Which is exactly why I hate Alien 3--does the same thing.
I really like the first two Terminator movies--especially the first one, since I have a weakness for Michael Biehn. I missed him in T2, but then saw one of the newer cuts and all was well.
I like how raw the first Terminator is. Not in terms of gore, per se, but in the level of direct brutality. The first Sarah Connors get their door kicked in and Arnold practically empties an entire clip into their quickly cooling body. Hicks...I mean, Reese bludgeons the T-101 with a pipe right to the head and throws pipe bombs at him. The Terminator itself is crushed to death. The movie has a really solid feel to it, if that makes sense. It's not like T2 (which was great, don't get me wrong), which has more of a fluid feel to it, with the T-1000's stabbings and the nitrogen/lava thing. T1 feels more like an improvised two-person war, whereas T2 comes across more as a soldier (Arnie) versus an assassin (Robert).
Does that make sense? It's a little late, so apologies for any lapses in thought.
