Wolverine. Psylocke. The Punisher. Hulk. Deadpool. Five of Marvel's deadliest heroes will come to the fore this March for a series unlike any other in 5 RONIN. Bound together by the same fate, yet alone in their existence, they are forced to walk the lonely path of the masterless samurai in the violent and tumultuous world of feudal Japan.

Crafted by writer Peter Milligan and a rotating cast of today's hottest artists, 5 RONIN is a month-long event with covers from some of the biggest names in the industry. To celebrate the release of this series, retailers will have the opportunity to order two different covers per issue, one by superstar artist David Aja and one by another industry favorite.

“What would the ultimate samurai super hero epic look like? The answer is 5 RONIN” explains Editor Sebastian Girner. “When we came up with the idea of taking our biggest heroes and setting them in this time period, writer Peter Milligan and the amazingly talented cast of artists immediately jumped on board. This is easily one of the most beautiful comics you will read this year.”

Each of the 5 seeks revenge, but against whom? And what powerful secret connects these these lone warriors? 5 RONIN will examine the true face of Marvel's most solitary characters against a majestic -- and bloodstained -- backdrop.

Kind of torn. I literally could give less than a **** about any of the character involved. I mean, less than what I care about any dog turd I happen to pass while walking on the local campus, is how much I pretty much have any interest in any of these sorry ****ing excuses for characters.

However, I luff Milligan. And I like the occasional samurai story, and a super hero samurai epic sounds fun.

EDIT: And also, I just realized from re-reading, this is not the mainstream MU and an alternate thing, so that first paragraph may not apply, but I'm leaving it up, because it's true.

Wouldn't Elektra make a better choice than Psylocke?

I like Wolverine and Psylocke. I'm not a fan of the other three. And the concept doesn't interest me all that much. So I'm out.

Sounds interesting. But I agree. Elektra would make more sense. Not sure if the Punisher would work. The Hulk, though? Wouldn't Daredevil be a better choice?

and I'm not sure if I understand this. Is it gonna be a "What if these characters existed in Feudal japan?" or is it "What if these modern characters were sent back in time to Feudal Japan?"

Is it bad that when I first read the title, I thought Bendis had gone Ronin-crazy?

Well, crazier, but the point stands.

They had me at Peter Milligan and samurai epic.

What is with the X-comics and its obsession with Japan? Why not China, India, or someplace else in Asia? Or why not Medieval Europe?

It has Deadpool in it, so I have to buy it. At least it's $2.99.

Sounds cool. Of course I demand that we see Hulk in full samurai regalia.

Psylocke is a better character than Elektra. Betsy's inclusion is the only reason Im now remoetely interested

I have nothing against Psylocke, I just feel what Milligan's going for better suits Elektra. Plus Betsy makes 3 members of the current X-Force. It's out of 616 canon but Elektra would spread things out a bit more.

I think at this point, Psylocke is more marketable. She's currently the top female X-character (2nd only to Emma) and has been getting alot of exposure this past year. How much of a big draw is Elektra these days? From Marvel's perspective, she probaly wont sell as much as Psylocke would

Because the whole idea of the Knight-Errant walking the land was glorified in old Japanese movies like Yojimbo and Sanjuro.

Medieval Europe stories are ok. But stories based in India? Brutal man. You might not know it but India is a land soaked in the blood of COUNTLESS of warriors from all throughout the world. Arabs, Persians, Greeks, Mongols, Rajputs, British...You'd be surprise just how much blood was spilled for India. No way to make that romantic. No Bushido to espouse. No chivalry to talk about.

Feudal Japan was blood-soaked as well. They had centuries of incessant warfare with intervals of peace. Bushido's just a Japanese variant of chivalry, which was overtly romanticized. The Sikhs and Rajputs had their own forms of chivalry as well.

I don't see the point in having another X-story set in Japan. Japan's been done in past titles. Especially with Wolverine's limited series from 1982 and Elektra: The Hand.

Stan Sakai is the master! For anyone not already getting his Usagi Yojimbo I highly recommended it one of the most consistantly good comics ever! The Punisher as a samurai sounds like a great idea! :awesome:

The Hulk is not a deadly character. This project is made of fail. :o

"Deadly" implies that there's a real risk of him killing people. The Hulk doesn't kill people. Ergo, the Hulk is not deadly.

Not on purpose but when he's smashing through buildings and going on a rampage, isnt he a danger to others whether he means too be or not?

Nope. Banner's mind has the same kind of super-math ability as Amadeus Cho's, which subconsciously ensures that no innocents are hurt.
