8.04 - Instinct - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

As much as I love the show, SV has way too much filler. The Jimmy Olsen, Secret Agent episode is just one example of that. Honestly, there are at least 5 episodes a season that are completely unnecessary to the season.

Yeah and it looks like toxic will be one too. Plus its written by the same peroson that wrote sleeper.

It's the show's greatest flaw and the reason it has so many detractors. And it's not that a show can't have filler. With Smallville being largely episodic with serialized arcs interwoven within, you're going to have a few detours along the way. But there's no excuse for some of those detours being so unspeakably awful.

Take Smallville's CW cousin Supernatural for example. That's a show built in a similar image: episodic, with serialized arcs. But when Supernatural dips into filler territory, it usually succeeds because it's still well written filler and they clearly put the same kind of effort into those filler episodes as they do their major sweeps events.

I don't want Smallville to change what it is. I don't want it to be darker or edgier because that's oh so hip. That completely goes against what made the show successful in the first place and what made me fall in love with it. All I want is consistency.

The Cw's Official Description for "Instinct"

DC COMICS CHARACTER MAXIMA SETS HER SIGHTS ON CLARK — Tess (Cassidy Freeman) and her team perform tests on Clark’s (Tom Welling) crystal that she had retrieved from the arctic, causing it to send a beam of light into the universe. This triggers the arrival of Maxima (guest star Charlotte Sullivan), a queen from the planet Almerac, who is searching for her soulmate, who she believes sent the signal. Unfortunately, Maxima’s power is too great for mortal men and her kiss kills them. The seductive Maxima arrives in Metropolis and begins her search, starting with Jimmy (Aaron Ashmore).

Allison Mack and Erica Durance also star. James Conway directed the episode written by Turi Meyer and Al Septien (#3T7454)

Airs October 9 on The CW .

It sounds fun, hope they don't do Maxima too campy.

That green outfit makes her looks a little too similar to Poison Ivy

Yes she did look a bit hotter with darker hair but i am glad they actually went to the comics/cartoon red hair look for her.

Yea hopefully she acts well as maxima and i cant wait to see how she gets to earth will it be by ship/portal and will she stay or go back to her planet at end of episode.

that maxima girl is not hot. the cartoon version was hotter than that girl.

The actress is cute, but I don't know if she looks like I would picture Maxima.

We'll see though, these pictures don't always give us an acurate idea of how they'll do in the role.
