Damn rough stuff in that part of the world recently. Mother nature in the pacific is on a damn warpath!

A 6.0 quake has hit NEAR THE EAST COAST OF HONSHU, JAPAN

A 5.6 followed it within the last 10 minutes.

Tremors continue...

A guy in my class has family in Japan. He's been trying to call for a while now. No idea if he got through, I doubt he will though. I bet it's a pain in the ass to make a call there right now.

But good god, thoughts out to the Japanese, that wave plowing through those fields and communities was insane.

Why is this thread in the Politics forum? Anyway, I saw the news last night and I was shocked and sadden by the horrid images of giant tsunami caused by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake that hit Japan. The entire city got flooded, and houses and cars thrashed about as if they were toys. I hope the people in Japan will be able to recover from this horrible event quickly.

Can a mod merge this with the one in the proper community thread.

Didn't realize it was supposed to be posted over there.

Calling won't help, cell phone service is EXTREMELY spotty. My friend in Tokyo is posting updates on Facebook, so he should try email.

My friend is okay, there's not much structural damage in Tokyo, but the trains are down and she lives 30 miles from home so it would take her 9.5 hours to walk back. :oldrazz: She and several coworkers are staying put at work (they have electricity and water, although she left her phone charger at home), they went to the store and got beer ( :funny: ), ramen, and snacks to wait out the aftershocks.

Even the aftershocks are huge! I live in SoCal and I don't blink at anything around 4.0, but I've never ever experienced a 6.0 earthquake and I've lived here for almost 10 years! And to have one every half hour or so? :wow:

The tsunami footage is terrifying. It looks like entire neighborhoods (on fire) are being swept away. And those cars, I can't imagine the terror of the passengers inside. :csad: Mother Nature once again shows us who's really boss. Take care of each other, fellow human beings, because we're all that we have.

I've always been amazing by the global impact of Tsunamis. I mean, Hawaii and California might get a little damage from it. The weather guy from CNN said Crescent City might get a lot.

Apparently Vancouver might get a little. Insanity

Wow this is just wow...but Japan will rebuild times like this I wish we had giant robots:csad:

Tsunamis sometimes weaken in height if they have to go far, but they don't stop until they hit something. :csad: Hawaii hasn't gotten anything bad, so I don't think California will either. I think they're telling people who live 5-6 blocks from the beach to head up to higher ground anyway to be safe...
