616 venom or ultimate?

Ultimate Venom was a story that had a huge amount of potential, and the setup and first half or so of it was an amazing new approach to the symbiote saga --- but as it went on I think the third act of it just kind of fell flat.

Ultimate Eddie Brock, while very similar in character to the 616 version, never seemed to have any real sense of motivation. While 616 Brock's motivation is admittedly somewhat contrived and even has had to be reworked several times to make more sense, its still always had this sense of intensity, that the Ultimate version just lacked. It didn't help that the actual Venom character was basically a silent, human devouring cypher, that lacked the menace of his 616 counterpart (At least in the early appearances.... yes, I'm pretending Lethal Protecter didn't exist ).

I still liked the storyarc in Ultimate a lot, but I think the animated series approach that the movie seems to be going for works far better as a much more complete, developed storyline.

Ultimate Venom's crap.........he's peters childhood best friend for god's sake and a mindless oaf like Hulk. You choose that over the smart and funny 616 Venom. Venom always stood out as a villain to me cause not only did he hate Spider-Man but Eddie Brock was truely underneath it all a good guy.

Villain's usually have evil plots and spider-man just soiled them, but venom is out for one thing Spider-man, and whats so good about him is unlike other villain's he would stop beating up Spider-Man to save a drowning baby. Stuff like that was never done by a villain.

Both stories have their flaws but 616 is superior in both looks and story. Ultimate is nice, don't get me wrong, but Bendis has a bad habit of making Hulk clones out of villains.

Well In SM2 the did introduce JJJ's son who was the piolet of the ship which did bring the symbiont to earth in the cartoon, and since they showed the church scene and Eddie Brock Being a RIVAL PHOTOGRAPHER which are key parts in 616 it is probably going to be 616... and please excuse my rambling

Kudos to those on the first page who tried to defend their ultimate preference. And whilst I still respect everyones opinion, as stated in my orignal reply to this topic. 616 Baby, i find the 616 Venom to be a far better choice. I just find the 616's Brock to be a better character. And yes i still find the ultimate magical cancer suit to be craptastic.
