I started the Friday the 13th marathon because why not...

Friday the 13th is one I've seen before. I do like the twist at the end and Mrs. Voorhees is a very memorable character but I'm still not a fan of the live snake getting killed on camera. That was very messed up on the production's part.

I found myself really enjoying Friday the 13th Part 2 as the beginning of what the franchise would come to be with Jason. I did have to laugh at the recap of the first movie in the beginning eating up about a tenth of the movie's runtime.

Part 3 drags on for a bit even with the relatively short runtime (probably didn't need the recap this time around, especially since none of the characters from 2 returned besides Jason). I gotta give it props for introducing the iconic hockey mask and some of the kills are pretty memorable. I'll also never not be amused at the 3D gimmick seen in movies from this time period like this and Jaws 3.

Best Wishes to All

Welp, that was wild. Simultaneously absurd and bleak horror comedy that starts off normal enough and then goes off the rails once it reaches the 30 min mark.

I'm guessing I can count this as a 2025 film since its only been played at US festivals the prior years.

Finally got around to watching this one and it very much lived up to the hype. Juliette Gariepy is fantastic as this cold, true crime obsessed fan that goes down the rabbit hole of the dark web. The courtroom transformation was downright creepy.

Wrapping out my day with the next three installments of the F13 series, the Tommy Jarvis Trilogy.

Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (Did people even believe this back then? :o) is a pretty solid entry. The teens felt more like Jason fodder than the previous entries but was the movie trying to make Crispin Glover into some kind of sex symbol? :grimace: Anyway, the Jarvis family was interesting and tying in the brother of one of the victims in Part 2 built the lore a bit.

I thought Friday the 13th: A New Beginning was a weak entry. Most of the characters in it feel like they're introduced to just pad out the runtime and be killed after a scene or two. Obviously that's the point of slasher flicks but here it was a little too random. Like, "here's Reggie's brother and his girlfriend in the middle of the movie for no reason other than to get killed in the next scene!" And the reveal that the killer wasn't even Jason at the end made me think that this movie was a waste of time that shouldn't have even happened and they should have just went from IV to...

Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives was a bounce back. Bringing it to a fully functioning Crystal Lake camp was needed after Part V. I also got a kick out of Tony Goldwyn as the typical macho dude in these movies who stands up to the masked killer as if death isn't staring them in the face. I also had a feeling I was going to like this when they did a Bond gunbarrel parody with Jason at the beginning.

You didn't like Tommy becoming the new Jason and then not? :o

I was skeptical about this one but Frewaka definitely put in a mood to check out more dark fairy tale based films and while this one isn't really as focused on the horror as much as something like Frewaka I did end up enjoying it quite a bit. The acting and direction is really strong across the board and I loved the sound design in this and the whole nature theme. I didn't really understand the ending though which is probably why this has such low ratings on IMDB but its far from a bad film IMO.

Now this was a cool little shark flick and one of the very few that I've seen where what you see on the poster is exactly what you get in the film. The great white in this film is pretty terrifying and I like the fact that they used practical effects as much as they could.

It really makes the attack scenes in this feel a lot more visceral and it's definitely a film that doesn't shy away from the gore either.

I'm a sucker for these murder mystery flicks and this one was pretty enjoyable but also kind of forgettable. Kiera Knightly does what she can with this script and I liked the cast enough overall but most of them aren't even given much to do which is a shame.

Bite-Sized Review: Lots of flicks feel like Babadook rip offs. This one at least works.

Bite-Sized Review: The COVID horror flick. Shame Savage's follow up was so bad.

I was shocked by how short Woman in Cabin 10 is. Felt so lazy. Like a book report you wrote on the way to school.
