80's Sci Fi/Action Movies Appreciation Thread

I'm curious is the new DVD's features worth the purchase? Since I already own the trilogy pack. I really do want more special features.

But I love the first one, and I really enjoy the second one, but I hate the third one. Burke could never really get the movements right, and his arm placements annoyed me for some reason. He looked like he had a body and arm casts on. Plus the story was lame, and the direction was horrible.

From what I've heard it's the same special features, but I guess you can compare that on Amazon.

I'm think I'm gunna watch it right now!

Well, after watching the rest of Lost Season 3..

Robocop was a great flick Robocop 2 I liked 3 is garbage.

I highly recomend the comic version of Frank Millers Robocop 2. And after reading it go back and watch 2 and 3 to compae....it's fun:)

that emile character, the actor who was also in ER, everytime you see the guy on screen in any role outside of robocop, you can't help but shout out "we killed you" and "help me, eeeerhh", his two most famous lines.

LOL

that guy has one of the most sick death scenes ever, covered in acid and then having his head smashed off by the car! disgusting!

I liked Robocop 2, and while I'm sorry that Frank Miller feels like he was screwed over on the whole thing, I personally thought it was fun. Granted, it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the original's depictions of violence, or hit on the satire and social commentary of the original. You still had the big corporation, but that was really it. There wasn't that cutthroat indifference and bottom-lining like in the first film. There's nothing that tops the scene in the first film, where the guy had his whole chest cavity obliterated during the ED-209 presentation, and all Jones can say is, "I'm sure it's just a glitch."

I do have a soft spot for Robocop: The Series, though.

Then we've got our travesties, like Robocop: Alpha Command! Aside from the nod to the original film screenwriters, naming two characters Miner and Neumier, this cartoon seemed to be going out of its way to be as silly and stupid as possible! Right down the the theme song:

"ROBOCOP!!
ROBOCOP!!
RO-BO-COP!!

(Oh yeah!)"

i went to comic book store looking for robocop and couldnt find anything

For those who don't know about this site, you can fill your heart's Robo Desires here:

www.robocoparchive.com

I'm a member of that site as well, and it's got everything you could ever need on the franchise (Films/TV Series/Prime Directives/Comics/Video Games/Cartoons/Merchandising) It's also got a message board of its own specifically for the Robocop films.

The site even includes the back story behind Robocop creators Ed Neumier and Michael Miner's original idea for "Robocop 2" before Orion went to Frank Miller.

definately worth checking out if you're a Robo fan ;)

Thanks for the link.

Robocop is another great late eighties movie its the film Judge Dredd should have been.

Funny you should say that, as the designer of the suit, Rob Bottin, actually did have influences from Judge Dredd's costume, in the early designs, mainly the helmet.

Along with T2 Robocop is the movie I watched over and over again as a kid. I still am freakin crazy about it. The cast is perfect the writing is top notch and the SFX still hold up pretty and it has one of the best scores ever...ever! well in my opinion anyway. It's in my top five best movies ever. My sis brought the special edition DVD and since we litterly live across from each other I can watch it anytime I want. I love the movie and have probably seen it atleast a 100 times and was estatic to watch special features. As for the other two movies...I liked Caine but Robocop 2 still sucked, the 3rd one is an abortion of cinema. The cartoon also blew and I'm quite sure the other liveaction stuff sucked too.

Judge Dredd is a bad movie but I still love it and watch it. It's so bad it's good.

Robocop 1 and 2 were great but the third one was crap. I hated how they made him into a father figure. The cartoon was terrible.

I love the first one, hate the second and i like the third lol, mostly for nostalgic reasons. The first one scared me to death in some places when i was a kid.

Anyone remember the old marvel cartoon of it? It was awesome:)

Let's not forget the other one as well,

"I Like it!"

Robocop is a great example of how recent sci-fi movies haven't been very good. Good sci-fi is about things, not just flashy cgi and futuristic weapons. Films like Robocop, Blade Runner, and Aliens made statements about society. The Chronicles of Riddick says nothing.

Robocop is a sci-fi masterpiece.

The sequels may suck, but they do not hurt the original at all.

I can't tell you how excited I was as a kid to actually watch this for the first time. All the footage I saw of it on tv were jaw dropping.

I always loved the Robo movies, I have the Criterion, and the Trilogy set, and as soon as i can find it the 2 disc SE anniversary. the one thing i thought was cool as hell in the movies was gun holder inside the leg. the first time i saw it open up and having holster the gun and have it close up i was like :wow: .

Here are some good Robo gifs showing off this way cool feature

"Let the woman go, you are under arrest."
