The over the top fear was kind of forced, Bill Mantlo's Ock story is one of my favorites, but that moment was forced, but it was funny seeing how Ock was affected by Spider-Man's speech "You always say that, I always beat you" after the Ock line "You just got lucky"

I agree, issue 296 does not have that great of a cover, but it was not drawn by Saviuk, its drawn by John Byrne.
