80's Sci Fi/Action Movies Appreciation Thread

i posted videos from teh director and actor. they are talking about the movie. everything.

i alos think it would NOT work today. it would be a PG-13 action movie.

The first two are great. The other two are bleh. I don't mind AVP all that much. The 9 disc boxset is awasome though. And I just got Alien for the PSP:csad:

P.S: Jaws may be like Alien, but it ain't scary:csad:

A lot of movies about the future seem to have more and more merit today than ever before, really.

It's never the cool stuff though. :(

I think I'd rather see a sequel as opposed to a remake. In the event they feel like they need to explain his backstory again, that can easily be done throughout the story either with dialog or flashbacks.

What's with all the "_____ Appreciation Threads" lately?:csad:

I kinda liked T3 for what it was. I've seen worst{Alien 3}.

Which is exactly why I hate Alien 3--does the same thing.

I really like the first two Terminator movies--especially the first one, since I have a weakness for Michael Biehn. I missed him in T2, but then saw one of the newer cuts and all was well.

I like how raw the first Terminator is. Not in terms of gore, per se, but in the level of direct brutality. The first Sarah Connors get their door kicked in and Arnold practically empties an entire clip into their quickly cooling body. Hicks...I mean, Reese bludgeons the T-101 with a pipe right to the head and throws pipe bombs at him. The Terminator itself is crushed to death. The movie has a really solid feel to it, if that makes sense. It's not like T2 (which was great, don't get me wrong), which has more of a fluid feel to it, with the T-1000's stabbings and the nitrogen/lava thing. T1 feels more like an improvised two-person war, whereas T2 comes across more as a soldier (Arnie) versus an assassin (Robert).

Does that make sense? It's a little late, so apologies for any lapses in thought.

Yeah it makes sense. I have a weakness for Michael Biehn as well. I love his performance in The Terminator.

I like how he freaks out in the police HQ. "He will find her! That's what he does! That's ALL he does! He'll find her, and then he'll rip her f**king heart out!"

Ah, Biehn...:D

Thats one of the best scenes in the whole film. That scene gets across how serious a Terminator really is.

I also like

"You Listen! And understand. That terminator is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead. "

Cameron really works well with Biehn. I think Hicks and Reese are two of my favorite characters and he was great The Abyss and Tombstone.

Never seen 3, but I'm probably one of the few here who didn't care for Aliens.

They should be making Alien 5 instead of AVP2. Predator sucks{runs out before he can get bashed}.

This describes my feelings exactly.

Great movie. Okay sequel. ****ty spin-off.

The Predator from the first movie is definitely one of the most awesome monster designs in cinema history. So far no other Predator has looked as realistic as him. The Predator in the 2nd Movie often looked like same kind of puppet with his big eyes in all the close ups. The Predators in Avp were so obviously fake that it wasn't funny.

Here's hope that the Strause Brothers will pull off another great realistic Predator design.

Ohhhh, it hurts to watch ..... Cameron, with a huge budget and his high quality creative ideas would make the Alien universe epic again.

I have said it before and will say it again .... EVERYTHING after Alien 3 is a farce ... the creature has been thrust into the light made weaker and is now a cartoon version of the original creation.

Damn shame.

Thank you James Cameron for suggesting Stan put mandables on it :D

I love this scene. It introduces the Predator's awesome net weapon, and i also love it for that hot, nude Latina woman screwing!:woot: '

What's with all the "_____ Appreciation Threads" lately?

I made one for Robocop
someone mentioned Aliens

I made one for Alien
someone mentioned doing one for other sci fi films

I made 4 four and no more will be made.

They're havens to talk about specific films in a general film forum ... they serve a good purpose.

The thing I think people don't approve of for Predator 2 is the fact that the first film is so simple in its story...

Rescue team of soldiers goes out on a mission, only to get screwed over and by coincedence they become the targets of the Predator.

With Predator 2 you've got this drug war going on, and all these other characters, and the government operation run by *giggle* Gary Busey*giggle* to capture and study the Predator...

It all became a bit much as opposed to the original film.

If not for the biggest blow to R3, which was killing off Lewis, I'd agree.

Maybe R4 would finally see that Robo-Lewis that was speculated for R2.

Nothing wrong with that, Symbiotic.

I really love the idea of the "Concrete Jungle" which was a nice way to go after the first film.

I like P1 and P2 equally, but for different reason.

P1 i like for it's simplicity. We'd never seen anything like what happens in the movie in any other movie. Also the Predator remains mysterious. All we know about him is that he arrived on a ship (seen at the beginning), and that he hunts only in the hottest years.

P2 just has that classic 80's action feel to it that i miss and love. There's plenty of profanity, plenty of violence, and we get once again see the Predator hunting during a heatwave. Which let you know the Predators must come from a hot planet. We also learn a little more about the Predator; he likes to eat beef! :D And by the ritual wall on the ship at the end, they've been hunting other Alien species, and man for centuries........

AVP having The Predators hunt in a cold climate comletely contradicts the Predators naural habits. There are other isolated parts of the world that are hot, that would have been more suited for a Predator ritual. Having it in Antartica was one of many AVP ****s ups that i hated.

If a 3 is made. I would love to see them Hunt on another Alien world. It would be a great opportunity for Fox to launch another Alien-type franchise by having the Predators hunt another new Alien specie.

Far as the predators look from P2 to AvP,sorry I didnt really mind the looks too much. The closed mouth pic ya,it did look bad,but overall they weren't that bad. I just think the Pred from avp was a lighter toned and it made it look different. Ya cant have the exact same predator,as its a society of predators and they all look different. Kindof like RL,not everyone is the same, some ppl are good looking and some are ugly..

I still prefer P1 over P2 anyday of the week. Predator 1 just has the aura about it,was just plain good ol' movie. P2 I had issues with, just had some bad,bad charisma. Bad acting(ya,Glover was a bad choice) the whole cast. The premice was okay, the drug war,but it was kindof silly at times. Shame is putting him in a city should of been outstanding, plenty of stuff to do.. It looked like they didnt have much of a budget to work with, and really didnt utilize much of LA. Could of had pred's take out a local gang, just for ****s and giggles. Just had potential but they kindof blew it imo...P2 should of had a dark evil tone to it..

I do hope they make a P3 and I hope they can recapture P1's aura. To me P3 if ever done should be made like 'Aliens' on a planet other than earth. Pit predator against the 'marines' and other 'hostiles' in a future type setting. I haven't heard any grumblings of them doin a P3,but maybe if AVP2 does well it will get going???

when you make a trilogy to a time traveling saga.... plotholes are inevitable.

move on...
