years after "Jinchu" arc and features new setting and new characters of villains. The sequel is very good read. The villain (the new shadowy old samurai groups far from the Kamakura bakufu) is very cool and terifying also. Very Recommend for any fan who loved Rurouni Kenshin.

Since I have a lot of free time this week, so I think I will share some of it here :)

What makes me happy of this new story is that Nobuhiro-sensei introduced Nagakura Shinpachi, another living survivor of Shinsengumi samurai besides Saitou Hajime. (If anyone here ever knew the history of Shinsengumi samurai groups, Saitou and Nagakura is the only 2 Shinsengumi samurai who survive the Boshin War during Meiji Revolution (1868-1869)).

This is what makes Rurouni Kenshin interesting to me, mixing a fiction story with real life historical figure like Saitou and Nagakura.

This thread is not grabbing the right amount of attention it needs to.

Did they really marry? I remember it being more of a facade in the OVA.

Thanks, Spider-Aziz:)

Hmm..as I remember from the manga (I only seen the OAV once)..I believe Kenshin said it himself.
After the attack of Enishi's group to Kamiya dojo, Kenshin explained who Enishi really is to Kaoru by saying more and less: "he is my brother, or maybe I should say he is the brother of my late wife"

I should check it the manga again to make sure, haha

As with other so many movies before (domestic and foreign), RuroKen 4 and 5 will be unfortunately getting delay, too.

The replace date is Golden Week 2021. Thats the end of April 2021.

I am dissapointed but it is understandable decision though... as even now, many cinema is already starting to reopen, but still many afraid to gather in such crowded closed place.

Since this is the adaptation of the Jinchuu arc, I wonder if they will keep Kaoru's
fake death
plot because that part is the most bonkers WTF thing I've ever read. I just can't take the whole
fake corpse made out of actual corpses
thing seriously. :funny: I kinda hope that they just scrap or change it because I really don't need Kaoru consistently being a damsel in distress in all these live action movies.

I've recently just read the Hokkaido arc as well. Pretty interesting so far and it just makes me so sad that the chances of seeing it in animation is pretty much zero! My poor
Saitou! He better get that arm healed up and be able to fight again.

Yes, Hokkaido arc is unexpectedly is better than I thought.

The re-apperance by former member of Juppon Katana, especially Sojiro and Anji is really makes me happy.

And of course, Nagakura Shinpachi.
Fyi, historically Nagakura is more skilled swordsman than Saitou (in Shinsengumi ranking, Nagakura is 2nd captain and Saitou is 3rd captain). His sword skill only behind Okita Soji (the 1st captain and the strongest Shinsengumi samurai at that time).

The duel between Nagakura and Sojiro is my favorite moment in Hokkaido arc.

The reappearance of the Juppongatana is very Suicide Squad-ish which I loved! :D

I remember assuming that the order of the Shinsengumi squads was skill based but then I read somewhere too that it wasn't? Or maybe it was because that corrupt guy (forgot his name) at the beginning of the Kyoto arc mentioned that the whispers is that Saitou might even be more skilled than Okita? Either way, Shinpachi was a great addition to the story especially since his personality is a complete contrast to Saitou's. :funny:

I must say...Mackenyu (the son of veteran actor, Sonny Chiba) is really good as Enishi!

Takei Emi is prettier than ever ❤

I cannot wait for April 23th!

Kenshin as Assassin "Battosai"

Additional cast revealed:

Katsura Kogoro (play by Takahashi Issei)
Kogoro is non fictional historical figure. A high profile samurai from Choshu-clan who recruit Kenshin to become assasin. He is one of three revolutionist who overthrow and put an end to feudal era of Japan into modern one.

Okita Soji (play by Kamimura Nijiro)
A first captain of Shinsengumi (another historical figure) who is known as the strongest swordsman within Shinsengumi.

Takasugi Shinsaku (play by Masanobu Ando)
Like Kogoro, a non fictional Choshu-clan samurai.
His role in the story (both in manga and anime) is minimal but for those who familiar with Japan's history, Takasugi has large role in recruiting and building an army (known as Ki-Hei Tai), which later become the Japan imperial military army (which historically last until 1945).

I like how Enishi further ups the stakes of his Jinchuu in the live action adaptation by actually following through with a threat he made to Kenshinin the manga, that is to set Tokyo ablaze. It further illustrates how serious he is about destroying everything Kenshin built.
