Woof what a way to end a franchise. As someone who's a big fan of the first film and really enjoyed the last film this was a BIG disappointment on so many levels and the first mistake IMO was them removing the found footage format.

The scares are hit and miss and it also doesn't help that the performances are all over the pace and the pacing is just bad for the most part especially when this movie stops to have dramatic scenes with people just endlessly talking.

Im still looking forward to seeing what Cognetti does next but I really hope he is done with this franchise and really takes the time to work on his traditional filmmaking skills.

Not much to say about this one except if your a fan of Olga Kurylenko it's definitely worth watching for her performance. I always thought she was a pretty underrated actress that got done dirty in Hollywood and I like the fact that she is picking these kinds of projects to show more of her acting talent.

The movie itself is just alright though but the premise is interesting and it has a few creepy well done scenes here and there.

This was an awesome sequel that's bigger, darker and far more twisted than the original film and if you enjoyed Weapons I would definitely recommend checking it out.

8/10

Anyways, this year was a great 61 Nights of Halloween for me and hopefully all you had a really fun and safe Halloween as well.

"I guess...you didn't make it."

Perfect viewing for the special night. The wraparound story in this one is such a delight, mainly thanks to Clarence Williams III and his crazy eyes.

And that marks the end of another spooky season, see ya next year!

Really hoped to get to see more of the cursed "oddities" in action than what we ultimately got, but nonetheless this is an excellent atmospheric horror that lived up to the hype. The incredible sound design, strong performances, and an excellent monster kept me content with the story it chose to tell, even if the scope was smaller than I'd hoped for. And the final payoff is perfect.

26. Frankenstein (2025)
frankenstein-2025.gif

Glad to get to see this in theaters - I'm not as high on it as some; despite its length, the focal choices GDT makes early on leaves the final act of the film, where most of the core character arcs take place, feel underdeveloped, especially for Goth's Elizabeth. And the broader directorial vision just never felt as grand as the world being created on screen. That said, the world IS indeed grand, and made for the big screen. Masterful crafts work and overall strong performances. I'm glad Netflix seems to be expanding its theatrical release.

27. Hell House LLC Origins: The Carmichael Manor (2023)
e631a620059f4373703178c2769afe7bf7d9b90e.gifv

It's just so funny that this "Origins" film both isn't a prequel and isn't even giving much backstory to the hotel but rather those freaking clowns. But I really can't complain, because it's easily the best film in the series outside of the original. The scares are effective and the actors are strong - Destiny Leilani Brown as Rebecca is one of my favorite found footage performances. And all that leads up to finally getting payoff to all those "moving just off screen" jump scares, and its 100% nightmare fuel.

28. Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)
https%3A%2F%2Fsubstack-post-media.s3.amazonaws.com%2Fpublic%2Fimages%2F4ac93204-c72d-4ffe-ad32-ba8ef68c94f3_500x206.gif

Mara and Gallner are great leads and JEH does his best stepping into massive shoes, but that's the best I can say about this. They seem so reluctant to retread the classic that they skip over all development and straight into the action. The result, though, is that we never get a chance to invest in what's happening and by the time the credits roll we're left asking - "Who Cares?"

In the end, got pretty busy the last few weeks and didn't quite make it to 31 (and the Elm Street remake was a horrible way to accidentally end the marathon) but all in all a great Spooky Season! Hope y'all had a wonderful time as well!
