9 year old girl beats up adult male attacker

Whirlysplat said:
It's "an art distilled to a principle", even so a 9yr old girl should not really be able to do much to an adult male of normal build. Thats why it's weird.

Which is why the 9 year old is either huge for her age, or this story is fake. Although it's not totally impossible.

Great.

Judo actually taches stuff that 'can' help keep a person off of you, even if they are so much bigger than you.

Good for the girl

Oh yeah, don't think I mean all the time, especially at that age, it usually won't happen and she's really, really lucky probably more than anything else. But judo does help and give you a bit more chance.

But I really believe a teenage girl can really stand a great chance if she's properly trained.

Well I actually have a black belt in Taekwondo and have trained in a number of other martial arts including Judo. I truly believe size plays a huge part in any confrontation, that's why they have weight divisions. Girls are best running away imo, in fact everyone is - It's the first advice I'd give a self defense class, that and make lots of noise.

No doubt, I'm also near a black belt in jujutsu and will soon get graded to that or higher (through personal training).

Running (leaving) the situation is the first thing to do if possible.

But as for weight divisions, yes, heavier people are often harder to handle, but not all the time. It really depends on how great they are at combat. Smaller people than myself have often given me a tougher time on the mat than people alot bigger than me.

Look at the NHB fighting tournaments. Often, there is no weight division and the smaller guy often wins.

Again, the whole point I'm trying to make is self-defence, like judo, can give you a better chance. You're not going to be the Bruce Lee or Steven Seagal, but you will have a much greater hope of surviving/self-defending oneself with martial arts training when you have no choice but to get physical.

They increase your chances, but I spend most of my time in training (since I had a double arthroscopy on my knees from playing rugby) concentrating on weights and boxing training. We all know have effective an upper cut or right cross is with weight behind it. I am about 17 and a half stone. I still say avoidance is the best tactic and no little girl no matter how well trained shoould be able to handle an adult and at 9 I don't see you can have trained long.

In the UK that's not an option really.

That stinks, a gun has saved me once and my friend twice.

Depends on the situation for the little girl, though.

Think this (which would often be the case):

She's in her house in her bedroom and a guy breaks in. He goes after her. She could, with self-defence training, hold her attacker off long enough to cause him to flee (since he's getting nowhere fast enough and her screams {which she might manage to do} are probably being heard by her parents). The guy's gonna realize he's gotta leave.

The same could be true in a public park, for example. If the little girl could fight off the adult long enough to scream and also make it a little tougher and longer than her attacker thought, he's probably gonna leave and the girl's fine.

Now, one-on-one with nobody around or if he manages to do something violent at the start (which, really, he probably could if he tried), then the girl really doesn't stand a chance.

But, often, the little kids (not just girls) could stand chances with some good training. And, as the example of the 9 year-old in this thread suggests, it is possible.

How strong do you think a nine year old girl is?

I think she would have trouble lifting a light bag of groceries if she is average build for age.

An adult is often very nervous when they do these sick things, but they do it because they are sick.

Being nervous makes you usually weaker and slower at reacting. This gives the intended victim a better chance. It gives them chances on screaming for help, etc.... yes, even a 9 year old.

Believe me, really, no 12 year old kid should really stand a chance against an adult. But because of various circumstances, they can on an occasion.

Actually, I'm going to start taking Judo this week and it's meant for those of smaller stature. Judo is designed to use your attackers momentum against them for a throw and then use submission holds or chokes and strangulations to subdue them. The story is a little far fetched, but with two years or so of Judo in her its kind of plausible.

I like the Vampire Slayer theory better. :o

I tend to think being very lucky is the major factor. A nine year old girl should not be able to straighten a mans arm at all, ever let alone support his weight which most throws require even using someone elses momentum.

Did she actually do that?

I'm referring more to yelling, kicking a bit, not stuff like you said (submissions).
