Maybe they were playing homage to the original "Night that Gwen Stacy Died?" In that comic the title wasn't shown until the very last page.

I'm buying TSSM when it comes out on Blu ray in a couple of weeks so I'll watch a marathon of that over a couple of days along with ASM and that should be enough.
